Unreal that tying goal vs the Isles in 1984 was allowed to count. it was a clear high stick. Can you imagine if the Rangers won in OT and the Isles dynasty ended on a bad call. I'm not sure if back then it was shoulder or crossbar...regardless it was over both his shoulder when he made contact and the crossbar

Received a Bryon Trottier signed wooden stick in the early 80s when the islanders came to a father and son night at my school. I then used it to play hockey. Should have preserved it, but it was a lot of fun meeting a lot of the players.

I was at that game…didn’t even have my own seat, sharing my season ticket with my mother & it was her turn to go. Made a deal with an usher, prior to the game…he was working a gate at the doors, slipping him a $20.00. When we won the Cup & people jumped on the ice, I was literally standing between both teams benches, at centre ice. 🇨🇦

As an Islander fan, this is really hard to watch. Winning Game 1, which they could have, things could have been different. But even if that were the case, you could see the team wearing down, they trailed in every series, and they almost lost Vs. the Rangers and Canadiens, then did lose to Edmonton. I know a lot of fellow Islander fans complain about the 2-3-2 format, but I don't think it would have mattered. As they say, you're not in trouble until you lose a home game. The Islanders did and did right away. It was Edmonton's time. I hate it, but that's the reality.

Jason ... As I became a hockey fan, the Islanders were my team to hope for. The Islanders beat a few of my favourite teams to win their cups; but I rejoiced every time time they beat Edmonton, whom I despise, and would like to call Deadmonton if I choose a name -- not the city, but that team(!)!!

The NHL changed the finals format from 2-2-1-1-1 to 2-3-2 because they didn't want the Islanders matching the Canadiens run. Don't forget the Oilers won because they had 3 straight games at home. Then they changed the format back.

Maloney's stick was not over his shoulder when he scored that tying goal vs. the Islanders. At best, replays showed it was inconclusive. Even Mike Bossy admitted that. Therefore, the ref made the right call.

The hit on Ulfie was very clean. Nothing wrong at all with that hit. If it was over the shoulder, it wasn't conclusive. From one angle I'd lean towards yes, from the other I'd lean towards no. And since there was no replay at the time, they had to allow the goal. For us Ranger fans, it was a cruel tease. It was the best rivalry I've ever seen.

From 1982-1985, the NHL had a unique playoff format. Home-ice advantage in the Conference Finals was determined by which division had a better regular season head-to-head record in games within the conference (Adams teams vs. Patrick teams for the Wales, Norris teams vs. Smythe teams for the Campbell) Home ice in the Stanley Cup Final was determined by which conference had a better regular season head-to-head record in games within the league (Campbell teams vs. Wales teams). Here are the times that it affected the playoffs unfairly: Chicago (72 pts) had home ice vs. Vancouver (77 pts) in the 1982 Campbell Final Montreal (75 pts) had home ice vs. NY Islanders (104 pts) in the 1984 Wales Final NY Islanders (104 pts) had home ice vs. Edmonton (119 pts) in the 1984 Cup Final Quebec (91 pts) had home ice vs. Philadelphia (113 pts) in the 1985 Wales Final
