This video lesson looks at how the damping effects of an automobile’s shock absorbers, brakes and tires can minimize motion and vibration and produce a more comfortable ride. The shock absorbers use viscous damping of an internal fluid, the brakes operate by frictional damping and the tires dissipate energy as they deform in an example of material damping. This lesson is part of the Ansys Innovation Course: Damping Effects.
