Isles finally met their Waterloo after nineteen straight playoff series. Eerie how similar this game is to game 1 of the previous year where the road team squeaks out a shutout.

The first two games of the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals displayed how great both teams were. In Game 2, the NY Islanders showed the younger healthier Edmonton Oilers that they still had the heart of a champion and were not going to just give up even though they were badly banged up with injuries. This Stanley Cup finals showed the new lion king, Wayne Gretsky, and the old lion king, Mike Bossy.

Game 1 was the undoing . Yet no rational explanation why the league went to a 2-3-2 format nor why in a format like that the series would start in New York. Since Edmonton had the better record, they should have had home ice advantage. If they took advantage of it, more power to them. The hockey gods did not dish out justice in 1984.

The Islanders had home ice advantage due to the fact that the Wales Conference had a better record than the Campbell Conference in all interconference games that were played during the 1983-84 regular season.

This is such an historical game so I am glad to be able to see these games thanks to the uploader's generosity. The broadcasts back then could be kind of murky to begin with, so with the audio being out of sync I'm not able determine who some of the players are, nor what plays they are making.
