In this clip from last month's hurdle camp, I talk about the importance of fluidity, which is truly one of the most underestimated aspects of hurdling. Hurdlers are always trying to be powerful and forceful over hurdles instead of just trusting their speed and their rhythm. In drills, in particular, don't be faster or more forceful over the hurdles than you are between the hurdles. Hence our slogan, "We don't hurdle; we sprint over hurdles." In the marching popover drill, we don't hurdle; we march over hurdles. In the cycle drill, we don't hurdle; we cycle over hurdles. In the quickstep drill, we don't hurdle; we step over hurdles. Therefore, full speed out of the blocks, we don't hurdle; we sprint over hurdles. Being fluid means being more efficient with one's effort, thereby causing less fatigue, less deceleration, and less technical mistakes in the latter stages of a race.
