Warning! 🚨 Massive modding nerd explanation for ganon’s final smash ahead! Anything that can move independently of a character is coded completely differently and is what we call an “article”. Every projectile is an article, and some final smashes use articles as well, just so, for example, pit’s lightning chariot isn’t just- moving around invisibly with him all game. Something like Mario’s cap wouldn’t be an article. Sure, it moves in one of his taunts, but it moves *with* him- so if he’s pushed with wind during the taunt, the cap goes with him. Beast ganon is just an article of ganon, and when the final smash starts, normal ganondorf gets put into an animation, and beast ganon is summoned. The same frame beast ganon is summoned is when normal ganondorf is turned invisible, and then a couple frames later the projectile is counted. As for why this final smash in specific is considered a projectile- the way to turn an article into a projectile is just- a flag. Mewtwo’s shadow ball for example has the projectile flag on, but if it was off, nothing would change except it not being counted as a projectile during results (reflectability is a hitbox property). Ganon’s final smash article just has the projectile flag for some reason ¯\_(ツ)_/¯.

10:00 this happens because all cutscene final smashes sort of "reset" everyone's state when it's used. Like if you went into freefall, was in knockback, or held any item and a cutscene final smash just so happened to occur, all of that would be removed and you would go back to a normal "idle" state.

Yeah, I see it all the time when playing with 8 players and final smashes, I've had items get deleted from my hand because someone landed a Final Smash on someone else (these effects have also saved me, such as canceling Kirby and Chrom's special fall from using Up B) It's a weird thing, and while I find it kinda dumb, at the same time it does feel somewhat necessary

So what you're telling me is that in theory, if you're playing casual doubles and your team mate misses the ledge and is in free fall, you could save save them assuming your character's final smash works for this and you have final smash to begin with.

What if you can't reflect ganondorf final smash because the "projectile" is too strong and break the reflector (at it hits you above 52%) what happens if you make ganondorf weak enough so that the final smash does less damage and thus get reflected, if it actually can be reflected?

I don't know if the "projectile" being too strong matters perhaps sense the sword swing itself deals below 20% already which I would imagine mean it would be reflected then. I don't know though how much percentage damage it would be before it stops reflecting, or how it works more than just the obvious stuff, but I would believe that Ganon is just a unique type of projectile in this case that just can't be interacted by like Mario's cape even if you somehow perfectly timed the move, if not a straight up mistake somehow.

One random fact I found is a bug with samus red missiles on team battle : Red missiles won't track down opponents (or allies if you can attack them) depending on the team color and player number of samus : - Samus P1 won't track red team ; - Samus P2 won't track blue team ; - Samus P3 wont' track green team ; - Samus P4 won't track yellow team ; Such a obscure bug, the crazy thing is on a 2vs2 battle, the bug whould proc pretty often with team attack on.

I found something about isabells final smash but haven't tested it yet so my apologies if it doesn't work. I think if she uses her final smash while standing on a crate with wheels you can pick up the crate that she is standing on and move her around during it. I think you should be able to throw the crate that she's standing on offstage and kill her mid final smash.

Here’s a fun fact in a similar vein as fox laser! Bayonetta and her extended gun normals and specials, if the purple effect hits the opponent, it also cancels the voice line of any character!

For the first one saying the prevent you from dying to the top blastzone thing, you don't die unless you're in hitstun, so if you just don't get hit while being in the top blastzone you don't die! Hope this helps

Looking back at it, Samus has invincibility in the duration of her flying up from Fox's final smash, but doesn't when you use the down b thing. So that is why she dies, and also reminds me of how that could happen in Brawl with a final smash like Captain Falcon's. The effect was a bit more normal cause you lose the stock without the whole keeping percent till you respawn, but you could become a full on zombie if you lose your last stock to the initial part, but not the launch part. Try having more players in and see if you can become a zombie like in Brawl, or whether you just blip out of existence or something

Just to add, if you use an emulator and lag your game on purpose or don't cache the FS shaders, you can see the character that's being hit fly upwards. This can also be seen by modding your switch and lagging it that way, although it's about limiting CPU threads more than lower your FPS. If you lag your game with the ball glitch mentioned in the video, you can see Samus get KO'd in real time. In addition to that, if you lag your game without the glitch, you can see the white invincibility glint that indicates you're invincible. You can also do this in training mode, with no mods using the show invincibility function, and using the FS at low speed. Just wanted to share my testing.

From what I can tell, Mii Swordfighter's body entirely rotates. Not slowly peels off, as the leg seems to move a bit closer to the camera. It might just be an animation error the devs never realized since it's quite subtle.

Bonus info on the wall of lava [from behind], you don't actually have to go up that high if you use up special. Even characters like chrome and ikes up specials will allow them to not get hit by the lava when it clearly LOOKS like it should've. it was like this even in brawl.

