Can I use the 360 one instead? As that says it lasts 12 months and will only be in storage 6 months a year

On a daily basis I'm often questioned about classic cars and modern fuels. 1) Material compatibility, for which I 100% agree with the comments in your video and the many replies below. Ethanol is by nature hygroscopic....ie it actively attracts and absorbs water from the atmosphere via tank breathers carb overflow pipes etc etc. The more ethanol present, the worse the scenario. Once the moisture has been attracted in chemical reactions start to take place, and material compatibility issues soon arise. Also, adding moisture to a fuel does not improve how a fuel burns, in fact exactly the opposite....it makes it more difficult to ignite. It's February here in the UK right now, in a couple of months those with a petrol lawnmower will soon sympathise with what I'm saying. A good quality stabiliser as shown in the video can reduce, if not stop these negative effects from taking place. Millers EPS (Ethanol Protection System), Lucas Oils (Fuel Stabilizer) all receive good feedback in the classic car community and are pretty cheap compared to rectifying the negative effects.

Great video. Ive been having good luck with using seafoam to keep things clean and long term storage. Longest was 2 years in a boat tank during covid. The boat started right up.

Would be good to see you do a Practical experiment "SomeHow" .. Am sure if your smart enough you will come up with an IDEA to demonstrate what you believe is true ??? May take a year for you to Show the results ? I just recommend a cap of Paraffin at 1/20th of the price, but hey .. just take my word for it ....

I think the point is here, I don’t believe it’s true, I know it’s true from historical use. I would not recommend it if it did not work. There are known snake oils out there, stabil is not one of them.

Yes, snake oils 😄, I now dont believe anything I hear and only half of what I see ... Evidence however is hard to disrepute 👍👍
Thanks for the tip! My kit car has sat every winter for the past 15 years and starts no problem, but might give this a try as extra insurance. My MGB gets used too much to need it 😂

Hi Ade. My wife's bike started leaking fuel when the petrol tap was turned on after a long lay up. I traced it to gunge in the carbs float valve. The same happened to a mates bike after winter. My own bike which is injected ran like a dog on one cylinder for a while until it cleaned through as well. I discovered STA-BIL storage additive a few years back and use both that for storing and the other type for countering the evil E-10 we get these days at the pumps. No problems since. I run super unleaded these days but for the price of a squirt of Stabil against the cost of refurbing a bank of 4 carburettors - its a no brainer. I bought a 1/2 litre odd for about £12. I use 30mL in my wife's bike and 50mL in mine as I have a bigger 12.8L tank. Worth every penny...

I had to strip the CV carb out of Scouse's girlfriend Lisa's bike (a V twin) to strip it down which was a real pain. Also i have seen the rubber 'o' rings in older bikes fuel shutoff taps perish with E10. The bits get in the carb jets and there you go again. It seems a logical thing to advise your tuning customers to use a good fuel stabiliser. After spending money getting their car tip top tuned it seems silly to have all that loveliness go off the boil because of rank fuel deposits!

Thanks for the heads up AC and just ordered some. I run the car on shell vpower and filled up at the end of September last year. Would it be best to fill tank up again and then add some stabil in and give it a little drive

Never add to old fuel that’s a waste of sta-bil. Use the car use the fuel and fill with fresh. Treat when fresh fuel stays good for a couple of years!!

I've used stabil probably twenty years for winterizing lawn equipment. Zero problems/just works. I also have one engine I have been using Carb Defender on... may tear the carb down in a few months and see how internals look. Main thing for winterizing is that I switch to ethanol free in mid autumn, since the exact week I stop mowing isn't always consistent, plus some years there's a surprise winter month with spring temps and things just need to get done.

This looks good but they don't seem to do it with a lead additive as well from what I can see so its a bit of a disadvantage if the engine is an older classic car and not been converted for unleaded fuel. I started using Castrol Classic Valvemaster which has both the lead additive and ethanol stabiliser combined so can treat all at once. Any thoughts on whether this is as good for stabilising fuel as Sta-bil?

Fuel stabilizer helps some but does not prevent corrosion from Ethanol fuels. Best solution is to use non-ethanol fuel in anything that is not run often.

We don't see that here in the US very much. I think we have different blend fuel. I've seen that kind of carb grime, but in year's old carbs in wet conditions. Most of ours is 10% ethanol. Do use Stabile now and again.

The example show is an extreme one, however I am actually seeing cars with particulate in the fuel system after as little as six months, we also have a very moist climate and this water is finding its way into the fuel systems of cars that are stored a lot.
