I had no idea it was that easy to repair. I dropped my scissors on a piece not long ago and made a hole. Now I feel confident in being able to repair it. Thank you for sharing.

Came across this while looking for tips or hacks on how to repair some linen fitted sheets that had areas where the material has worn thin. I don't think this video is helpful for that, and even if it was, I don't have the patience or skill to reweave the material, but I'm really impressed by how flawless the repair you made was, and I learned something about how fabric is made. Thanks for the video :)

complete beginner - think I last sewed something in 1983? I have a lovely linen dress that has a little rip in the fabric which I thought of trying a visible mend. I think I might try this instead. It was such a clear video and explanation. Many many thanks

Hi Judith. I generally just cut the slub out and repair it the same way.

thanks for the tutorial I always thought you had to anchor the replacement threads. had no idea you could repair without anchoring. I do have one question. is the repair just as invisible if you have multiple threads to weave in? say you accidentally cut 3 or 4 threads in both directions. Is that still able to be hidden. thank you in advance.
@mountaincraftsstudio
Жыл бұрын
Yes. It is more challenging but it can be done. The key to making it invisible is to stagger the length of all four replacement threads. So if possible, as in drawn thread work, you may need to remove a lot more of the remaining part of the broken thread so your overlap will be further away from the hole.

This was really helpful, thank you! One question - how would you go about anchoring the threads if this repair is being done on clothing or high wear item? Or is it still not necessary? (I'm a little confused about which you recommend)
@mountaincraftsstudio
2 жыл бұрын
Good question. If I were doing it on clothing I would make the repair threads a little longer. If there are several threads I would stager the ends. Then I would launder it before trimming off the ends. That would set the thread tension enough to secure it.

How would you anchor them on clothing? I got a beautiful pair of linen overalls and accidentally spot treated them creating what I think is a small chemical burn. I’m thinking of undoing the hem and stealing so threads for repair but I’d love to know a way to invisibly anchor so I can wash them without too much concern. Any help you can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you so much for this tutorial. I loved hearing about how the linen is made and how that influences the repair. I have learned so much! In the tutorial you used a thread from the swatch. I have a linen couch that got a hole I want to repair but I don’t mind doing a visible mend with this method. Do you have a recommendation for what thread to use when you don’t have access to the edge or a swatch?
@mountaincraftsstudio
Жыл бұрын
You are so welcome! There are linen threads out there, but they’re not easy to find. My best suggestion is to Google linen thread. I generally don’t buy it so I can’t recommend a specific retailer.

Thank you so much for this very helpful tutorial! I have been working on a cross-stitch piece for about 8 years and have 3 holes where the fabric was creased. One is fairly small but the other 2 are much larger than the demonstration you provided. Is it essentially the same process for a larger hole?
@mountaincraftsstudio

Yes. It is exactly the same.

@@mountaincraftsstudio - Thank you so much for the fast reply! I tried to fix one of the holes yesterday. It doesn't look very good, but I think it will hold until I get it framed (and hoping the matting covers it!!). Unfortunately, the repairs of other 2 holes will be visible, as I will be stitching a birth announcement in that area. :( Wish me luck!!

There are holes in our pews at church that are made of woven fabric. Would you reccomend that I anchor those threads or still leave them loose?
@mountaincraftsstudio
Жыл бұрын
If the weave is tight I think they would be fine for continued use. It is CV only when the threads are loose and shifting around that you have to worry.

Hi there. New follower from England. I have a pair of antique line trousers that I am desperate to repair again. It need to be rewoven on both thighs. There is no hole on either thigh but both areas have become slightly threadbare. Would it be possible to send you some photos, for you to assess if a repair by reweaving is possible? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Unfortunately I found linen to be my most delicate and least durable fabric. Very easily ripped.
