One of the first truly reliable Fords. My father put over 240,000 miles on a 2.0 Mk3 with very few problems. The Cortinas he used previously were almost worn out by 100,000 miles.

@@whatsreallygoingon253 Try telling that to owners of the latest Focus RS or had the DMF go on a MK3 Monedeo TDCI or a failed Power Shift gearbox ... I could go on but you get the idea. Fords have average reliability these days. If you want car you can depend on get a Toyota or Honda.

I had the 2L GLi model 199.000 miles with only the alternator failing. Gave the car away due to owning a van. Later got my hands on a 2.4 V6 which was good till I was blown away with a Cosworth version, which I still own.

It was. At the time it was big improvement on the previous model Granada. I had both. The new shape took some getting used to for some people, but the gear box and performance were very good for the day. Even the coppers who stopped me at three in the morning said they were impressed by its speed and how it handled. I think they were looking forward to getting one themselves because they even sent me home with just a flea in my ear rather than a ticket. Ah, those were good times...........

MrChoochoo the 80’s and 90’s had some very iconic fords. Miss them days. I’ve never driven a Scorpio, only sierras, escorts and fiestas. But I’ve always liked the look of the Scorpio. I haven’t seen one on the road for a long time now.

I had the 1988 2.9 v6 4x4 Scorpio in 1991 , epic car ,loved it . Comfortable mile muncher, but it did have some expensive problems , recurrent steering rack leaks were the final straw .

I liked them had a Ghia X 2.0 dohc used as a minicab. Covered 300k without major issues. Good build quality. Camchain did get bit rattly towards the end must have stretched but never broke. Fantastic vehicle!!!

It was still "Ford Granada" in '88, Scorpio being the spec. above Ghia but Ford often referred to it as Ford Scorpio (e.g. in the brochure of this year) but they all had Granada badges on the back and on the log book.

Thats because the british dont react well to change. In the rest of europe these were called scorpio. The last cavalier was already called vectra on the mainland.

i remembersome years i use same car 2,0 Bensin in Germany, its whas good for family and to for long distance....because we some thimes have to life in Estonian because we have a farm in Estonia, and so i drive this way with 2 little children

Man, that old bill has one heck of a hooter going on there O.o It was sad that the American's never got on with it the Merkur Scorpio and them 2.9's could easily outpace any of their V8's easily with the Cosworth ones able to top 150. Funny too the American's never liked the turbo version of our XR4i, man what an absolute stonker of a car just oozing Ford RS but nope America wasn't having it although they swore blind on Fox body cars not knowing it was in fact a British MK3 Escort with different exterior metals lol

My step dad as a car dealer had one of these in top spec like what matey boy here who had a party in the back with those plush leathers but much more such as Graphic equaliser had more than 4 or 5 (like shown here) bands it was more like 7 or 8. electric absolutely everything and I maybe having a false memory on this but you could "angle" the speakers for which there were not just 4 but probably 10 or so..no sub woofer but all standard... it was an auto. No idea on engine size (maybe 2.9) but it was powerful as hell (I was only 10 mind) - thirsty on the fuel as I remember my step dad moaning at this and had trouble selling it for good profit.... ive never seen another at that trim level since so if anyone knows which one im talking about let me know. Many thanks

Both Fords scrapped a long time ago. Volvo 740 estate in Frank's driveway at the start is still going with 300,000 + on the clock.

Interesting detail. You don't see many of them around at all (2023), I still see the occasional SD1 and Volvo. There is a lot of affection in these comments for the Scorpio/Granada but I really cannot recall the last time I actually saw one (Scorpio version). As a young lad in the 80's, and I was into cars, I don't recall any longing or nice thoughts for it at all ! I've always felt more affection for the Mk1 and Mk2.

I've an an '87 RWD Scorpio. 4x4s are even rarer. Mine's on chunky winter tyres, which got it through all the snow fine last year.

@@StatusFIX I think I could have extended to £1k to buy that. It was 1 cyl. down though but I'm sure that wouldn't have been much. Mine was idling like a pig for some time. A new set of plugs and an air filter sorted it. Still need to give it a new dizzy & leads to improve it further.

.good handling car .2.9 great engine but its nearly as heavy as a 302 Winsor. 60 degrees iron blocks need 3.3 at least in 12 valve form ..still better than a au falcon 4lt in the handling Department.
