PS... I just replaced my steering box. About to do the lines. You can get to the lines on the steering box through the wheel well. 😁👍

You don’t have to remove the fan, but take the labeled shroud off and take the nuts off the top of the shroud that mounts to the block, pump removal is a pain in the ass with that but you don’t have to remove fan itself

Matt, do you think it's possible to remove the high pressure line (Pump to Hydroboost) without removing the fan? I don't need to remove the pump itself, just the line going to it.

It might be possible, but it would be hard to see and reach without doing so.

After watching other video's about bleeding the pwr str i think your way is pretty genius. Did you figure out the correct direction to rotate the PS pump?
@goddom
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks! It seemed to work out the direction I was spinning it. I was trying to figure out the path of the belt and determine how it would turn the PS pulley. I think a general rule, all engines turn clockwise when looking at the crank pulley, so if the accessory pulley is on the "inside" of the belt (being driven by the inside ribbed side) it has to be turning the same direction as the crank pulley and if the accessory pulley is being driven by the backside of the belt, it has to be going the opposite direction.

Thanks for your help with p.s.booster. Do you know if you can bypass the booster an recirculate back to pump?
@goddom

I don't know why you couldn't. Are you deleting your power steering but want to keep the hydro-boost?
@iammajorstocktonthebesteve225

No, not deleting it. Booster is suckin power steering into the vacume line, and the shit makes white smoke like a siv. I replaced the booster and booster brake reservoir an that didnt help. Should I go with my power steering feed line from reservoir to the line that goes to gear box , or the other line to pump? When you have time let me know what you think. I'm almost at my whits end with this truck. I'm loving to hate it now. Powerstroke is the Knuckle buster king.

If i may... I do not mean to stick my two cents in and normally would not... But i must warn you, DO NOT bypass the hydro booster. A diesel engine does not work on a vacuum. Thus they put in the hydro booster... It acts as the force behind the master cylinder.... Much as a vacuum does on a car. When the hydrobooster does not get fluid... The brakes will not function. If you have changed out all those parts what it seems to me (without having it in front of me to look at) is that you are loosing fluid through the bleed hose off the booster. Essentially what you have is a check valve in there that lets air out of the system while keeping the fluid in. If you hit the pedal, whats happening here is the fluid is coming out of that hose and hitting possibly the exhaust on the left side of the engine. The system is not sealed with that valve malfunction.... Again, I dont have it in front of me so I cant be sure... But I would look at that. Again DO NOT bypass any part of that system. Here where I live in WNY we have inspections.... If a truck came in, even if it wasnt in for a state inspection and that system is byspassed or not functioning and the customer refused to fix it... I have to void the sticker. If they still chose to leave with it... Id be calling the police to have them stopped. It is absolutely vitial that that system function. Just a heads up.... Hope that helps some.

Your right I'm not gonna mess with this issue. I'll have a pro take a look and fix it. I just hate given my money away, but in this case I dont want to chase line for a leak. I'm to hyper a person an all this 6.4 issues are for a special person to handle. An I think your right taken it im 2 ford tomorrow

I agree - Jakal is right, without the hydro-boost it will be nearly impossible to stop the truck. I can tell you this for certain because the truck I am working on I had to move it without power steering or hydroboost and its SUPER hard. I was just flat towing it from one part of my property to another and I would not want to try that at speed. Trust me, you will be over it in 30s just trying to move the truck in your driveway without the power boost.

You live in Detroit? I'm in Warren and need someone that knows these 6.4 powerstroke diesels. I have a 2008 f350 6.4 that is leaking from the driver side front and don't know where it's really coming from

I have 08 diesel and sometimes I'd hit the brakes pretty hard and then I can't hardly turn the steering wheel then let go of the brakes then a second I can turn the steering wheel ok . Not sure if it's the power steering pump or something else have you ever heard of the problem iam having ??

Talked to a Ford Mechanic. He's telling me there's booster when hitting the brakes harder than normal and your steering pump is getting week it's going to put everything to the brakes and you'll lose your steering . My truck has130,000 miles on it . He said it usually happens on higher mileage trucks .when the steering pump getting a little weaker .Thinking down the road I'll probably change the power steering pump but looks like a pain to do .Hopefully they know what they are talking about .

Be careful trying to finish anything to do with this truck in two day's. Something always presents itself as difficult. Seems like there making everything as difficult as possible to repair yourself. My biggest complaint is how many possibilities there are if out of know wer u have white smoke. Lots of mechanic want to immediately say it a piston and ring, injector, damage that is the most expensive. If your truck runs kinda shitty an white smoke increases when you press the brake, your brake booster is a possibility, as well power steering that goes into booster and the list can go on.

Ok...so I just did the line from the hydrobooster to the gearbox and the the gearbox to the cooler yesterday at the shop. Im not knocking how anyone does their own work at all... But i do know that those lines can be changed without taking apart the whole top of the motor like that. Remove the tire... Take out the inner fender liner. You have access to get to those lines... Its tight but doable... Cut the lines near the fittings... Then a 18mm crowfoot to break them loose.... Again its tight... Use the proper size wobble extention and its all good. Its a little finagling with the lines to get them back in place but it absolutely can be done... Attatch the cooler line 1st then the hydro booster line... Watch the way the line is set next to the engine when it comes out... It HAS to be in the same spot for fittment. Its not a terrible job... I think 3 hrs it was... and that included an oil change. You will find a stubby 18mm wrench will come in handy as well... Remember the line has to sit right where it was... And dont forget the o rings on the fittings.

The power steering pump can be done . Just did it .Got a motor intact but no S.p I was like how the fuck did they get that out. Cause I just went though replacing timing cover and had to remove the S p and it was hard to get out with all the stuff around it. But you only need to remove the top line to put it back in, it need s to be persuaded a little with a pry bar.
