Just a slight correction. The truck originally came with a smog laden 360. I bought a 390 and had a machine shop rebuild it, so the block may very well match the heads. The only thing I remember is that I had chromoly valve guides and seats put in. (I think LOL) and a mild cam, this is going back to the late 80's early 90 era. Thanks for the great intro video. My years working in the shop on the Robosaurus build, and then the years on the road are great memories for me too. Thank you also for supporting my youtube channel. I have been standing-by to deploy overseas for a year, and doing nothing but buying parts for the truck online. So, as soon as I get some video from my son Eric, I will begin editing the big picture. I am very thankful that I found your youtube channel and was able to track you down. It is an honor to have you do this build.

In high school I had a 1968 F-250 camper's special, with the 360 in it. My uncle and I overhauled the engine and put an Edelbrock performer intake, cam, and 600cfm manual choke carburetor. That sucker was a dog, a big dog without power steering or brakes. However, I was/am a better driver because of the heavy rascal. Plus it turned on my gearhead gene and I've been pushing on wrenches since then.

No worries with the exhaust manifold bolts...I had the same C4AE heads on my 390 and simply drilled them out to accept longer bolts with nuts to hold everything together...It worked great for over 22 years, until I swapped out the 390 for the original Flathead V8...1952 Ford F-1 pickup.

Awesome info on these bad boy motors i have ran these motors for years winning a bunch of races. The shelby cobras with the 427 FE owned the streets for years as well as the lightweight thunderbolts did the tracks. Yes they cost more to build that a comparable chevy but i learned through the years of running both you get what you pay for in this sport.

Halfway through and I noticed the intake: an Edelbrock 2105 ("Performer 390"). You can tell by the shape of the carb openings; their 7105 for the FE has 2 oval throats but the 2105 has that somewhat pretty unusual oval with that flat inner edge.

GM builds are more common because you can make a GM engine cook for 1/3 the cost of a Ford engine build. Ford made their own bed during these years with their "2 barrel low rpm passenger car engine" mentality and Ford factory performance parts are as rare as hen's teeth. (Now and then). Cheap and plentiful GM parts never get boring to me.

Came to this video from one further along in this series and let me tell you I am excited to follow this build because of how detailed you are with everything. I am a big Fe enthusiastic myself, and this series is particularly applicable to my situation. I have a 1973 Ford F250 with a 390 that I'm hoping to build into a 444 Stroker built mostly for torque and longevity that being said I'm hoping to get some pretty ambitious numbers and I'm going to spare no expense on the parts. As an amateur Machinist it has been my aspiration to do the machine work myself but I don't have availability to the machines I need, so hell maybe I'll send it to you(?)

I have driven lots of work trucks with this motor in them. lousy power, lousy mileage, ran on forever. So reliable but poor. I would say the trucks with the best overall power, mileage, lifespan(that I drove)(in the 3/4 ton range pickups and vans) were 1960-1970 Dodge. Not much for creature comfort like the Ford but more power, better gas mileage and reliability as well as the legendary torqueflite automatic transmissions. GMC/chevrolet second choice and ford last.

it can but it will not be a true 427. the 427 was almost completely different from the 352,390 and 428 blocks. had a much thicker cylinder wall. the bore was 4.23 to start. and its known as the side oiler to very hard to find. i put the wrong bore size. trol is right

Actually you can't match the bore and stroke of a original 427. You could bore and stroke an 390 block to a larger size than a 427. The original 427 used a special cast block that had a 4.23 bore. It is not possible to bore other blocks to this size. Many times the origianal 427 blocks were too thin to bore oversize.

@@Myvintageiron7512 I thought I picked out the clues. Thanks for the FE and other videos. I am using the FE videos for reference for my own. Is there a Phoenix Metro machine shop you can recommend?
