Tambdi Surla Mahadev temple is located in the village Surla, in Sanguem Taluka and the village is locally known as Tambdi Surla because of the red earth found in the vicinity.
The raw material used for the construction of temple is chlorite schist, which is a soft stone on which intricate carvings are possible.
The temple is presently located in mollem wildlife century on the left Bank of natural stream locally known as "'vazar Sakalacho whal' among lush green settings. Though the temple was known to the local people it was first reported in 1935 by Shri Anant Ramkrishna Dhume then working in the land survey department who informed about the temple to Dr. Pissurlekar working as an archivist in the office of the government chamber letter it was classified as national monuments.
