@VideosandMemories-qi4mq honestly i didn't give it a chance cuz i had my heart broken one too many times by live action Superman content. Superman the Movie was extremely special to me growing up, and the exec producers destroyed the last 2 (thanks again DC) and even LNC was great in beginning but the characters totally became like caricatures. ugh and then Superman Returns (don't even get me started! loved the potential, hated that it was basically a Kevin Spacey movie and that's back when we all loved him). . i just didn't wanna take the risk. funny thing was, a good friend loved it and i would see bits and pieces (and of course keep up cuz of previews, cuz i watched Charmed and Buffy at the time. same channel) so i probably would have started it but then i figured. .shows get stupid once they hit 6 or 7 seasons. and who knew it was gonna go 10 seasons! and back then there was no streaming. 1st words out of my mouth when I finished was I can't believe i didn't watch this it would have changed my life! that's why i love that Michael used to say that in S1 of the podcast. lol cuz i was like yes! I get why people say that about Smallville now 😅

This episode was literally a House of Wax episode. It was literally a one and done deal story. It's sad but it was an average episode. Also this episode should've been the last episode with Lana Lang as her story served its purpose. I don't know why Al and Miles tried to give more story to Lana because it felt just repetitive and should've allowed Clark to move on with his life instead of the on again off again relationship.

Forever hits you different when you rewatch it the same week as your high school reunion. And for all the silliness of this FOTW, those last 5 minutes with Chloe emptying the Torch and then our three teenagers riding off into the unknown are very relatable. It was a beautiful way to end a very uneven episode. Aside from the end, the ONLY saving graces were the Teague/Luthor scenes (with some long awaited explanation for Jason's actions) and the Clark/Jonathan scenes. And that's when it dawns on you how underutilized John Schneider was in season 4. The gravitas he brought to his scenes was sorely missed. P.S. I always bellylaugh when Lana nails Brendan with that drawer. The way the scene is shot is hilarious. Brendan was one of the most irredeemable FOTW and he got the ending he deserved.

@@passionsquietrage Up to a point in season 4, I understood the need to marginalize the Kents as Clark was becoming an adult. But it's scenes like this that make you think "Damn, the show isn't the same without the Kents' pearls of wisdom". Season 5 does put more focus on him at the start (and that's when it becomes obvious who Jor-El's warning was about), but his loss is never truly dealt with, IMO. For all his ego and platitudes, Jonathan IMO was the moral compass of the show. And his departure just when Clark's own development begins to stagnate is deeply felt.

@@Costas22 Very true. We all knew that moment was coming since it's such a huge part of Superman's lore, we just didn't know when it was going to happen until it finally did. They set it up very well with him having heart and other medical issues for several seasons prior.
I was really surprised that the last few episodes running up to the season finale were really filler episodes. This was yet another episode where I was invested in the Luthor storyline than the main plot. I really think they should have focused more on the stones story because it does play into the finale but they opted not to go that route. I'd give this half a bomb because the main characters, no matter the writing, the actors really played their parts well. I'm still hopeful you guys get Jane Seymore on the show. I really wished they kept Camille on the show. I really hated how she left. She was one of my favorite side characters.

I think the writers having to write around Jensen's availability was a part of why all that filler happened. Lately, they've been completely overlooking the emotional depth of the episodes and fixating on a less than realistic plot point (it's based on a comic book - How realistic can it be?) or whatever plot point they weren't paying attention to and missed rather than attempting to actually watch the show, much less try to understand why this show means so much to so many people. Rosenbaum is the worst. He's incapable of separating his experience watching the show from the personal resentment he harbors toward the things and people that made him want to leave. Nothing against the actor who played Ethan, the first Sheriff of Smallville. He was fine, but there wasn't really much to his character. He was a plot device more than anything. That's why it wasn't particularly shocking or meaningful when be turned out to be the one who tried to kill Lionel. Camille, however, was interesting. She had personality, she had color, she had humor. She made a character who was still essentially a plot device memorable. Consequently her death actually had an impact. God bless her.

Jen T was wonderful! Loved her perspective and analysis of Forever. It just goes to show how as fans, we all like/dislike different parts of an episode to others and as Jen said.... that is ok. That is why we are fans so we can talk to each other about what endears an episode to us. Some do not like an episode, while some do. For example, when Jen said Static was her fave episode, I laughed to myself because it is not one of my faves, but I think it is wonderful and shows what awesome balance Smallville fans have. I LOVE hearing why people love/hate an episode it gets me thinking. I'm the eternal Smallville fan that loves all things Smallville and yes, Forever was not a fave of mine, BUT I can pick out the silver lining in some scenes. I remember on my first watch marvelling at how positively evil Jason and Genevieve had become and then Jason was shot...by Lionel!! That was pretty big action in itself. (I agree, Lionel shot Jason so he would not reveal info that he did not want Lex to know). I still chuckle to myself about the amount of time, effort and $$ that it would have taken to recreate the high school right down to the sticky notes and articles on the wall. Hilarious! To me, it is all part of the fun of Smallville and I'm not going to dwell on it, because as Jen said, there were other things going on that were worth appreciating. Well done Jen! LOVED Camille, thank you for having her on, she is as delightful in real life as she was as Sheriff Adams. Always hold on to Smallville...just grip harder on the not so fave episodes!😂😂

You're looking for reasons to hate on Chloe (again). She literally does nothing like what you are accusing her of doing in this episode. The final scene with Chloe saying "Things won't change after all" is her half jokingly acknowledging that Clark and Lana are drawn to each other, no matter who they're dating or whether they're still in school or not. Chloe's attitude towards Clark's romance with Lana (and Lois) was always "critical" in a "You like each other, get together already" way. It wasn't mean spirited. Unless you were offended by her grabbing Clark's arm at the end, which is something girl friends of boys do a lot. At least they used to back in the day. As far as the show is concerned, Chloe's relationship with Clark became clearly friendly as far as back as episode 3.11. A season and a half prior.

