This is just an outstandingly well done review. Everything you said just hit the nail on the head! The 16x16 has always been controversial since the beginning of the #MicroLongRange Project. However, they really are reliable on 4S with those very low kV motors (never burned a single one). To get a 4" with all the capabilities like GPS, buzzer, Vista etc. below 250g AUW really every gram counts. That's the main reason to stick to 16x16. The OSD bugs have been resolved in the meanwhile. It's a Betaflight bug and flashing down to 4.1.1. solves it.

i'm so loving thiss project, i fly like this all the time, still using ev800d box goggles and peter panning till my hearts content. only thing that concerns me is the gps rescue mode, i don't know if i can make it ''active'' while flying out far and then ''inactive'' when i head under some trees, ie just normal failsafe mode. would also love some control over gps rescue altitude gain, not sure if betaflight devs have the energy for that. ps. i think the gps unit might do better above the vtx antenna. think maybe you mentioned that in a vid. anyway, great stuff.

Analogue is generally so bad its intimidating to fly by comparison. Also the feature set for the system is extensive, you can change everything about your camera, goggles and VTX options through one system, the interface is intuitive and easy to learn and use as a one stopt for PID's and other commonly used settings. Everything has a visual interface and its very approachable.

As of right now, I happen to be one of the lucky ones that has already received my Explorer LR, And I am loving it so far. As you mentioned in your video, just being able to slow down and take a breath and enjoy what you can’t see from the ground is the experience that I was looking for when I stumbled across this model. Josh you hit the nail on the head with the intro. I got into fpv late 2015ish. At first I just bought the cheapest walkera p.o.s. drone that I could find, just to try out the hobby. I fell in love with fpv with my first flight. The quad I had was trash but I wanted more. I started learning from fpv KZitemrs and started spending so much time and money on this hobby that I absolutely love. I got myself some awesome gear and built top of the line freestyle quads and had a blast with them for a while. But recently my "flybag" sits alone in the corner of the room. I haven't touched my drones but I'm still so in love with the hobby, but you got it right and I never realized it until now. Flying for me became such a hassle. Charging a dozen batteries for hours on end a, getting all my gear ready and going out to scout out a place to fly and blowing through all my batteries in less than an hour, going no farther than the confines of the park or field I was flying in. Maybe I'll have to try one of these explorers because I truly do miss the feeling that I used to get when I took off into the sky. Maybe this could spark my drive to go out and fly more. I sure hope so. Keep up the great work, Joshua.

I removed the copper foil from the V2 Explorer and used faraday tape to protect the GPS. Wrap the wires with the tape and place a small piece of the tape on the back of the gps module. I have gotten up to 18 sats on the explorer within minutes. With the baby croc I did the same but adjusted the baud to 19200 on the soft serial, I have gotten over 20 satellite's consistently. With this fix the RTH works great.

Hello Joshua, I really enjoyed your explorer LR review, Im one of those "unhappy" customers as I preordered this drone in august and even now I have not received it, I first ordered the tarsier with crossfire but they also have issues sourcing the receiver so I asked them to ship the drone with out it and I will install my own, but then customs returned it to China (no idea why), at this stage I was ready to cancel my order but they offered me the analog (run cam version) and I accepted it, I hope it arrives sometime this month, bottom-line I dont know if I made the right decision, specially after I saw geprc and iflight versions, in your humble opinion, should I stick with flywoo or try to sell it and get one from either geprc or iflight? The DJI DVR does not record the Lat. & Long (5-2020) It does hold the last frame from the drone video on the screen after drone loses power/connection. ** the Lat. is missing a digit in the display. 47.394607 = 47.0394607 (The missing digit can be figured out by placing a pin in Google maps in the area you are flying in) *** it's like the number of digits required for both Lat & Long is reversed. Lat. needs 7 digits after the decimal place and Long needs 6.

