I'm assuming some of the layers are there for a supplementary purpose, Therefore it's okay if some aren't really audible right? If so how do you know how to mix this kind of thing where you need space for so many instruments, What do you tend to focus on?, Btw thanks in advance! I really wanted to see this

It saddens me because it's just makes it unwatchable for me and yet I know your teaching fantastic content and have a real gift. I'm sure for those already well informed about the content it's perfect for me it feels as if the video is sped up beyond comprehension! Thank you for taking the time to make this. Hey Alex, percussionist here. Good video, but there's something you really need to consider - while timpani drums are tuned instruments, they can't be tuned rapidly on the fly. Adjusting the pitch of a drum involves using pedals, which take time to adjust, and if you try to adjust the pitch while the drum is ringing out, the note will audibly bend. Generally speaking, you rarely have more than 4 or maybe 5, at a push, drums to work with, so you can't use more than that many notes during a passage (If you think that's limiting, look at composers from the Classical era, who could only work with 2 drums, which were usually tuned to the root and the fifth of the key.) Now let's look at the section at 5:55. You've got 7 different notes being played in one fairly quick passage. Unless the player is surrounded by timpani drums, there is no way in hell that section will be playable live. Think about the timpani drums as an instrument that can accent the main notes being played in the bass line, not an instrument for playing the bass line itself. Under no circumstances should you ever just copy the bass line onto the timpani drums (unless the bass line is very very simple). Yes, in this context, you can do it on your computer with VST and it'll sound great, but what happens if you walk into a live session with a real orchestra and put a part in front of a player that's written like that. All you'll get is a very confused looking percussionist, who'll have to explain to you that the part you've written is impossible to play. Not trying to be rude, just trying to alert you to a very common error you're making. Hope it helps. :)

Hey there PAldous, Thanks for pointing this out. I'm actually aware of that and said that in the original take of the video, however, since I wanted this to be a short video I didn't go so much into detail about all of my choices (regarding timpani as much as everything else). My take is that I don't really care about following rules to that extent since this is in the digital domain and I can go beyond certain limitations thanks to VST. If I were to write for a real orchestra, I would keep that in mind, but since I'm not, there's no point for me. Same goes for my string staccatos and some crazy cello legato lines I write sometimes

Hello! I’m a huge fan of your work (mainly your remix of Rude Buster)! I was just wondering, do you take song requests? And if so, could you make an orchestral arrangement of “Your Best Nightmare” from Undertale? It’s not often you find GOOD orchestral remixes of that song, and I’m fairly certain that you can do it. Thanks in advance!