@Costas22 i don't need to look for reasons lol she behaves that way the ENTIRE series except for a handful of specific times, and doesn't stop til basically the end of S10. I actually never wanted to dislike Chloe, I remember her character from the WB/CW previews during the live-run so when i started the show i was really excited to get to know her. and then she opened her mouth. it literally shocked me how awful her dialogue was (like a Buffy-Willow hybrid wannabe) and it's not even the actress (although Alison did choose to portray Chloe's desperation a little too hard the 1st 3 seasons) cuz every time Chloe plays a different character or a possessed character, she does a good job. Chloe is just so extra. that comment she makes about somethings never changing was totally passive-aggressive. it wasn't about Clark's undying affection for Lana, cuz she pulls that same crap w literally every single other love interest (or potential) he has. and actively tries to block him and Lois on multiple occasions. she only settles down when she starts getting laid by I mean attention from Oliver.

@Costas22 I mean i gave her a lot of credit for her behavior in Blank. If she hadn't had months to process his secret, or if it happened even a year prior she may have taken advantage and tried to influence him. like, if you wanna compare it to HIMYM, Ted always held a torch for Robin and that was pretty much unrequited for 7 of 8 years. BUT the difference is he liked her AND dated her. even when she did pull away (the way Clark did in S1 finale) Ted pursued Robin mostly in an appropriate not entirely unwanted way. but Chloe's jealousy manifests as if they had dated as if she has the right to obsess cuz at one point his heart belonged to her. .which it never did. He had an attraction, that was fueled by being flattered she liked him, and once that flame went out he had zero desire to ever light it. lol I'm sure it's a losing battle for me cuz now that Chloe knows, and at least in public backs off Clark, the fan base forgives her behaviors and motivations. I'm probably the only one who still notices her attitude. lol maybe just it's still new for me, even though I'm on my 3rd watch technically I've only had like 6-8 months to digest the show 😅

Some random little details that I appreciate about this episode: *During the opening, I love the camerawork when Chloe comes out of the torch and it catches her from above, and just the way it follows her through the hallway - I thought that was cool. Also the shot at the very end when it shows them walking together from behind and far away; that's not a shot we see often, and I enjoyed it. *The actress who plays the admin lady handing out cap/gowns - I thought it was funny how, in both the episodes she's in, her main lines include yelling, "Chloe Sullivan!" (her other episode was "Spirit" where she announced homecoming queen). *At the end when Chloe runs up to walk with Clark & Lana, and she grabs Clark's arm. It's just very 'high school' feeling, and it was a nice touch because I feel like we don't often get to see them just act like normal teenagers.

There were 3 storylines in this episode. *Regular freak of the week which was very creepy to me. Allison was really good in this part, really convincing. *Luthers Vs. Teagues searching for the stones which I don't really care about although every one of them is a great actor. *And Clark's choice to stay close to home and all the scenes with his parents that were really good and wholesome. Although there is obviously a supernatural element to the show, it is very human and relatable especially when you watch it as a teenager. I will give this episode half a rose.

Can i just say Michael and Tom really haven't aged that much. I think Tom and Michael still look like they are in their 30s and should do a Smallville one off movie. Tom as Superman officially would be so amazing to see and Michael as President Lex. Such a wonderful idea

I remember not liking the new sheriff when I first saw her but then being so angry and sad when they killed her off. Also, even if this episode is a bomb for me, I can relate to the uncertainty and the sadness when high-school is finished.. I myself cried rivers on my last day with all my friends, knowing we won't be all together ever again...

This is one of my favorite episodes, particularly for its last scene. I first watched it as I was drawing near to the end of high school. I had a close circle of friends and felt a similar strong sense of anxiety about the future, the potential loss of close friendships, and a desire to hold on to whatever good things that had been formed over the past several years. I knew/dreaded I would never quite relive or experience anything like my high school years ever again. The conversation between Chloe, Clark, and Lana at the end in conjunction with the song Around the Way struck my heart.

I guess I was somewhere in the middle at the end of high school, a little sad but not too sad. But the last scene DEFINITELY stood out as being well done and capturing the vibe. Helps that it was serious and personal unlike the very clunky random FOTW metaphor of the main story haha.

CAMILLE AT LAST! What a delightful person she is! I loved hearing her stories, especially the circumstances of Sheriff Adams' death. I wish they kept her around longer. 🙁 But she did have one of the most badass lines before her death: "Ain't that a mother...".

@32:00 Glad Camille Mitchell mentioned this a lot of actors don't return for their death scene especially if it was sprung up them, meaning no build to their death like Sheriff Adams which came out of nowhere. A good example is Margo Kidder she didn't return to shot her death scene, so writers just stated that she was dead lol. They even filmed a foot of someone lol and told us it was her character.

The Smallville House of Wax episode. Generally whenever the writers were struggling with ideas, they reached out to other cinematic franchises to help supplement the shows. The House of Wax remake was also coming out around the same time this episode aired. Given how poorly that movie performed, it probably wasn't a good idea to use that as the basis for an episode.

Tom made me laugh when he said he kept looking at the clock every five minutes or so. I give this episode 1 bomb. My last and maybe only other bomb was the episode "Lucy". I can already tell you that, even though I like Season 4, the season finale could have been better. Several things go unexplained. However, I really like seasons 5 and 6. It was great having the sheriff on this Talkville episode. Thank you so much again!
