I was actually recently diagnosed with the “fungal acne” by a dermatologist ( obviously she didn’t use “fungal acne” but it’s easier to type ) and she prescribed me a anti dandruff shampoo plus a serum for actual acne that I sometimes get on my back and chest, so hopefully that’ll help me because I’ve been dealing with “fungal acne” since almost the start of puberty for me-

Sure, we can split hairs over the definition of acne, but ultimately this type of fungal infection looks pretty similar to acne if you're not a dermatologist. I wanted to improve my skin and bought products that were supposed to make my skin glowly and moisturized.....I woke up the next morning with my face COVERED in mini red dots. Likely all the oil made a breeding ground for fungus. Went back to just salicylic acid wash and a light moisturizer, and was back to normal in a few days. So it's still important to include this when discussing acne as many skincare products will exacerbate it.

This makes so much sense, i used to get this acne and I never realised why hydrating my skin would make it break out. Like i was really into k-beauty which is all about hydration and was so confused about why my skin just seemed to like being so dry. Now I only moisturise once a day with a pretty tacky moisturiser and it keeps my skin perfectly clear. I also live in a humid climate too so I guess I don’t need to hydrate as much anyway.

It's funny because, if you look it up, the National Institutes of Health will tell you that _Pityrosporum_ is now known as _Malassezia_ and that _Malassezia_ folliculitis is a *fungal acneiform condition* commonly misdiagnosed as acne vulgaris. It's pretty well-known that people colloquially use the term "acne" to refer to various skin conditions that present as a combination of pustules and papules, not strictly those caused by _P. acnes._ This seems like a disingenuous correction.

@@cheesegoblin4life Thanks, I guess my point is that I don't know what she expects from laypeople. Does she really want the average teenage tiktoker to say "fungal acneiform condition" instead of "fungal acne"? Is it really that big of a deal that people shorten it to something simpler to say and easier to relate to for a 30-second video, even if not technically correct (and even then just barely)? She's speaking as if it "doesn't exist" when really it does exist and people are simply getting the term slightly wrong.

Just posted that ... The term acne means the occurrence of inflamed or infected sebaceous glands in the skin. Those hair follicles can get filled with Common definitions that are all Acne. *fluid (hormonal acne) *infected fluid (cystic acne) *dirt + oil (acne) *Fungus (fungal acne) *Bacteria (bacterial acne) My dad suffered with fungal acne for years, after visiting many dermatologists who spoke like this lady, it's like they are sure no one reads books 📚 They said there was no such thing... Then we randomly went to a very nice Asian ear, nose, and throat Dr. For al cold my dad has, He prescribed him an anti fungal medication and T-gel wash, with aloe and it was clear in 3 weeks, never returned. The Dr. Explained it is fungal Acne because there is fungus that is inflaming sebaceous glands, this is not yeast we would give an antibiotic for yeast, not an anti fungal medication. My dad 10 years prior, had picked up the fungus in his blood stream by swimming in an old pond. We asked why didn't we come down with it too, because we all swam there too... He explained stronger immune systems will fight off bacteria and fungus. Take 5000 milligrams of vitamin c after swimming in a body of water for two or three days.

You need fungal acne safe products. I got it after antibiotics after a surgery. I started using nizoral 7 months later in hopes to control the dandruff/obvious fungal acne rash in the middle of my face, but things weren't helping because I didn't realise my conditioner and moisturiser were feeding the yeast. Whenever I used my moisturiser, my face would get all itchy because the yeasting was feasting. Same for my conditioner, it's a lot better now and it's starting to get under control for me, but you really need an oral anti fungal alongside topical aid because it takes months to clear it up.@@user-j1spswelskisj

I believe that the terms "Fungal acne" and "FA" are used as they are much easier to remember and type. Plus, they are extensively used by the general population. I personally don't use "Pityrosporum Folliculitis" everytime I want to refer to this condition (it is incorrect not to, I am aware). Also, I am 28 yo and have this condition since I was around 14 yo. I get it everywhere on my face, back of neck, chest and back areas where I have overactive oil glands. I don't use a lot of hydrating or moisturizing products, I use sulphur and piroctone olamine products which are supposed to help. I am very anxious and stressed, so this affects my immune system, which in turn affects the spread of this yeast. My condition is chronic, as it never actually truly left me... so yes, in my anecdotal experience, PF can be a chronic/perpetual condition.

