The banjo player is Gary Shaw from Appleton Wisconsin. He was paid $50 as a session musician for the day to record this. Menards owns the rights to this song and has quite literally played this millions of times over the years. Gary was always embarrassed when people mentioned the Menards jingle because he was more than just this jingle. He was a LEGEND. He played in many bands in the fox valley and was my Dad's #1 guitarist for his band the Lil Davy Max blues band. I was fortunate enough to know Gary since I was a child. He was the Combo Manager for the now defunct Henri' Music in Appleton. Gary was one of the nicest guys i have ever known and I am happy I got to share the stage with him many times. He was like an uncle to me and I miss him dearly. He unfortunately passed away a few years ago from cancer. A few people had the idea of going to Menards and asking them if they would sponsor a music scholarship in his honor. Last I heard Menards failed to respond at all. RIP Gary Shaw.
@ariabritton9669
4 ай бұрын
We need more than just a few people to get them to do that, because it would be strange on its own for a hardware store to do music scholarships, that just wouldn't make sense. the more people who ask, the more likely they would respond. I doubt that menards would say no if a lot of people asked. they don't seem like a company that would just blatantly ignore the requests of a lot of people, as far as i am aware. we should spread the word about who Gary Shaw was.

Hey, I recently just kicked fentanyl / heroin and during the detox i had a fever dream about this jingle and how it’s almost a subconscious jingle activation code. During the great pilgrimage of the 80s people made to the Midwest to “save big money at menards” like a horror Seinfeld episode or something, People traveling hundreds of miles in the summer just to get 100 packs of hotdog buns for a buck fifty of something. With massive boxes of just useless stuff strapped to the roofs of there cars (pool noodles, or multiple boxes of bbq equipment) that they saved tons and tons of money on but has no use in there real life. That private showing of this menards horror show I experienced was very funny and i will forever think of this jingle and relate it to that!
