If you only play games I see no purpose to this APU, I mean if your only goal is 1080p gaming, you would do better with a Ps4 pro or a Xbox one x. The lowest price new PC I can build , a gaming PC around this APU starting from scratch is about 600€, 180€ for the APU (including vat ) motherboard 80€ ram 16 gigs 2 sticks 80€, Corsair VS PSU 50€ , WD Blue 3D NAND SATA SSD 80€ , BitFenix Nova computer case 40€ windows 10 120€ Deltaco TB-112 keyboard and mouse 20€ 180+ 80+80+50+80+40+120+20=650€ + shipping, a Xbox one x is 470 € + shipping and a PS4 pro is about 430€ + shipping. So if the only goal is gaming why get this APU ? I mean sure you can remove windows and get Linux for free to start, install steam and play a few select games and test your luck with Proton and hope it will let you play the other games. But even if you remove the price of windows and KB+M you will still pay more for this build.

@joshuasterling2144
5 жыл бұрын
@@cunnyman The 3gb version is an ok budget option, but it is the cut down card. One of the reasons I never considered it since its a scam. 6 to 8 gigs of Vram is almost a must going forward. Even if you take into account buying for the next two years it makes sense. If you want 1080 high detail or better...New consoles will have even more vram than that which will put lower cards in jeopardy. The RX590 may be a power hog but its a 7 tflop gpu with 8 gigs of Vram and its less than 200 dollars. The new Navi APU coming out at the end of the year should also be a great option as I see it matching or exceeding low end cards, this is especially true now that Ryzen has memory compatibility up to 3600 without doing anything special.

It's really annoying AMD are holding their APU's and mobile chips a generation behind... if these were Zen2 / Navi APU's they would be kicking serious ass compared to the 2400G. One assumes this is simply due to supply issues that they don't want to split the 7nm cores among the extra product lines. Or perhaps it's the best way to keep them cheap... by using the APU's and mobile to suck up the remaining 12nm stock after the swap to 7nm?

Apus are always a year behind, also as Apus are currently monolithic dies (aka not chiplets like zen2 parts) 7nm is not viable as it's too expensive for budget parts (also as it's intended to be used with igpu it dosen't need to be more powerful) and they can't just bin zen2 chiplets, although it's possible we might see zen 2 ryzen 3 chips eventually if theres enough left over chiplets with defective cores but for now its not worth it whilst 7nm is expensive and still maturing, don't forget how cheap zen and zen+ ryzen 5 chips are which are around £100 and compete with intel i3s anyway if you go for a dgpu.
