I just came back from Iran, we were a group of 5 ladies, 4 Singaporeans and 1 Indonesian. We had a guide for 11 days but for 4 days in Tehran we were on our own. Even on days that we had a guide we sometimes wondered on our own. We were overwhelmed with Iranians hospitality. We felt very safe too (I’m a Singaporean, one of the safest country in the world and I felt safe in Iran) . The men were also respectful of women. Iran was so beautiful and clean (we covered south and North Iran). We made a few iranian friends both Muslims and non Muslims. People go out of their way to help us even without us asking whenever they felt we were lost. We saw a lot of Europeans and Chinese tourist. There was also a Japanese lady tourist who was travelling on her own and without any guide. No one bordered that we were Sunnis praying in a Shia mosque, instead the ladies waited patiently for us to complete our prayers so that they could talk to us. The men were not paranoid when we accidentally entered and exited at the men’s side of prayer area. I can go on and on, on how wonderful Iran is but I’ll stop here.. I think it’s obvious that those men outside your tent were just offering to help, I don’t think your accusation is fair. You need to try harder to make them look bad.

@@user-221i people weren't just kind and respectable and hospitable to her because she was in a group. 5 lady's get their hospitality and one doesn't? If they wanted to be mean and show their "true colors" they still could easily do it to a group..She isn't the one with low iq you know!😅 Also as an iranian i know that people in smaller cities or villages have no concept of why anyone (specially a lady) would sleep by a road alone..they may think that they need help. In some parts more traditional people would ever get offended that a stranger or a "guest" would sleep out like that and try to invite them to their home. She needs to at least learn something about the culture of the place she's visiting. And as a matter of fact, no matter were you live in this world..camping alone(at least in a non camping area) is never completely safe for a woman(even men)..wise people make precausions.

Just a small logical friendly reminder: Before you go to a place just do a little bit of research and educate yourself about their culture, values, Dos and Don'ts and if you choose to go, to be on the safe side, don't pass their red lines and limitations. And after you did your research, if you don't like it, just simply choose another place to go which can cope better with your standards. After all, there are over 200 countries on the map. You expect to put your home country in your back pack and go wherever you like. You do not go to see new places and learn new things. You go to measure them with your own scale. If you like the size you praise them and you are happy and if not you fill yourself (and most importantly only yourself) full of negative feelings. For this kind of attitude I suggest you to stay where you are and experience what you like. Don't travel... Your judgements stop you from seeing the good in new circumstances and new cultures.

I say that from experience. If you were in a city and were treated like that then that would be a major cultural issue but no one really controls anything or enforce anything in the middle of nowhere. I'm from south America and if you camp in a public place or private area you could be arrested and send back to your country (if you got luck and don't be kidnapped), it's better to investigate first... specially in a country with restrictions for women. I believe Iran has only women beaches were they can enjoy themselves. Before to make any judgement, It's better to investigate local laws, costumes, places, etc to know if you can do these things you're used to do as a western traveler.

Unfortunately, that reaction and mindset simply plays directly into the hands of the (political & religious) hardliners, who don't want dual citizens to even consider returning with their capital and skills and ideas. This is so the Revolutionary Guards can maintain a relative monopoly over business large & small. High profile people with money have mostly stopped returning, so the only way to sustain a general sense of fear is to target lower profile people, like this very brave woman, who I'm sure is much more aware of the situation than she lets on, or like recently released Matthew Trevithick.

For swimming in bikinis, there's always Caribbean and mediterranean beaches which are way cheaper than travelling to Iran. But in terms of whether women like the hejab rules or not, they don't. But for them there are more important issues that ultimately cover the hijab issue among many others, such as democracy and civil society. For instance 60% of Iran's university graduates are female which id, in and of itself, a dynamic force for future social changes. Nonetheless, Iran is work in progress and should not be compared to European societies in many respects.

I am Italian and absolutely loved Iran and Iranian people are just adorable. I do not share the same frustration and frankly speaking I have had enough of women going out half naked in Europe. It is becoming too much. For the sake of clarity am not a religious person and I am not a bigot. Many westerners are outraged at seeing women wearing the chador but when a girl walks in the street in Europe or US dressed like a prostitute that is fine (cool/ modern/ liberal) right? I was happy to be wearing modest clothing and to see how kind people are and thoughtful whereas in Europe they are so cold in comparison...you are lucky if they invite you to their home our for a cup of coffee whereas Iranians are so hospitable and generous. They are like Italians 40 years ago in terms of hospitality and friendship, including family relationships. Sadly these days we have lost these values in many homes. This is the price for modernization.

