I have had both the Friedman and the LPD, and many other Marshall-in-a-Box pedals. The Friedman sounds like mud. The LPD Eighty7 is in another class, and one of my all time favorites. Another amazing MIAB pedal, which I highly recommend, is the MI Audio Super Crunch Box V2. However, good look in finding one of those. While technically not a MIAB pedal, I would give another shout out to the XTS Winford Drive, which is a modified RAT circuit with a dedicated midrange control...very hot rodded Marshall-esque.

Giving Yourself Away caught my ear! Just need a little 80s grease on it - good sounds as usual! I went from being an "amp distortion only" guy, to now using Bogner pedals (La Grange or Ecstasy Blue depending on what I'm going for) for most of my drive tones, in a pretty short amount of time. Made me feel dumb for being so stubborn.

Do you find the Vol on the Friedman pedals acts like a blend control? The few I've tried seem to mix in a bit of dry, unaffected signal (in an unpleasant way) unless I crank that knob all the way up, making them hard to balance with other pedals. Same thing with Rockett.

I feel like Friedmans are "evolved" Marshalls.. they have tighter low end and not so harsh high end, and that applies to the pedals.. the LPD sounds more like a Marshall, it's more raw, frequencies are harsher idk.. the Friedmans already sound good no matter how you dial them in, they sound polished.

@@davidbuzzin426 I know what is EHX, but you have it written with "us". I quoted it on my PC, but now I look at my comment and I see KZitem automatically put US flag as a part of the word. So on phone and pc comments look different. So you probably was referring to us-made EHX. Ok, got you. In fact, most of the pedals on the market are just clones of each other. If you understand electronics, you can check the schematics and see that there is a probably not more than 10 overdrive /distortin schemes, or even less, the difference between clones are often in small variation of one or few nominals to shift mid peak, or where to cut lows, that will affect also gain structure, etc. And there cannot be the best pedal, as it totally depends on guitar, pickups, amp and speaker that is used. It is impossible to judge a pedal without considering the rest of the chain. One of my favorite pedals on the board is EHX glove, which is a clone of fulltone ocd. The same with amps. Laney Cub you seen in my demo you commented, has a preamp that is a clone of Marshall jcm800. But the amp does not sound as Marshall in stock version, however once you use greenbacks or vintage speakers, you hear familiar tone :) Even here in this demo under which we are commenting, you can hear that jhs and mxr are both matshall in the box with very similar tone, just mxr has more upper mids. It will work better with some amps, and worse with some other.

The small box (and the BE to a lesser extent) has that annoying tube screamer thing going on where you have a clean signal and a super fuzzed signal at the same time. An OK..even good thing for over driving an a,ready dirty amp, but into a clean amp, no bueno. I think into a clean amp thr 87 would be better. But thanks for actually testing like this, most others only demo into a crunch amp, which is good for demoing overdrives not standalone distortions
