Love that you are doing floss tube!! I am your age and I do all the things for the pure enjoyment!! I recently returned and fell down the rabbit hole hard for cross stitch. I still quilt, wool applique, and embroidery ,etc. Life is totally awesome and meant to be enjoyed and laughter keeps me young.

The beauty of being over 60 is we can do what we want and there are no rules. To me counting stitches would take the fun out of the stitching. I just got back into it a year ago and am enjoying it. I quilt, sew clothing and spin yarn to knit so my retirement is full to the brim with fun things to one. One of my favourite things to do while I’m being creative is watching you on You Tube on both your channels.

Thank you for another great video. I also did cross stitch in the 1980’s and just went back recently. There is so much more variety in patterns, threads and fabrics that I am loving it. I agree with you about the stitch counting and homework. All that record keeping would be overwhelming to me and take away from my stitching time. I work on whatever project I want for as long as I want. What’s so wonderful is that everyone can do what works for them. A caring, supportive community.

Hi Anna, Love your flosstube and Quilt Roadies KZitem channel. Like you I'm a quilter first ( fabric stash that spans almost 40 yrs.) but just recently found the Flosstube Community. I use to do some counted cross-stitch in the 80's too and then found quilting was my real love. I am so taken with the samplers and the history behind the little girls that stitched these samplers. I watch KZitem videos now instead of any television. I've bought a few cross-stitch charts and some linen but hesitate to buy too much because I have so much fabric to use and not leave behind for my children to deal with. Went to the AQS Quilt Show in Grand Rapids, Michigan ( I live 40 minutes from GR. ) this last week and meet Stacy West with Buttermilk Basin. Talked to her and told her I knew her from watching your videos with her and she took a picture of us and said she was sending it to you and letting you know you're stealing her thunder. She's such a lovely person. Keep up with the videos< I love watching them all.

Thx for the "Flatter" recommendation. I recently had a sewing project I couldn't get the ceases out of even with the iron. I'll give that a try. And the reason a lot of people start in the center is probably because that's what is recommended in a lot of kits. It's supposedly easier to check it against the grid if you start in the center. But I have now taken to starting in one corner and working out, thus handling each area less, but that's just my M.O. To each his own when it comes to cross stitch! Love your videos. I am enjoying them!

I've watched both videos and I Love your channel! :-) I'm with you on not wanting homework and counting stitches. That would take the fun/pleasure out of it. Too much pressure. I already walked away for a couple years due to life stress and because I was only working on large projects and so I lost incentive to pull them out to work on. Now I work in some short easy projects so that I can have the thrill of a finish every once in a while in the midst of the big long-term projects. Just discovered floss-tube too and that is inspiring, seeing all the beautiful things everyone else is working on. My local LNS is a tiny bit of cross stitch (that is all at least 10 years old including the store models) amongst a large store focused on beads and jewelry making. It's actually depressing and they never have what I need or want, so I never go there. My ideas and encouragement now come from on-line and I love your sense of humor! :-)

I also do not usually start my cross stitch in the middle. I start in the upper right hand part of the fabric. I've done that now for 50 years and it works well for me. Also, I never count how many stitches I make in a day, or a week , or whenever. That would drive me crazy! Don't worry how long your videos get. I don't even know how to count the stitches I've done. I just know about blocks of ten on patterns. I think "when" I win the lottery, I am going to open a cross stitch store big enough for group stitching. I think you're great.

It is not about the counting but the enjoying! I love Jeanette Douglass also. I have the "Letters from Mom" . Of course I haven't done them yet but will maybe start them in the new year. There is no cross stitch store here but there is a wonderful store around 3 hours from me. It is called "Sassy Jacks" in Weaverville, NC. You should look up there website and check them out. They have the most beautiful antique samplers hanging on there walls. These samplers have been reproduced and we can stitch them. I stitch mostly in the evening after dinner. There are to many things to do to stitch during the day. The recliner and LED light with magnifier is my place of stitching. "Kit and Bixby" is really cute!

I never count stitches either! I also almost always start in the upper left corner. The only reason I know of to start in the center is to center the piece (especially helpful for finishing if the margins are tight).

The Stitchers that count Stitchers are usually involved in programs that are part of groups with defined weekly homework. Most of us do not do that but if it is something they enjoy.
