Jackie, I'm from Londonderry in Northern Ireland and I know that the Power family, of which there are many branches were a very wealthy, well connected family in the 18th and 19th century. I feel certain that you are right that Bridget was not from a lower class family. From the first time I saw this sampler, I thought that she must be connected to the wealthy Powers. I love your Flosstube and look forward to each one ❤

Thank you so much for sharing this information!!! It’s the first time anyone has suggested that maybe, just maybe, Bridget could have been from a family of means. Do you have any first names to go with the surname of Power for me to look into? Or any references to recommend?
@sharonbruce6639
2 ай бұрын
@ComfortStitchingJackie I googled Power family Ireland and it suggests they were of Norman descent....the name was originally Le Poer, which meant poor but it states they were by no means poor! They seem to have be centred around County Wicklow and County Waterford but no doubt members may have left Ireland to live in the States and Canada. I don't have any names but I will check with my brother who, as well as being a priest, is also an Irish history fanatic! I'll get back to you with any information I obtain 🥰

@@ComfortStitchingJackie I have not read all the comments about Bridget but I am as intrigued about her history as you. One fact I’m interested in is where the antique sampler was found and made its way to Gigi R to be reproduced. Is that information in the chart pak? I was very interested in your discussion. I’m aware that this design was also released by another designer which also intrigues me. And your strawberry!

Please don’t ever apologize for taking us along on your history journeys. For me, this is the reason I stitch. The connection to a work someone else has created, especially those from a different time or place, provides a special meaning. I stitch so this form of history is preserved.

Irish resident here! A small point that's actually a very important point - a lot of folks in the republic don't use the word famine when relating to that period of Irish history. They'll say "the genocide", and rightfully so, if you look into the history of what happened both leading up to and during the period of the 1830s-50s. While it's true that there was a natural blight, tenant farmers were forced to continue to export large amounts of crop to Britain, a crop that had been forced on them to be their only food source, or else lose their homes. Whatever the circumstances of the landlords, they didn't starve to death like the million farmers who did. I felt it important to mention for anyone reading, who might now be interested in Irish history. Wonderful stitching as always!

Lots of tomatoes with a Strawberry tucked in here & there. Takes me back to my Mom's red velvet tomato pincushion that sat perched on her sewing table. For the past 9 months I've been doing battle with a particularly aggressive form of breast cancer (steroid related insomnia is enabling me to keep up with my floss tube - every cloud as they say..). Love the strawberry kit!! Your needle book and acorn are wonderful, lucky ladies who received them!! Thanks for sharing all the special things you use when stitching, a lot similar to what I use! I fold my pattern down to where I am stitching, the I use a magnet on the fabric so it is right there and I can see it, then mark where I have been! Thanks for what you share!

Thank you Jackie for sharing your stitching knowledge and your useful items. My first thought when I saw your beautiful project for the first time weeks ago, was it stitched for a Catholic Confirmation? Thank you for sparking my Irish roots into the world of cross stitching, now I must find a historical sampler to stitch! Your meditation piece you shared is something I think about now that I’m older and do so now in the moment, wish I had the knowledge earlier in life. I would love to receive the beautiful items you made, I appreciate your approach and style of videos so much! Thank you for taking all the time to share with us, all very interesting!! Oh, strawberries, lol!

Many thanks, Jackie! Your honestly and suggestions are most welcome. While in my sewing room or quietly stitching on the porch….i love my favorite subscriptions….you are certainly one of my favorites. I purchased the Bridget Power 1840 pattern. Will order threads and this will be my winter project. Thank you for introducing us to so many new designers. Our area is limited to cross stitch and so many depend on the internet for purchases. Now I will close and enjoy a bowl of strawberries from a local farm stand.

Thank you for showing Florilegium I think it is the same shop I use to make a special trip to when I lived in WI and we would go to Madison, WI. Then it disappeared and we couldn’t find where they had relocated. So it was with great delight that I saw it on your floss tube. A strawberry is wonderful and so is your floss tube. Thank you

I'm never bored with your content. I love how your curiosity has taken you on this quest to find out more about Bridget. I can relate to so much of what your share, it's a perfect fit. 🙂 Due to Bridget's age, I also thought this might have been for her Confirmation. Thank you for sharing, so interesting. Love it!

Just wanted to let you know how much I enjoy your videos. I am not a sampler stitcher but I was fascinated with story you shared about your journey in trying to find out more information about girl who stitched the sampler. Thank you for reminding us not to be more mindful in the things we do.