love your intro .. so poetic :P but for all the reason you are mentioning, i have DJI flying robots sure they are not as agile (even in wing mode) but it's a bit like Linux Vs. Mac ;) the Flywoo LR is like the Linux brother of a Mac .. its sure has more features, functions, and whatnot, while the DJI Birds are slick you press the power button and they just work. with all that being said, i did seriously consider buying a Flywoo LR :) ended then up with a Flight DC2 as it has more entry-level capabilities (more forgiving when bumping into things, and it's smaller so it can be used after the learning is over for "other things") i'm hooked on FPV already .. like totally addicted, and now the FLywoo LR just feels like a waste of money (for reasons above) because if i wanna cruise and produce flawless video in the process .. i just fly the Mavic ;)

Hi JB, You shortly mention 3S (7:05), Would you say this exact quad flies better with 3S 18650 instead of 4S 18650? Was your comment with 18650s? Background: I am just trying to build the lightest O3 quad that easily flies for over 15 minutes for exploring on trips. Saw all the 4" LR Models but all seem to recommend 4S instead of 3S. (3S is minimum to have enough voltage for O3..). I though the extra 50g make it more sluggish. (I know +1 18650 is 15% more weight for 33% more voltage & energy, but then you could argue, get a 7" lol)

Ok ... I kinda like it but how much of this fantastic flight time is because you are flying it differently? No flips, no punch outs. Secondly... if you compare flight time of "popular, under powered multi-rotors" that has 15-20 minutes flight time... isn't this just what you would expect when you put on motors that barely let you recover from a roll?

After meeting another UAV pilot yesterday that was doing some long-range footage where I was he explained that this Flywoo Explorer is what he was flying all day yesterday. I happen to live on the volcano stretch that is known as, and part of the Ring of Fire here in California. Apparently he'd been fying there all day long and I didn't even know he was down there. I was trying to get a sunset video with fog over the coastline yesterday and all the sudden I heard him say "Oh yeah.. get way up there" and then when I landed I heard him ask. "Do you have any more packs?" and that's when I realized this is somebody that knows what I'm doing. He said he's been flying for at least 5 years. He was asking if I had Crossfire. I explained what I had and told him that I was thinking about buying one of these and he said to do it. OK I had to stop the video about halfway through Joshua. Displaying the GPS coordinates is an extremely helpful bit of information to have in your OSD, turning them off because your fancy new goggles don't record the OSD is one of the worst bits of advice I've ever seen from you, and a lot of people defer to you for information in this hobby. Not everyone is flying DJI and a lot of us still flying analog have zero desire to buy the DJI goggles due to a lot of the problems the system has overall

I received one after waiting about a month and a half. Unfortunately, the alternate VTx they used was mis-wired, so It died on the first flight....

@@Fordallas I was very lucky in that after receiving mine in that I didn't immediately hook it up and saw a reviews on the Flywoo websight that mentioned this very issue. YES, if you got a version with the PandaRC VTX, it is miswired. It will have to be fixed before you plug in the battery. It doesn't say alot about the flywoo quality department that this error was missed. It also doesn't say alot about their customer service that they haven't sent out a mass email to affected customers with details on the issue and how to fix. Because it is a super easy fix,

Old vid but as soon as you put a proper battery on it its no longer sub 250 long range. So many sub 250 vids out there but you have to go with a teeeny tiny battery on there and fly for basically nothing. You can do longe range but not at sub 250 :p

I just came across your video and this quad. I have been out of the hobby for about 5 years, I was mainly flying Align 550 to 700 size helis with Spektrum RX AND DX8 TX. Is this quad compatible with the Spectrum TX? Thanks!

Twig XL has 3" long range potential, running the 20A aio, stock betafpv 3800kv 1404 motors, gemfan windancer props 3blade 3"x2.8", on tattu or RDQ 650mah 4s. I get minimum of 6mins of pretty hard flying. Iv had 11+min flights just cruising around, cruises at about 2.5A if im careful..end cell voltage @3.55v

I wonder... I want to buy this one, but would want to change the fpv camera to a Tarsier v2 or Runcam Hybrid. Did anyone do this ? Or anyone know if these will fit ?

On another note after seeing the good news from @Nellik (see my other comment) I went to the Flywoo website to do a little research on the FC @Nellik mentioned. In the process I saw some of their customer feedback and it seem Flywoo may be having a variety QC and shipping problems. Anyone have any information on whether the problems are isolated or widespread?

