Bro... people like you are the real MVP's for doing this shit one handed so that others may learn. Know that your aggravation does not go unappreciated. Thank you.

Put the lower connection together first. The twist in the line was giving you fits. -easier to take that out at the upper connection.

I got my pump out the top past the lower radiator hose with the pressure line still attached. I got a funnel crammed in there when I pulled the return hose and got way less fluid on the frame or the ground. Rags help but my funnel got all but about 1/2 cup of it. I left the pressure hose on and had no more dripping.

Absolutely fabulous video covers what I need in detail, except I have one question is that the most likely hose to leak ? I had it replaced 8 years ago (I think it was that hose they never showed me I knew it was leaking a little) now I have a drip well i bit more than a drip and that looks like the culprit after getting a finger up there. do you have a video on bleeding the system ? Best way for you ?. Thanks again great.

Ford uses Mercon V tranny fluid for the power steering in their diesels. That's what its supposed to have.

My owners manual says to use Mercon ATF on page 282. Is an 04 F350. I just know you don't want to be mixing ATF with actual power steering fluid.

ugly HP I also just replaced my high pressure line along with the pump and got everything from Autozone.... I think the line was a little over $20 and worked perfect. No leaks and no sense in spending over $100 at a dealership.

How many pressure and non pressure lines are in this system? I'm looking into replacing my pump and figured I'd do the lines and a flush while I'm there but dont know what all to look for (qty or part numbers)

I got a question for y'all wrencher's; replaced my hydroboster on the 05' 6.0 the other month and now I'm getting a small whining from the booster when heavy braking or steering return. After replacing 3 of 4 rotors over the last yr the booster seal went out and I did a heavy line flush at that time. Steering pump fluid is full but truck has always struggled turning when low rpms. Only issue I can find is the steering supply like on the booster bottoms out before getting good and tight; if it leaks it is very very small. Thinking I should do a steering flush before swapping out the new booster? It is a Auto reman and wishing I would of went OEM. Thanks for the feedback and merry Christmas!

Taking off the old HP line ...Its JUNK!!! Cut it, and put a socket on it. Have the new line ready to go right next to it and stop the leaking. Great video , nice work. These are a pain in the ass no matter what. I just replaced mine 6 months ago but I apparently did not secure the line well enough and it rubbed a hole in the new line. I had to make a quick fix so I used a 1/4 inch air line inline connector and 3 hose clamps on each side. It held for months but the dripping started.

So this doesn’t drain the power steering tank? I have a leak and thought it was motor oil but it’s coming from power steering pump. Thought it would be red but this makes sense.
@dangeary2134

It’s on the pressure side. The pump gears should hold back what is in the reservoir. If it doesn’t, the pump is really bad.

Great video thanks! Also I have a question . I was doing donuts in my 2006 Ford F-250 6.0 I had the 4x4 high on after I stopped my steering wheel got stiff only when I drive it’s smooth and my brake goes almost all the way down what could that be?
@uglyhp8225

could be a bad ps pump but not to sure if the both are related

@NextGenTerminator

Not sure if you are still having the issue. Definitely sounds like you overpressured the ps pump. Turning the wheel all the way to lock, which most people will do when doing donuts, causes pressure inside the pump to skyrocket. It can damage the internals. It will be hard to turn the wheel when you are not moving (more friction on the tires) and your brakes will also require more force on the pedal. Your power steering pump drives both the wheels and the hydroboost, instead of a vacuum booster like on gas vehicles.

just get the line the oring is nearly impossible to install without a special tool and the lines are all dirt cheap they come with the oring already installed

I have a nephew that has a 2006 F350 that has loss of power steering and brakes. Well, he wants me to look at it for him and I am leaning towards power steering pump. Well, my question is, could the high pressure hose leading to the power steering pump be faulting even if there isn’t any leaks? I searching as much as possible to help him out.
@uglyhp8225
5 жыл бұрын
ive never seen or heard of that being a possibility but you could have a bad check valve in the booster that can cause both those

@@genarogarcia6719 sorry for the late reply, but I ended up having him take it to a shop rather than throw parts at it. I’m wanting to say it ended up being the power booster. Don’t hold me to that because I’m not sure why that would tie into the power steering.

The Ford’s use tranny fluid mercon 5 in the power steering system
@5400bowen
4 жыл бұрын
It is now Mercon V. If the V is the Latin 5 then you could say it that way. But Ford and all the parts stores only say the letter V. The other type is Mercon SP. Apparently Ford discontinued the Mercon with no suffix. The V says it replaces the no letter suffix type on the bottle.