Jackie, thanks for such a delightful and thoughtful video. I hope you get more info on Bridget Power. The top part reminds me of flowers I'd see needlepointed on antique fireplace screens. Your wise words at the end hit home in a very real way. I used to be a monogomous stitcher like you, with sometimes two patterns. A couple of years ago I got a scary medical diagnosis. All seems ok now, but one doesn't know how many days they have. Life can change on a dime. As a result, I began this year starting a number of patterns from my stash. I'd like to know that in whatever days I have (it could be many years), that I at least had the pleasure, experience and excitement of starting patterns I've wanted to work on. And now to the subject of food, the strawberry kit looks lovely, very kind of you, and congrats on reaching 7500. Your cute little acorn and needle book are so pretty. Take care, and happy stitching.

8/13/24. Jackie 🤗. “This day will never come again.” Thomas Merton. Thank you.😢. What powerful and lovely reminder at the close of your time spent sharing your journey with all of us. I needed to hear this. I will be reflecting on it in the days ahead, and for whatever days I have to continue this life. I am grateful for each morning when I waken and for whatever I might do on any day…some days it is not much, and other days are quite full…I am giving myself permission to do what I wish to, and to give myself grace if I am content, not meeting the expectations of others. I enjoy life on my schedule, doing my favorite things. One of which is watching lovely floss tubes that stimulate my mind and my creative activities. I am so thrilled to spend time with you, I enjoy your historical search for background on Bridget and her stitching. You do not need to apologize for sharing this fascinating search, nor for the time you spend sharing everything with us. I could listen to your wonderful calming voice, all the information you give us, the things you show us for however long you wish to share. I tell everyone to watch you, the best you tube in my book. Additionally, thanks for all the items you shared. I ordered the lamp last week, and so far I am loving it! I need to get out another light to have on my other side, I have a couple different ones available. But the magnifier is a wonderful light, and I was thrilled with the affordable cost, it is going to be the best purchase to enable my stitching. I have been using a Nurge hoop the last 2 months, mostly size 2, I think I will try the 3 for a larger project I’m starting. I’m not a monagamous stitcher, and I’m still attempting to organize all the wips 😅. Do you remove your hoop every night? I have been attempting to do so, but sometimes forget.🤦🏼♀️. I have rambled enough for tonight, I am so thrilled to have an accomplished, new stitchy friend, that shares information, haul, notions; but more than all of those tangible things….shares herself , her feelings, and her heart ♥️. I love absolutely anything strawberry 🍓. And I can’t wait to find your petite needles 😮 I received one in a kit, but didn’t know where to purchase them. Jackie, thanks for being a wonderful part of the flosstube community. Peg 💛

Thank you so much, Peg! 🩷 I’m glad that the magnifying lamp is working for you. I wouldn’t be able to stitch without it! I do remove my hoop after I’m done stitching for the day. I have left it on my work once or twice but I always loosened it considerably.

Thank you so much. And the Thomas Merton - Thank you for sharing that. This thought has struck me in the distant past on rare occasion. Thank you for bringing back to light. Dear Jackie, I have enjoyed your Flosstube because it brings me comfort & quiet in such a time as this. Maybe it's my Power blood flowing thru my veins & hearing you speak of the Power Family. They are Irish & my family records go way back. I will try to bring them out & go over them & look for Bridget Power. There are some of the Power Clan added an s thru the years in America to Powers. My grandmother was Annie Power & most all the ladies were very fine needleworkers & quilters. I will get back to you if I find a connection. I loved your shop tour & I love the Strawberry Everything! Thank You!!!🍃🌹Sharol

Great to see you tonight Jackie. Always a real pleasure to watch your videos. Glad I could help with your quest for information about Irish history. It was interesting to remember long forgotten history. Bridget is really coming together & looks beautiful. Thank you for sharing your stitchy spot. I'm also a bobbinator for my DMC. I recently sorted out all my DMC's as I stitched 324 by WorksbyABC so needed to see how many I actually had. Turns out I had them all 😂😂😂 Loved the Thomas Merton piece. It's been years since I've heard his work. Take care, best wishes from 🇮🇪

I finally found some time to sit down and stitch and watch your floss tube video without being interrupted. Congratulations on your 7500+ subscribers I have been thinking of trying 56 count fabric I love stitching one over one on 40 count so I think it should be ok. I love all your projects you’re such an inspiration I love your calming voice, you totally get me in the mood to stitch. 😂 I’ve never made a strawberry but I plan on making some along with some pears. And now after seeing your velvet acorn I’m going to try that too. I live in the mountains in California an hour from Yosemite National Park and we have so many acorns I can use the top and add the velvet cushion like yours. It would be perfect for placing my needle when I’m working on my needle turn appliqué.
