2:10 Coffee/tea is a thing in Hong Kong. It’s called Yuanyang (lovebirds’ tea). It’s three parts coffee to seven parts milk tea. The tea is black tea, and made strong. The milk is a full cream milk. Sugar is usually added.

I left my phone at Nijo Castle ladies room. Didnt realize until hours later on a local eating tour of Osaka. The tour guide was great about contacting the appropriate people to confirm it had been found. We went back the next day and had no trouble retrieving it. I bought some souvenir stickers as a "thank you" and to support the Castle.

I feel bad for Natsuki. I'm not a Japanese or living in Japan, but I once had that kind of expereince of pressure from a Japanese client to be at an appointment place at the exact time (or even before). It was more than 14 years ago when I was a young lawyer in Bangkok, sent by my boss to a court 40km away in Samut Prakarn to meet a Japanese client as he had a mundane court appointment there. I left my house more than an hour before the appointment time, but got a bit lost as I took a wrong turn somewhere down the road and stuck in the traffic. By the way, this was before GPS was commonly available. I eventually arrived at the court 5 minutes before the appointment, but the Japanese client had already called my boss, complaining to him that I was late. And the boss called me to let me know that I screwed up big time. And as all local lawyers knew, judges wouldn't come to the court room until something like 30 minutes after the official appointment time. So, I spent around 30 minutes in the court room with the client, just waiting for the judge to come. Imagine how akward that 30 minutes were. 😂

Japan is well aware of the fact that people have a sudden need for a place to have that activity. There are two love hotels around that shrine with a reasonable rate. Tourists need to know the fact that they are easy to get criticized if they have done things disrespectful in Japan.
@ragsdale710

The Japanese women would have known that. Most tourists when they hear love hotel think it's like something like a soap land, and not a hotel that you can rent for a few hours.

Last year when I was travelling Japan for 3 weeks there were smoking booths on the Shinkansen. When I returned for a longer trip this year, the smoking booths had all been closed and/or removed. The booths are still available on some platforms, but not the train itself. It was a mild disappointment, as I had previously used the time to chat to locals and practice my pidgin Japanese skills.

10:46 -- I lost my tuque/beanie in the Shinkansen during my vacation and had somewhat a similar experience trying to retrieve it from the lost and found section of Shinkansen. It happened that the tuque ended in Hakata while I was visiting Kyoto. After giving all the info that I could remember of the Shinkansen train number and name, the wagon #, the seat #, the time, the colour of tuque, etc. To the staff of Shinkansen's lost and found section, they confirmed finding my tuque but they gave me only 2 options to retrieve my lost object: 1) go to Hakata to claim it in person or 2) ask a Japanese friend or a friend with resident certificate to call and get it back to me. Through a friend of a friend, I was able to get my tuque back but this friend had to go through a barrage of questions from the staff of Shinkansen's lost and found. I was dumbfounded by the shear amount of questions while I already gave a lot of details. Anyway, it was quite an experience going through the Japanese bureaucracy (if one can call it this way) for a lost item. 😅

LOL! Me and my friend had a similar encounter with the police (at a 交番 Koban) too. We had got all the way to the bag check at Haneda when my friend realized she did not have her passport on her. Low and behold she left in Asakusa at the UniQlo right by Don Ki. Somehow we managed to get a Taxi back to Asakusa and when we went back to the UniQlo. They informed us that they had turned it over to the police. When we got to the Police Box, the police proceeded to ask those same bizarre questions.. Do you have any proof that this is you?(while looking at a picture of her) how long were you in Japan? What were you doing here? how did you lose it? (that one made me chuckle) My friend my was literally crying as she was worried we would miss our flight, her tears meant nothing to them LOL, they shrugged it off and handed her a stack of papers to sign. Luckily we got the passport and made in back before our flight boarded.
