Really useful video. For me it's the time difference with no sparge even if you lose some efficiency. Cheers mate and subbed too. 👍🍺

Hi Stuart, finding your vids very helpful and working through them all. Just received my 50L Brewdevil yesterday : ). As a novice I'm getting confused by the numbers for water amounts. I'm going to do some AG kits to get the hang of the equipment. So the first kit I have is a 23 L batch, with a small grain bill (2.91kg). One bit of software I tried says 32L total; 8.07 mash water, 23.86L sparge water. According to your video here perhaps I need to take 8L from the sparge amount and include that in the mash water. So mash would be 16.07, and sparge is more like 15.8 L. I think I like the idea of sparging as opposed to full volume.

gareth jones yeah most kits will assume no or an guess on the dead space say 1L. When it come to tweaking these for the BD50L you have it spot on, just take 8L from the sparge and add it to the mash volume. This is just a starting point and you can adapt this on the fly, a good rule of thumb is have 8L ready to go and maybe take 2L out before mashing in, then if the liquid covers the grain well enough you can just add the 2L back to the sparge. Playing around like this will help you work out a rule of thumb that works for you.
