Great video, so helpful!!! I am looking for some help with the velcro portion. I could be messing this up but the clear window has a 1inch strip of velcro and it sits inside the privacy flap which has 1.5inch velcro, which would total 2.5 inches total of velcro but the Velcro you are using is 2inches, how did that all work? Your help is much appreciated!!!

Hey great question. I’m not sure what it was but it summed out to 2 inches total not 2.5. It was probably 3/4 inch for one and 1 and 1/4 for the other. I made the thinner section but ripping the larger 2 in wide peice in half. Glad you like the videos!

Tim, I've studied the way you did the windows and have made the vinyl and privacy screens, including the velcro. But as I prep that bottom seam and do the fold up, and get ready to sew, it's obvious I have too many layers in the corners. If I were to proceed, the closed panel would show layers and not a clean vinyl look like yours. I'm sure I'm doing something wrong. Any other videos, tips, etc.?

Hi There. So glad you are finding the videos helpful. It is hard to figure out exactly what is wrong via just words. If there is a photo floating around if your issue, give me a link but Ill try to help here too. My guess i one of two things is happening. 1. You are not folding the bottom seam in the right direction. Notice how I folded over once, then folded it up. It really does fold over on itself many, many times. Rewatch starting at 13:30 to see if everything is really aligned the way it should be. 2. Are you talking about the corners? I just glued patches over them to hide the edges? Check it out in part 3. Linked right at the 264 second mark where I (my wife) did the patching job. kzitem.info/news/bejne/uqujvmSgq3dzhJw Hopefully one of these two responses helped. Let me know and best of luck.

Hi Tim! Thank you ssooo much for these detailed videos! I'm about to start the canvas portion of my custom truck camper and am wondering how you were able to keep the canvas square while cutting out such long lengths? I thought about using a cut edge from the factory as a guide and measuring off that but I am not confident that the factory edge is totally square (or square enough for this purpose). Would love your feedback on that if possible. And, I'm thinking of omitting the clear vinyl and just using the mesh, my hope is that will make that lower seem sewable with a domestic "heavy duty" sewing machine. As that's all I have access to. My other option would just be to hh-66 everything together.

Hey. Glad you like the videos and are finding them helpful. Be sure to head over to my site and order a sticker if you want to say thanks. Tgmorrissey.com For the square question, honestly I was complete oblivious to the need for things to be square and things turned out alright. When then canvas was installed it might have had a bit of twist in it and maybe that was from my lack of attention to square sweeping. But it could have also been a bad instal job on my part . So really know useful info to give you there. Per the screen, you could try it, depends on your use. We did a lot of cold weather when we wanted the light but not the air. If you are warm weather and Will want the air too; I could see it working well. But do no it can feel like a cave without the windows open. Others have mentioned just gluing the entire thing too, no sewing. No one has ever followed up to let me know if it worked or not, but I think it’s a decent idea. Rafts are made with just glue and they go through hell. Good luck. Enjoy.

Hey Tim, Great Job! I chatted with you years back on the forums about the EMT lift. Mine still works great and I use a few hydraulic lifts on the outside. SO much better. Patched my canvas, but now its time to actually sew up a new one. How high did you end up going with the sidewall. Any issues with it being taller or the material folding in properly? I am concerned about putting the seams on the front corners like original(due to wind driven moisture), do you think it could be done with seams in a different place, or just H66? Lastly, you did 2 big windows per side. Knowing the amount of work you put into each window would it be worth doing 1 longer window per side? Any other hindsight tips you could offer before I get started? Thanks, Awesome Job.

Hi there. Glad to reconnect. For height I actually just had this conversation with another viewer on part 1 of these series, pulling it over here too: "I think originally I had 24 inches of gain for a total of 5’10” of headroom. Now I have 6’7” of headroom. So it now pops up like 33 inches or something like that. If you check out my part 2 or 3 I am sure somewhere I talk about it. The extra headroom is rad. A big thing for me was being able to sit upright in bed. I think that I a major milestone after the ability to just stand up right in the camper. Let me know if you have more questions." Extra material and folding. I do have to walk around and tuck the material in on the sides, but it isn't a major hassle and i think folks are doing that with stock heights too so I would so this is a non issue. Seam location and moisture: I get a bit of moisture up front I drive through a really bad storm (like a downpour) but mostly I am 100% fine. I 'painted' all my seams with hh-66 too which I think helps seal. Though the hh-66 yellowed in the sun which I don't love. I do think purely hh66 would work for the seam with no sewing, but you will just want to make sure you get everything lined up really nicely. Windows I love the four windows. Certainly, 1 window could work just fine too but if they are big they might get a bit unruly. Honestly, the 3 and 4 windows hardly take any time compared to figuring out the first one so I would say it won't save all that much time (though some for sure). I like the four windows and would not change it, but to each their own. Tips, just dive into it, make sure you have a sewing machine up for the task, and you will be sure to learn a lot. Stop back in here if you have more questions and also be sure to peruse the comments in all three videos as we have had a lot of great discussions a tips from others. Best of luck!

Your videos are GREAT and I love your honesty. I'm a quilter and had to laugh at your "I don't know why but look it up" attitude. That's the perfect DIY answer!!! Just an FYI if you ever do another sewing project. Anytime you use a bunch of bias tape(which is basically pressed glue) I keep a bottle of rubbing alcohol next to my machine as I'm sewing. I periodically take a cotton ball and wipe down my needle as it will get sticky and then the thread will jam. It keeps the bobbin from getting gross too. I also sew a little slower cause the speed creates heat which turns the glue into a mess. That fold seam you did is exactly how jean seams are sewn. It gives a perfect finished look - GREAT JOB!

@@tgmorrissey I had an older pop-up camper trailer from the 1980's that I once planned to re-habilitate with some sewing work, and other required replacement of old broken parts. However, the totality of the work was not going to be worth the effort when I looked at the higher quality campers that are now available, as well as my evolving desire to go with a truck camper. In the midst of my old video habits when I was studying sewing, and my new research into truck campers, the KZitem algorithm wisely figured that I would be interested in your video. I've sewn all my own camping gear for years and am ready to build a camper for my truck (tired of the ground). so far, only one question - why did you cut each piece out of the roll and then sew it back together? why not leave it one long piece and measure out where the windows would go? no judgement, just a question. You are giving me confidence to build my own once I can access to my shop!
@tgmorrissey

Hey Bill. Great question about the cutting. Namely just because that is what the originally canvas had so I figured it was a good idea. But really it was to make it easier to work with. trying to sew four windows on one massive piece would have been a crazy headache. It is really a bear to manage all that material. In hindsight, I could see how just two pieces would work nicely, but the stitching is holding up nicely so far so no issues here. The windows are the tricky part for sure, the straight verticle stitches are easy peasy compared. What type of project do you have in mind?