This makes so much sense. I have been diagnosed with Atopic dermatitis for years, but recently I got a bumpy rash in a place and presentation I've never had before, but because around my hairline it looks like very dry skin my dermatologist said it's just the atopic dermatitis. Because of the atopic skin I'm recommended to treat everything with steroids, not using soap cleansers and extremely hydrating and occlusive moisturizers. If the bumps on my chest and back are this "fungal acne" then probably my treatment is making it worse. I'll try going back to using soap and light moisturizers in those areas, if it works I'll tell my dermatologist the treatment is leaving me weak to yeast infections.

The follicultis would return at random for years, but settled to once week every month after I changed birth control brands. I used dandruff shampoo and athlete's foot cream on my chest to try to manage it and keep it from spreading. With a new GP, I finally had an appointment that lined up with my folliculitis cycle and he tried to tell me it could also be bacterial. As someone with fungal acne and a fan of you , I really don’t like how you bashed the existence of it , “fungal acne” as a term might not be liked but it is real , yeast causing inflammation in the hair follicules causing thoses small white pimples that are all shaped the same and gets worst and triggered by comedogenic and oily products ( which as a term we use “not fungal acne safe” ) , which is definitely chronic , I’m a deep skincare internet diver who religiously learns everything about skincare and your videos are literally so insightful and I like the breakdown of many things you do , but with that , I’be created myself all kind of skincare routine from complexe , to simple , to everything from analyzing ingredients , fixing the moisturizing level of my products , NOTHING helped as much as literally putting anti dandruff shampoo as my cleanser , fungal acne safe micellar water , and minimizing moisturizing as I see fit and need , I’ve tried AMAZING skincare products like the BOJ sunscreen which is a DREAM on the skin it’s unbelievable that it’s even a sunscreen it’s just applies like a moisturizer that immediately disappear not smelling and not feeling like anything ! But after 3 hours , the yeast of my skin would have had a 3 course meal consuming the non fungal acne safe oils in the sunscreen , and by the end of it , my whole face is breaking down in the little white itchy pimples , I used the glycolic acid by the ordinary, and again , it is SO good at gently exfoliating you can even use it everyday if you aren’t very sensitive you feel brightened and fresh BUT again , I used to apply it as part of my nighttime routine , by the morning , tiny white red pimples , so I had to give all of thoses amazing products that targeted other concerns of my skin , because of the fungal acne , just dismissing it like that is … idk , I’m pretty sure a yeast causing an inflammation chronically that you have to monitor is pretty present in dermatological researches and diagnosis , so I don’t get this video at all

OH! i've felt like my skin has looked really dull so i've been doing a lot of the usual reccomendations, i use a snail mucin serum which has been great but i still felt like it wasn't enough so lately i've been putting aquaphor on every night. i've also been getting those lil spots on my forehead and nose on one side and thought it was like an allergy to smth but this seems much more likely... that said i just wanna look glossy and bright and idk how at this point cuz im doing all the right things from a skincare perspective (do i finally have to admit it's my vitamin deficiencies😭)

When you use occlusives like aquaphor, you really shouldn’t do it often especially if you have combination to oily type skin. Honestly if you’re looking for your skin to not dry out as much - especially during winter - start using a humidifier at night! Just be sure to dump it out every day and to disinfect weekly. My skin gets SO dry during winter that I started using a humidifier to help. I’m from the deep south in the USA so my skin isn’t used to such little humidity 😅

Some people mistake my hives and other allergic reactions for acne. I was one of those people for a LONG time. There are many ways to trigger inflammation. Maybe there are other fungi that attack the face, which are common in Asiatic countries, where there are plenty of highly humid regions. Do we have any data on that?

