And at about 40-50k miles, they start to run rough when they are cold. Intake valves carbon up, and there is no real way to clean up the carbon deposits, due to the direct injection and the fact that you cant use ANY type of intake cleaner because it will destroy the turbo big time. Fords recommended fix, "replace the heads". Good job ford!

I'm all for better MPGs, lower pollution ETC, and so on, that's why I have a Crew Cab Silverado, and, a 2012 Mazda 3 for my daily commuter, to save on fuel, But Ford is pushing the Eco Boost like its a new invention. Turbos have been around for close to 100 years, with there lower ends beefed up to handle the harder loads. Now Ford renamed the Turbo, Now its called Eco Boost, and the Ford faithful are falling for it. If Ford using smaller, Turbo engines were saving a lot of fuel, it'd be good, but it doesn't save but 1 to 2 mpg, in exchange you'll get a engine that will NOT!!! have the same durability as the larger engines, wearing out while polluting the atmosphere. The fact of overworked smaller engines prematurely wearing out is as sure as the sun rising every day, its been proven millions of times, but you cant tell that to idiots that think Ford invented the Turbo, Oh I'm sorry, Eco Boost.

Mike n Serena the ecoboost is a direct injected engine, and carbon build up seems common in all of them, not just fords. Lots of makers are doing their ecoboost equivalents. Ford aren't claiming the turbo part is a new invention from what I read
@BoeingvsAirbus1578
9 жыл бұрын
guitarplayerforu Carbon build up issues have been rectified in the Ecoboosts in production now and it mainly only effected the 2.0 240-250ps unit. This can be helped by the use of leaner burning premium fuel which also has additives and given the lower price of fuel now anyway anyone should be able to justify it as it's the same price that regular used to be. Carbon build up issues haven't just happened to Ecoboost units but other forced induction direct injected units. Diesels are crap and people still buy them when they're doing 10,000 miles a year and they wonder why they clog up and stop working! There's been issues of people putting the wrong oil in the ecoboosts as well as places like Halfords were telling people they need 5W30 oil in their 1.0 units when it actually uses 5W20! so there are various outsider factors that have affected them.
@guitarplayerforu
9 жыл бұрын
BoeingvsAirbus1578 its shocking how a well established place like halfords can recommend the wrong oil for a engine. Thats like putting diesel in a petrol car, just wouldnt do it would you? Surely that wrong oil would wreck the 1L units?

I have towed once or twice with it but I avoid towing as I just don’t like to do so, it’s been through woods and through a few rice fields but I mostly take good care of it and I’ve never had any major problems, timing chain was my fault and expected.

The main source of power of the engine is the intake fan instead of air entering the engine at atmospheric pressure, this intake fan boost the pressure within the cylinders for optimum power and performance on the road, improved acceleration, more efficient highway passing and added power for towing. It will also improved fuel efficiency and buy burning less fuel, the vehicle could also expel fewer harmful pollutants emissions in the atmosphere. In addition this car could be reliable and very responsive to the driver. Even without the exhaust fan and the direct fuel injection to the cylinder, by the Intake Fan alone will do the work. Just like the Air intake accessory for an automobile Engine that’s been copied all over the place.

I drive a 2015 Ford Expedition king ranch with the 3.5 ecoboost. I use to think that only a v8 belongs in a truck until I test drive one. I am impressed on how fast this huge SUV is and well it can tow. Don't knock it until you try it. As for reliability only time will tell as I only have 30000 as of now.

Too much parts that can fail on such an engine, as a car mechanic educated at a Ford dealer/garage I know. I stick with my 1.8L 125HP gasoline engine in my F. Focus Mk II. No turbo, no high-pressure system, no special NOx filters needed and a little bit more power, than needed for German Cities, so I don't always need the high revs, what saves the engine. No enginge problems in 9 years (105.000km / 65635mls)

finally someone who knows what they're talking about! in my 2007 F150 with the 5.4L i usually get about 16.6 driving to work which is part freeway and part residential with many hills. I have driven my truck down the highway going across to eastern washington (i live in the seattle area) and I got over 21MPG. it probably would have went higher if i wasn't going 70mph with my last gear changing at 40mph... wish i had a 5sp auto :/

The new Ecoboost engines are dual injected so they don't have the carbon build up problem anymore but I will say that you don't get the best of both worlds at the same time. You can have Eco. You can have boost. You can't get both at the same time. Drive an f150 Ecoboost and actually use the power that is on tap and you'll actually get worse mpg than the V8
@rickeydriskill1096

@veltpak6 oh yeah Ford doesn't make engines. It doesn't make the 6.7L diesel in the SuperDuty (unlike Ram with Cummins), it doesn't make the 4.4L V8 diesel for Range Rover, and the 3.0L V6 diesel for Land Rover and Jag. It didn't produce or develop any Duratec and Duratorq engines, that was 100% all Mazda (which Ford didn't invest any money in at all). I think you are completely spot on with your post. Well researched, and most of all.... well done! :)

@trypprl467

nicknicolosi1 i cant speak for all vehicles running the ecoboosts, but for the focus st’s the ecu does a pretty decent job of protecting from lspi. while reflashing an aftermarket tune on may take away the lspi failsafes (lookin at you, cobb), other tuners retain anti-lspi capabilities. what it really boils down to is knowing how to drive a manual, and to not floor it under 2k rpms. its a lot of user error involved in the blown ecoboost motors, or at least the 2.0s
@nicknicolosi1
4 жыл бұрын
@@trypprl467 yea, that was exactly my point, in response of the low end tourque, people floor this car under 2K RPM, and It isn't healthy for the motor. I have reached 32K, and so far is holding up, I am FBO and tuned by JST since the car had around 5K miles, going BT now, probably a Garrett GTX2860r gen 2. I am pretty happy with mine tbh. The EVAP thing is the only annoying thing I have found, I am at 3 purge valves already, and possibly 4th is coming soon lol, already threw the P1450 code.

nicknicolosi1 oh really? see im in college and just had my first car shit the bucket, so i bought used at ~70k. at 75 now and already had the purge valve done. im essentially stock still, unfortunately, as my parents arent the most supportive of buying extra stuff for my car:/ its a shame people dont just downshift or climb in revs before givin it the beans. really makes these cars look at lot worse than they are.
@nicknicolosi1
4 жыл бұрын
@@trypprl467 I agree, plus downshift is fun, and makes it more fun to drive when this car is driven around 3K RPM, sounds amazing and responds to throttle inputs very well. I lovey the FoST. When you ready for mods, start with the access port, intercooler and downpipe, it will blow your mind on how much faster it makes the car feel, I was making around 260whp on 93.

I totally agree, in a few years this engine is going to be a headache while they are getting old, and the worst part will be the highest emissions of contaminants. I would prefer a 8400 rpm supercharged 2.5 liter HCCI Variable compression ratio variable cycle inline 4 cylinder with multiair inspired VVL, VVT, and plasma sprayed cylinder walls over a 2.0 even a 2.3 ecoboost. High compression atkinson cycle and supercharger disengaged and bypass for fuel economy and low compression, otto cycle, and supercharger engaged for power. Also the VCR uses variable compression rods and a PWM controlled solenoid for infinite variability between 15:1 to 9:1 so the compression ratio is changed on the fly even on sudden changes in throttle application.