Travelling is full of ups and downs , confusion, and learning, joys, exhilaration and also disappointments - especially on a trip like Nora's .., Often our minds have trouble keeping up with all thats happening around us. It is easy to notice that Nora films each day while taking in everything 'new and discovered' that each days travel presents itself .., and she comments 'whats fresh on her mind at the time ' > I will say that again > 'WHATS FRESH ON HER MIND AT THE TIME' and what she is thinking there and then (to which she is entitled - to feel and think) ..., Her comments in these videos are not a rehearsed , they are not pre-planned , they are not thought out and thoroughly edited for political correctness, nor an outright attack on anyone , she is just voicing what she thought at the time and how she sees it "compared to what she is used to and understands from her culture an experiences - life is a learning curve that never stops. What upsets me .., is 'nothing' said by Nora about her trials and tribulations encountered and 'experienced' as a young woman on a solo motorcycle journey around the world, venturing through many strange and exotic remote foreign lands. The upsetting part ...., is the comments by those attacking Nora for her for lack of pre-planned political correctness > while disregarding ALL or even some the points mentioned above. These attacking comments IMO, only shows an Immaturity and lack of vision on your part. There is also lots of ugly, vile, sick, and internal hate radiating and resonating out from many commenters..., that only can reflect back on them personally deep down as people and who they really are .., to which I can only hope that one day they can learn to love themselves and those around them 'everywhere' regardless of boarders.

You were lucky nothing really bad happened to you as there are psychos out there like any other countries in the world. - Your hate speech is actually very disgusting. We try our best to be as hospitable and caring to our guest as possible. from early age our parents teach us the importance of showing care and love to guest and its something we grow up on. - about the plastic bottles on the beach , Yes its very shameful and unfortunate some citizens do that. You called our beaches disgusting and you only point bad things about Iran and our people . Let me tell you some bad things about your county then: I was walking in Central Amsterdam and someone ( white ) stoled my EarPods from behind and ran sooo fast i couldn't catch him. people watched it and did nothing about it even they could have helped me caught him. on weekends , the central Amsterdam is absolutely disgusting! HIGH level prostitution , STD'S , Drugs , Beer bottles on the floor, Smell of PISS everywhere , some people vometing and in my opinion this is WAY more disgusting than a plastic bottle on the beach . However i don't let this negative side effect me and i enjoyed my time so much in Netherlands. its easy to point out bad things only. It's extremely rare and almost impossible to see a dutch person invite you to their home instantly . but those family at the end showed their love & care to you and trusted to have you at their home even without really knowing you.

"Baayad Bekhaabam=I must sleep", or "Lotfan Tanhaam Bezaarin = Please leave me alone". 3. Regarding the final 2 minutes of your video, "How come if everyone doesn't like it.... Hi Hesam, thank you for your comment, although not very positive. First of all, I didn't know the color red had such strong annotations in Iran, I have been here for three weeks and nobody has told me this so far. Nobody can see from the outside of the tent that there is a girl inside, this probably would have also happend with a guy. I just felt more threatened as a girl. I have been camping for three months in Central Asia, where people were also amazed by the girls on the motorcycle, but this has never happend to me before. I also just spent three months learning Russian, and could speak with locals a little. I am now finding it hard to switch to learning a new language, especially Farsi. But I am really trying and asking people to teach me new words. Finally, no, I do not watch the news, because I feel it doesn't reflect what the situation is really like in a country. The news only shows the negative sides. If I would have believed the news, I would have probably never traveled to Iran because I would have thought it wasn't safe enough. I try to travel with an open mind and not be negatively influenced by mass media. As I said in my previous video, I had high expectations of Iran, which also means there is a higher chance of being disappointed. That is exactly what happend, my expectations where different from reality, and I needed to talk about it in order to move on and be positive the next day. Hope this gives a little bit of backgound. Cheers, Nora

- well, if you had asked any Iranian in Europe or online you would have been told Iran does not have a network of official campgrounds yet. and is not ready for that kind of tourism. -There are beaches exclusively for women and if you had borrowed a chador you could have done skinny dipping if you wanted to. Also you could have changed in your tent, I guess :) - completely agree with you about the filth on the beach. but I am experiencing that in Thailand too. Hope the rest of your trip goes better.