Ok, but I have a serious question! Because I had this come out of nowhere! I did some research! I thought it was an allergy-related until I seen it can happen when you have taken antibiotics often and I have due to dental issues from medication. I have followed FA safe skincare and honestly, it has helped tremendously! So I'm confused lol

i have this type of acne, but i have very oily skin + i live in florida where i am always sweating... what products or techniques would you reccoment for controlling this? i feel like cleansing my skin dries out a lot, and if i moisturize then eventually my skin feels greasy because i just produce so much oil that it collects over my products... any tips?

People likely call it 'Fungul Acne' because it sounds like you're saying the name of a fungus/mushroom, even if you're not. Also, a lot of people don't know what is on your /board exams/ to become a /dermatologist/. These people arent dermatologists, they dont really care what its called as long as they can name it. Not all people can remeber names for things, medical or not, that are that long. A term like 'Fungul Acne' is a good way to bring attention to something without have to memorize such a long name. Its like a nickname that people can remember and if they go to a dermatologist they can then tell their doc what they think is going on. Its not that hard of a concept, really. 😊

I don't think she's taking issue with the name, she's taking issue with the fact that people are overusing it to describe a bunch of things that aren't what it actually is. Like she is saying, it's not a chronic condition and it's not just bumpy face acne, as this influencer and others have often presented it as

I was diagnosed with fungal acne. Fungal “acne” is very, very real. When I use products that are not final acne safe, I immediately have a gruesome acne-like rash by the next day, and it lasts days to weeks.

I’m currently going through this and to be honest it’s impacting my lower face ie my jaw my chin and my neck. They are soooooo itchy and they flake off like scabs and regrow again. It’s annoying and to be honest I’ve been going through tubes of ketoconazole ie nizoral cream given to me by doctor. At this rate I’m going to need a hundred tubes to treat the entire infected area. For me it wasn’t humidity or moist breading ground. It was the fact I jumped off the low carb diet and the sudden urge of sugar and carbs got the little yeast enemies excited

for me, it was adapalene gel, and later epiduo, these are prescription only in the uk where im from. . If you have dry skin like me avoid thick and oily moisturisers or use sparingly. switch to gel like atwr based moisturisers and thin milky products. An anti fungal or acidic (glycolic, salicylic ect) face wash. Let it sit on the skin for three mina before rinsing away. Check your blood sugar, expecially If it's a persistent problem for you and work on maintaining a healthy microbiom. I'm talking fermented foods, yogurts, sourcrat, kimchi, kampuchea, acv, ect. It may also help to change how you store or wash your personal care items. wash cloths and face towels shouldn't be left damp, put them on the radiator or right into the laundry between uses. Your spin brush heads loofah, any thing like this can be soaked in a bleach bath or antiseptic cleaning solution for 45 mins once a week to stop pathogen growth without having the throws things out all the time. Hope this helps ❤

Hi doctor! Could you please please make a video about a morning and evening routine for someone using adapelene? I know that we shouldn't apply an actives with adapelene so i was wondering if we can still apply any actives in the morning (adapelene at night) or how should a morning skincare routine look like if you are using adapelene at night (aside from sun screen). Thank you for all your videos you are so helpful!

This is what my derm said: Cleanse, moisturizer and sunscreen in the AM and cleanse, moisturizer, pea sized Adapalene twenty mins later. That’s it. Keep it simple and start introducing Adapalene more and more once your skin has adapted start putting it under your moisturizer and keep going.

Also, my first thought when I hear "fungal" is not skincare, but doctor. I had a fungal infection on my skin (got bit by a cat while treating him against it), didn't know what it was at first and thought it was a insect bite. Another one appeared and another one until I had around 10 of them. Then I was bothered enough to go to a doctor because they grew bigger and bigger. They were a bitch to get rid of because I waited this long. I needed pills because it was past the point of only cream. While yeast doesn't sound as bad, I'd still get it checked out, especially if it lasts a bit longer to the point of changing your skincare routine to get rid of it.

Have you had an experience with “werewolf syndrome”? My husband has it; many hairs out of one pore/follicle. Every once in a while, he’ll get ingrown hairs! Of course in places that are not seen easily. He goes through much pain and sometimes surgery. He stopped antiperspirant and changed his soaps, (laundry & shower soap), but he has an occasional break out. Do you have any suggestions? Most doctors are clueless.