..... Are you sure you guys aren't Salesmen from China ? .... We have gone from Simple to Complicated ..... and get to fly with Exposed Electronics , which was Never good ! Plus we have micro solder it together , then computer program it ! ....... The technology is better in a $40 Selfi Drone , hover , auto land , circle , follow-me and even Hand and Voice Commands ! ....... And if you Guys don't Stop flying like Maniacs at 100 mph as role models ..... there won't be a hobby in 5 more years !

Sounds like you really need to build you a large 15” prop low KV pancake motor 6s quad. Talk about flight time and getting lost in flying. Add a full size crossfire TX module and diversity receiver with 2.4 GHz video and you are basically unlimited. 40 minutes on a 6s 10,000 mah isn’t a problem and even more if you build a li ion pack that size.

Awesome review! Thanks! :) Getting really hard to resist these micro LR´s. Have been enjoying these comparison videos the last couple days. Looking forward to the next vid in the series! Now I only hope that DJI will release a ground station with the same internals as the goggels + hdmi out. That way long range will be much easier imo. I guess you´ll have to keep your head quite still to stay "in the beam" at range. Even though you where quite close, you had to track it with your head a little..? I guess I would move my head around too much, especially like 20 min into an LR flight lol. Please DJI I want a ground station for Christmas with hdmi out, and (user selectable) live audio! ;) Gound station is also very practical and almost a necessity when doing long grange with fixed wing and a headtracker. Thank you for all the time and effort that you put into making all this great content, Bardwell! :)

Would love to see a vid of a long flight (Not long range) freestyle mod of an LR4 prebuilt... there are bunch of long range acro builds, but seeing this video and your take on this drone... Would love to see a MOD of this drone for long flight time acro. (Why a MOD? and not a scratch build: If anyone has a prebuilt LR4 an loves it! but wouldnt mind to spend a bit of cash to level up its freestyle potential... a couple of cheap basic changes. Maybe loose the gps, tri props, or a frame awap same electronics... bla bla yada) Imagine a 4 inch frestyle build that could run at least 20min flights? Damn! Great vid Josh... already watched it like 5 times and can predict a 6th.

Sir, you can make the comparison of a Honda Goldwing and a CBR1000. That's the difference. Well, if you know about motorcycles.

I just got mine today, Analog. super stoked 750mah4s came with it. everything is all setup, ready to fly tomorrow. only thing i was woundering is why is there a mmixer setup in the dump/diff? Also im suprised you didnt mention the one biggest thing that worries me. The FC/ESC are connected via pins. Looks soft mounted, with 4 steel screws, and a top plate. I dunno, I might change mine out for steeel screws and nylon spacers. Its not a crasher by any means.

16:45 flight starting with 4S battery. 17:20 battery is nearly empty where you spoke about a full punch out. This full punch looks not like a full punch mine is doing. But difficult to be objective in this case. Next 5 minutes is with the 3S battery. I mixed up and I thought all was done with 3S battery. But Dave already wrote that he recommends a 4S battery.

I got my analog version last week. Mine has one problem. It surges, or has a slight voltage surge that jumps a tiny bit randomly and often. I've been in touch with tech support. They said to try swapping the motors. They said they will still exchange it though I do. So I did. It still does the same. Not sure what else if could be. Maybe FC? One wire was like a 16th of an inch short so I had to extend it. Didn't like doing that but it works. I'm hopping they will resolve this with an exchange. Osd showed everything working except rssi. It was locked at a fixed value. (I'm using the xm plus) Not sure why but I'll deal with that later. I did risk it a bit and flew it despite the mini surges. It flies great. Not sure how far out it will go since I am not using cross fire but would like to invest into that. Maybe r9?

Has betaflight fixed the 4.2 osd bug yet or is it still necessary to roll back to 4.1? I just got an analog v2 explorer with the f4 fc. It has betaflight 4.2.0 wondering if updating to 4.2.9 will fix it?

Think twice before buy anything from Flywoo. Their drones have issues with GPS and VTX or camera.. and of course you will never get any support from them.
