In an actual off grid, or perhaps, post grid situation, when you run out of that valuable propane, you can bake both your lovely looking dessert at the same time as the biscuits in the Dutch oven on the rocket stove. Use round pie plates or cake pans. Set one on the bottom of the Dutch oven and rig up an appropriate spacer to set the other pan above. Then rotate half way thru. Guaranteed you won't have to wait an hour to bake that fantastic dessert. Then while the Dutch oven is still hot, do your corn. Wonderful video, I can see you're a very good cook on the fly. Have you ever cooked on a wood burning range? We are inspired Pam, by your creativity and ability to demonstrate for us. Thank you.

If you want your biscuits brown on top when baking in that oven, you can flip them over half way through baking. I've made biscuits in a cast iron skillet when camping and using a Coleman stove for decades by flipping them that way.

Great video! You could put a sock on the faucet to keep yourself from using it. When we had boil water alerts I did that to keep us from forgetting that we couldn’t ingest the water and put tape over the refrigerator water tap and ice. After several of these alerts is when I bought my Berkey and we love it.

Yumm! Ok, I admit it. I am binge watching! Despire being in my 70s and a lifetime canner/dehydrator/baker, you showed me a fabulous new trick. Using egg powder mixed with water for my egg wash! Ingenious. I always have egg powder on hand but have been cracking an egg for my dessert turnover wash. Also, never thought of criss cross weaving the top of my home canned fruit turnovers, but I sure am going to try it out. And yes, my biscuits are always square. I quit adding ClearJel to my fruit pie filling a few years ago, after experiencing the same separation. Now I just spoon drain my fruit directly onto my turnover pastry. Dot with butter, flour, spices, and sugar if desired. Fold (or criss cross!) top over, poke vent holes and airfry/bake. It seems to work perfectly, everytime. Thanks!

Great meal! I love that you practice with your off-grid EcoZoom and propane oven! I also have an EcoZoom and it's fun to use. A tip for you if you don't already know this....if you want to use a cast iron skillet but don't want such direct flame, you can create a 'double boiler' arrangement by putting a different cast iron utensil under the skillet you're using. A griddle, or a smaller cast iron pan both work. Everything you made looks wonderful. Did you know that some Southern cooks make square biscuits? Usually they're made for crowds or restaurants. They don't cut the dough until it's in the pan, and they usually brush the tops with butter. Delicious any way, imo. 😄