I am realy sorry to say this , do not get me wrong i love Persians , i am arab and i feel some Persians have issue with the west in the sense that they have to justify to them everything they do and to be sorry for what I don’t really know what is it , and this is obvious from a lot of comments here this lady came to your country. She should have know what are the rules and have a general idea about the culture and what she can do what she cannot do as a woman staying in a tent in nowhere this is a big risk. I am sure if she were in US and she had an argue with someone in nowhere where she was at. She would not argue with them because she would know she might end up………. Because violence there is very high, but she knows that people are very, very nice here and it is safe. Otherwise she wouldn’t have done what she did what she did is categorically wrong. And disrespectful. If you yourself like the law or not i as a foreigner i should respect these rules otherwise, you would not like it from me

Ignore those negative comments from mindless creatures. They see it so one-sidedly. For example, placing a tent so close to the road could be interpreted as thinking that people are so friendly and very hospital. In other words, knowing the culture. So, how it's wrong to be annoyed (or even scared) that the same people at night came multiple times to poke the tent... Another thing is that Nora obeyed the culture. She still dressed how she supposed to and even went swimming with clothes on because that was the only way. She showed respect to the culture. The commentators here do not. Binge watching your videos, they are great :) P.S. I wait for the day those women can be equal to men.

I wouldn't expect the criminals to be friendly too :) . If those men were criminals, they wouldn't ask permission to hurt her, they wouldn't try to communicate. It's very odd to setup a tent just in the middle of nowhere . Also in southern countries people are a bit more curious.

I dont get why you dident go to a womens beach? There your skin would be able to "feel the water". And it is quite normal in Iran that people wount let you be "alone". They find it as their obligation to stay by your side. And when you are in the public in iran, like on the road, Iranians feel that they have as much as right to the place as you do. Fx camping right next to your tent. Instead screaming you could just have taken your stuff and drove somewhere else. about the pollution i totally agree with you.

Well. I kinda feel sorry for your bad camping experience. I don't think that these people who were poking you had any bad intention. Had you been a guy travelling alone, probably the same would have happened. I think these people were only curious, and for many understandable reasons. 1-You're a foreigner. 2- Travelling on a motorcycle. 3- You happen to be a woman. Then you got scared, possibly for a reason. Perhaps getting out of tent and presenting yourself would have lead to a different situation. We'll never know. Live and learn. Also, remember that Iran used to be a "modern" country with huge Western influence (some would simply call it British and US colonialism). Sadly under that corrupted governance under the Shah, all wasn't necessarily great, and it prompted some form of nationalism, which sadly came with a side order of religious orthodoxy. Don't be fooled, Iranians don't enjoy it either. And also remember that Iranians have suffered a lot under Western embargo, one that even killed half a million kids and toddlers from malnutrition... Basically, one cannot travel to Iran without understanding its history. ;-)
@Nora_adventurism

You are right, we'll never know, I just felt safer staying in the tent. I did know parts of this history, that before the revolution, it was a different country. But your comment made me read up a little more, loved this video (kzitem.info/news/bejne/ma1qsalspWmAeH4), and his quote at the beginning "The Truth resist Simplicity". If feels like most of the people who joined the revolution, were unhappy with the situation, but didn't necessarily wanted a strict muslim state. The results of their protesting turned out quite different from what they were hoping for. But I can also be wrong. Your last quote however, also made me google (the one about malnutrition among children), but I think you might be mistaken here with Iraq. I'm not saying, Iranians haven't suffered from the embargo, but I cannot find any source that states the death of so many children. Anyway, I do enjoy talking to people here and discovering what their life looks like, which also makes me appreciate my own country and the European Union more and more. I am grateful to benefit from the legacy that all the people before me, who have fought for the rights for woman, and that I never had to fear that I could not achieve whatever I wanted.

