Hi Randy, Been awhile. Thanks for the eraser video & good camera angles so we can see what the heck is going on. Loved seeing the finished frets but really liked the seeing the ones right after crowning (lets me know I am on the right track). I loved the tip on cleaning these erasers THANKS. I also bought a set from Philad... Luthier 180 400 and 1000 (HOSCO products) which are good. I also like the micro mesh packs for final polishing. It is April 19th 2023, so I quess we all have made it through the virus. May the force be with you & keep smiling

thank you man I appreciate that! I guess I should be good at it because I do it so much. people send and bring me guitars from all over just to get frets dressed (or replaced) and a house that never sleeps set up, so in the words of Mohammad Ali, "I MUST be the greatest!" LOL!

Randy, I was using a similar rubber block with grit in it 50yrs ago in the sheet metal industry. We used 'em to polish stainless steel after welding. They were called Sandflex and in fact I bought a set from Woodcraft when I was over in Nashville last year. They only did coarse medium and fine and I don't know what grit they were but they were cheaper than ScrewMac !

@@RandySchartiger If you ever need more, I have “Baroque” brand which were much cheaper. I don’t know how they compare to SM as far as quality since I haven’t tried SM’s erasers. The Baroques seem nice to me, but again it’s my first time using ANY fret erasers. I do plan to order the two highest grits from Stewmac since the Baroque set doesn’t include them. Stay safe.

Hi Randy - I too am using fret rubbers and LOVE them. I noticed in the video that I use the rubber differently to you. To make it easier I round off the edges/corners and then start a groove in the centre with a knife. After a few strokes the rubber snugly fits around the fret and it makes it much much easier to keep polishing 👍🏻

Hi Randy, I have heard the news and unfortunately I know that things have become difficult there too. I always wonder why, seeing what was happening here in Italy and knowing that it was a pandemic, the governments of many countries. even Europeans, have not taken this matter more seriously by intervening as soon as possible with the rules, to prevent the virus from infecting so many people. We have been at home for many weeks and we go out only for health reasons or to buy food, and when I go out, I wear a mask and rubber gloves. This nightmare will also end, but for the moment, everything is so terrible. Stay healthy and safe my dear friend! Cristina

For years ive been using a standard ink (grit) rubber followed by a standard pencil (non grit) rubber bought from the local supermarket! Not sure what size grit it is but they work a treat, cheap as chips and quick! The Stewmac 7 pack looks like a great set just a tad expensive ($92.53 + del Australian or $13.22 + del each if you want to buy separately) but can get a 3 set (supposedly made in Japan) here in Australia for around $28 inc del online. I might just move away from the pencil case type. lol. "EVERYONE BE SAFE WITH WHATS GOING ON PLEASE"

Thanks for another FINE video Randy! And to hear the KZitem Queen is a great gift! Those erasers seem to work great and if you say they do then we know for sure! Man those mirror frets you just about need sunglasses to look at! Slick and pretty! May be you can get a giant eraser to rub out Earl! But could you hold him still enough long enough? We're stocked up here and all is well. I'm glad it's spring instead of the middle of winter though. Thanks again Randy and Blessings to All at THTNS! DaveyJO

Thanks for showing Randy. There is a company called Cratex that makes basically the same product for industrial uses. They come in about every shape size and grit that you can imagine. They also make wheels and cones that you could use on a dremel. I don't know about the price difference just thought that I would mention it.

I’m sold on the erasers. I’ve been wondering how efficient they were. I do think they need a 1500 grit I mean that’s one of my main grits that I use. I will definitely have to get a set for my next guitar kit I put together but I don’t think it will be anytime soon. Stupid virus shut my work down so...everything is pretty much messed up. Stay safe everyone and pray this stuff ends soon.

Love those things! I bought the cheaper Japanese made set off Amazon. Man they make cleaning frets so much easier! The ink of mine wore off over time...finger oil , general use or whatever causes it. I started writing the grit number on the side with a marker as that happens. Otherwise I'll forget which one is which...

Well Randy now we'll have to see just how long they last, maybe they wont be expensive in the long run. I bought the disc version of them you put on a dremmel tool they work good but extreme caution is prescribed.

How do they handle on the lowest setting? I may yet go manual for everything but the polishing compound at the end, cause I can see 220 destroying a level job within seconds on high but there's a good range on the nicer dremels.

First you groove the disc on the edge of something metal so it gets the sides and dosen't walk off the fret protect the board with fret guards and when the groove gets to deep ron on an anvil to bring it shallow again. Don't stop on frets ,one side too the other smoothly , no pressing down.

Just under 60 bucks for a set of em. How many guitars does the set tend to run you before they're done? Esp with stainless vs nickel? I use stainless on my builds cause it pays off within 5 to 10 years with the lack of maintenance or them getting "fuzzy", but I'm looking at 10 dollars or more in tools per guitar from the way they destroy my cutters, crowning files, and so on; so I'm always cautious when I see something convenient but pricey.

It's 9 months later Randy how are the eracers holding up? And dose the grit go deep into the rubber so you can cut them to a fresh surface? Wouldn't that be slick !!!

I have used the guts out of them and they barely show any wear! the grit must go deep into the rubber because they still work just like they did brand new! I'll never go back to sandpaper! thanks Jim!

Hey Randy, the SM erasers are 8.16 each. I found another brand had a three set for 8.45. I thought the SM mac ones going up to 8000g would leave the fret polished like the semichrome does. So it seems like you could go only as far 1000 and then use the semichrome with very good results. Just wondering, thinking out loud I'm thinking of buying some but not sure I need the whole set. Of course the whole set gave you very nice results.
@RandySchartiger

I started to go with a cheaper non-SM set. I will try going up to 1000 grit and let you know, that does make sense, and then top them off with the semi-chrome. thanks for tuning in brother!
