It's always good to see you back man. I always get myself wondering every few months if there's something new on this channel. The Spectrum scene is a very small niche and as someone who never heard of it until KZitem existed your videos of legit gameplay and commentary are very enjoyable, I must have watched every single one, for me playing these games is very overwhelming even though I was a NES kid and a few genres fascinate me, especially the isometric platformers.

Thanks and glad you like the videos. I would like to do more but life gets in the way as the saying goes. The isometric games can be hit and miss on the speccy. There are some great ones but some no so good ones too.

Great video Neil. I have to agree with all your thoughts on all the games. I wanted so much to get into them but one mechanic in each of the games put me off trying. Yes they were amazing like Tir na nog but so hard I couldn't be bothered. True about the Arcade machines as well, why play conversions when you can get the real experience.

Thanks, glad you enjoyed it. I keep thinking there's something I just don't get about Tir Na Nog. It is hard to find a conversion that's better than the Arcade original on any platform.

Oh wow!! This made my week! Fantastic, thank you so so very much! Okay let me watch this in comfort and then give my opinion. 1: Avalon - totally agree, I loved the graphics but I struggled with it so much and just couldn't get used to it. I totally agree about the controls, the movement and controls were the main reason I never got into it, it was just annoying even though it looked cool. 2: Tir Na Nog - I love this game but I totally understand your opinion and kind of agree, it can be very empty and boring but for some reason I loved it, I wasn't good at it but I could walk around for ages quite happily. 3: Chase HQ - I know this is a huge fan favourite but I'm very happy to see this game here as I thought at times like I'm the only person who doesn't like it. Sure it's better than the C64 version but it's still meh, 4: Ghostbusters - Sorry, I liked this game, this might be due to bias as I simply love the film, but I did enjoy the game a lot and finished it several times. (I agree the driving bit is boring and the end is crazy, it ramps up to a stupid level) 5: Underworlde - Good grief I have a massive love for Ultimate but crikey this game is just too annoying and frustrating to play, totally agree, it is just dreadful. The box looked so cool, sadly it's best left on a shelf closed :D 6: Herbert's Dummy Run - Well I have to be honest here, I can't stand it at all, I just don't find it enjoyable or even slightly fun so it's nice to see this this in your list, it deserves its place! 7: BombJack - haha! happy to see this crap here. I never liked the arcade original, it's just a tedious and unfun (is that even a word?) game. (it's a shame the arcade version spoiled the game for you) fantastic video, thanks so much for doing that. ..now I'll go back to watching your top 100 which never gets old btw. ;) Take care, Steve

Thanks for the inspiration for the video and detailed comments Steve. I can't believe you don't like Bomb Jack but each to their own :). Ghostbusters is a strange one as I can kind of see what they were trying to do but it just isn't for me. It just doesn't feel like there is enough game. I'm sure my Top 100 will get old eventually, you probably know it better than I do by now :).

I still really enjoy Speccy Chase HQ, but I have to be in that "playing old ports" mode. It's difficult in this day and age where you can just fire up MAME to go back to some of these 8-bit driving game ports, but sometimes I can get into that mindset. Same with WEC LeMans, which is equally fantastic, and Enduro Racer to a lesser degree.

I really like Enduro Racer on the Speccy but haven't played the arcade game so don't have that to compare it with. As I say in the video I do appreciate what a fantastic achievement ChaseHQ is on Speccy but having played the arcade machine I just can't play it on the Speccy.

Nice to see another video Geoff. Just wondering the other day if you were going to do one. Some controversial choices in there. Never played Underwurlde - although I remember it on the scene - but holy moly, I suspect it would have given my young sensibilities a frustration seizure minutes into playing looking at your footage!

Avalon always reminds me of those ridiculous full page adverts banging on about being the world's first 3D adventure movie-game experience (or something similarly exaggerated, self promoting to the point of absurdity). Anyway the ads did my head in, even more so once I actually played it !
@geoffneil5073

I'd forgotten about the adverts but at least there is a decent game in there. I'm sure if I'd got Avalon back in the day I would have loved it. There's a lot of games that were rubbish where the advert was boasting about how great it was, the Great Space Race adverts were two p0ages :).

Interesting choices. Some I agree with, as we have chatted about before. Time gets less for gaming, so that is definitely a factor. There are many games I would like to spend time on, but just don’t have the time sadly.

Enjoyed this video! Agree with you about Underworlde and Ghostbusters, but sad to see Tir Na Nog here - I didn't actually play that but played the similar looking sequel Dun Darach (loved it) and the space version Marsport, which is one of my favourite games of all time, despite the ridiculously cryptic clues at the end!

I didn't really play any of them back in the day and, as with so many things now, I just don't have the time to get into them. It is interesting that in the comments a lot of people agree with some of the game then say they like others, as I said at the end I think that's a good thing.

Underwurlde is really hard but you can get used to it. I used to think the only way I'd ever complete JSW was with infinite lives and even then you can get into an infinite death loop. Bomb Jack is great just I can't get back into it after playing the arcade game.

First of all, great to see you back sir! Have highly enjoyed your videos in the past (especially the Jet Set Willy walkthroughs) and so very happy to see a new upload. Secondly, I can only ever agree with you on Underwurlde. Never got on with it. I'll likely never get on with it. The erratic bouncing around the place drives me up the wall and I could never get to grips with it properly. Shame really as I highly enjoyed Sabre Wulf before it and was really excited for this. Just one of those that is simply not for me.

Glad you enjoy my videos :). Even the best have to have some bad moments, Underwurld (and also Nightshade in my opinion) are the two for them. I didn't include Nightshade as I think they corrected that mistake with Gunfright. I kind of think Starquake is the game Underwurld should have been.