Hey nora i totally loved ur videos ur doing a great job and puting effort in making these vlogs,,,and also i should thank u for ur kind honesty which had quite an impact on me as a 17 year old iranian from mashhad ;) but there are a few things i really must tell u ,,,plz plz plz be patient and read them and excuse me for being boring and talkalot :First : in both southern and northern coasts there are several facilities built for women next to sea where they can freely go and swim in the "ocean" with bikini or anything they want and men do not have access to them so there wont be any guys around to bother,,,so yeAh if u only had the right person with u im damn sure in most cases u wouldnt have to go through all the frustration u faced .there are many "getways" to have a nice time in iran for women pity u didnt get to know...Second : there r many laws in iran which seems to be rather unfair, unreasonable and just annoying and asking around makes ur mind really starts to believe how anti democratic they are which is an idea that crossed my mind as well but the thing is,honestly i did a lotta researches in them and i found out that even tho many do not support those laws,,,the majority does, its all a very complicated scenario...Third : there is absolutely no excuse for the condition of iranian nature,,,how dirty it has become and no one gives a damn about it,its the most unfortunate thing and i am deeply sorry and,,,jus,,,(single tear)its because of some cheep people with poor culture , and as theyr unfortunately my countrymen i have nothing to say,,,sham, just shame on us,,,again, iran is NOT a country to be going to with our an iranian contact to be with the who,e way,can be hell of alot more fun that way,,, Heres all the love and support i can give for ur quality vids and open heart ✌️

Found your comment, and I thank you for it. I wish I had know about the beaches, but I didn't. Maybe in a next visit I can go there. I guess as a traveler you will always be in a kind of traveler bubble, meaning I can only talk to the people who speak English. This is probably not a good representation of the entire population. You are right, an entire country cannot be simplified to the politics or politicians they have, any such situation is always going to be complex with multiple views and opinions. The state of nature was maybe what made me extra sad and also a angry because I would drive behind a car, they would open the window and throw out their trash. The fact that people would rather throw their trash in nature that to save it and throw it away at home was just hartbreaking to me. And it is so easy to do! I understand that if you live in an extreme remote area it is harder, but these were people who own a car (which I understand are really expensive in Iran) so they are not poor, but still do not have the mindset to take care of our planet. I hope we all soon can find solutions together to save our planet, our spaceship, from this plastic mess. Stay positive!

Not sure if you are still reading up these comments, but I do understand your frustration. I know you are trying to advocate the human rights, It is just what it is and you have to respect the rules anyway. We are welcoming, friendly, and love tourists a lot, but we tend to be sometimes very awkward and disrespect privacy when it comes to interacting with visitors (Ex, the assholes poking your tent and the ladies who kept staring at your camera at the beach). Again, it depends where in Iran you are solo traveling too because some regions are less developing than others, and I feel you were randomly biking around in the country. You might have had a better experience if you were traveling with a guide.

From IRAN: In Rome act like Romans. You know so little about Iran. Just enjoy the hospitality of our kind and compassionate people. One note: when your ancestors were still in the trees or caves in Europe, our poets and authors were putting out prose and poems on philanthropy and brotherhood among all human beings. And, on Iranian women and your lack of understanding and insensitivity: women and men in Iran are NOT equal. This IS VERY true. In Iran, men and women are NOT equal. From around 5,000 years ago (as it is clear from ancient stone tablet writings), those things that "life grows out of them" are considered sacred. Both mother nature (soil, seed, water, sun - all required for growth of vegetation) and women are considered sacred. Women are held to a different standard than men, somewhat closer to creation and Creator. That is why a famous saying in Iran says: "Heaven is under the feet of women (mothers)." This means they are so close to the Creator that a place has been guaranteed and reserved for them in the after-life heaven. That is NOT the case for men. Men have to engage in so many good deeds and help and assist the poor, hungry, and oppressed throughout their life. Then, maybe, only maybe they will get a place in after-life heaven. Also within the family structure, Iranian women wield much more authority than their Western counterparts. That is one of the reason that punishment for "raping a woman" in Iran is DEATH. However, if you murder a man, if the killer can convince the victim's family to forgive, then the killer just gets a few years of prison and then be freed. In cases of raping a woman, the killer does not have ANY recourse.

You were lucky you weren't mugged, raped or robbed. let's face it, I'm an Iranian and I believe 90% of the land area in Iran could be considered SHITHOLE . The only places I would consider visiting as a native are, Tehran, Isfahan, Mashad, a few southern islands, and the northern provinces on the coast of the Caspian sea. Beware of the guys vomiting words about how great our ancient civilization once was some thousands of years ago and certainly don't buy the idea that Iran is a safe place because for the most part it's not.