5:00 i think that number increase when the projectile gets spawned, not when it gets fired. Thats why thw arrow and ganon beast count even when not fired yet. Apparently chargable projectiles are two separeted objects, one for when they are getting charged and one for when fired

my best guess for the ganondorf thing is that the game uses some sort of internal function to make projectiles, and his final smash uses some sort of property of that, which increases the projectile counter as an unintended byproduct as for the whole thing counting as a projectile, that actually makes a lot of sense - the moment ganondorf changes models, he's replaced by the beast ganon "projectile" that then does the final smashing and gets boosted by the projectile spirit; he shows up back where he was because he never actually moved, he just disappeared and then the beast ganon "projectile" did all the work edit: i have a similar guess as to why link's final smash is funky: it probably works like joker's neutral b where it's actually just a really long hitbox, since it happens so quickly that there's no reason to shoot off an object that travels across the screen, and in fact doing so would probably make it just phase through opponents since it would be on one side of them one frame and the other side the next

My best guess about why this happens is speed, trajectory, and gravity/ground tracking. I seem to recall when playing around with final smashes when the game first came out, that links final smash is a) near instant b) horizontal and c) unaffected by gravity. I think that it is some combination of these effects that make it impossible to code as a “projectile”. Similarly we see that Mario’s final smash has a) a non-instant speed b) a non-straight and non-parabolic path, and c) is unaffected by gravity. It is also not counted as a “projectile”. So combining these observations, a projectile may require a finite speed, but additionally a trajectory for which the physics engine can act upon, though, whether or not a projectile is affected by gravity might not be completely necessary, since ganondorfs final smash does not appear to be. TLDR; anything that is instant, or cannot be mapped as a straight line or parabolic arc; cannot be categorized or instanced as a projectile in the games engine.

Link's final smash's hitbox is a straight line like Joker's gun (might be wrong). This'd make it more like something like the triforce slash but 1 (or 2) hits instead of a few. Ganondorf's final smash is probably like the bullet bill. Ganondorf leaves, a projectile spawns and moves, then Ganondorf returns. Maybe it's a projectile because the final smash user's model disappears and is replaced by a rarely used model. Maybe Pac-Man is a projectile? Beast Ganon is also a boss (though Bowser wasn't, he was still in control).

Theory as to why Link's final smash is not counted as a projectile: mechanically, it doesn't have to work as one. It is so fast, it doesn't really need to wait to move from link to the edge of the screen, so maybe it's really just a huge disjointed hitbox that makes it work more like a hitscan weapon, not a weapon that spawns something and can be dodged by moving out of the way. Ganon's final smash is slower moving and maybe can be dodged if you start in the way but jump out of the way by the time it gets to you, and it was probably easier to make it work as a projectile instead of storing Ganondorf's location at activation and warping him back. It was probably done to fix a glitch where Ganondorf would lose a stock if Final Smash Ganon went outside the blast zone.

Yo, here's a definitive answer on why Ganondorf's Final Smash counts as a projectile. The game uses a "status" system, which determines how a move behaves using a collection of scripts that run during each point of a certain character state. One of these, the "pre" script, handles setting certain flags such as whether the move is B-Reversible/Wave-Bounceable, whether you can get footstooled or phantom footstooled (which is set to false during any attacking action, extra food for thought), and... whether or not the game counts any articles generated by the character during that state should count as a projectile. Mario, Link, and the others you mentioned do not that flag set, but guess who does? That's right, Ganondorf. Thanks for coming to my TED Talk, play The WuBor Patch.

(I submitted this over two years ago in the google doc but I'm guessing it got lost so reposting) Here's a silly little fact: Items can spawn in sudden death from Chancey's eggs on the stage Saffron City when items and stage hazards are enabled. First pokemon spawn needs to be Chansey (unless you survive lone enough for other pokemon that is) "Rare" items such as the smash ball and assist trophies cannot spawn, but most items can without issue. This same bug was also present from spawns from missiles in smash 4 wii u's Orbital Gate Assault stage (tho im not sure if it happens in smash 64)

The obvious question on the first one is, what if you only have one stock left? does the initial false KO actually KO you and the match ends before the final smash can begin? 4:33 he used an ancient arrow, so he didn't get the projectile counter to tick up, just like it eats up enemy drops :C

Can’t be ko’d in certain types of hit stun (I think free fall correct me if I’m wrong) but Samus dies because she isn’t in any hitstun after the explosion. The reason samus doesn’t die normally is the same reason the Luigi ladder worked in melee

i think ganondorf's thing could have something to do with the weird paralyzing thing he had in past games, its probably a mistake or maybe they had plans to always left that paralyzing attack but different, with the electric slashes Ganon uses in his boss fight so either they messed up adding them to a normal match and decided to just cut the electricity or they did that correctly but someone then telled them to cut it to simplify the attack and they forgot to transform it to a normal phisical attack again

I believe in Smash 4 you couldn't actually be KO'd by the upper blastzone unless you were in hitstun, and I think the same is in Ultimate, either that or the blastzone for if you aren't in hitstun is MUCH higher. We know this because in Smash 4 you could stack a bunch of jump boosts and a jetpack and you wouldn't get KO'd no matter how high you went up. That's why Fox's final smash KO's later if you try to act out of it ASAP. It seems Samus' ball just bugs out this interaction.

Mii Swordfighter looks more like they impact, bounce back and tilt backwards a little bit (watch the boot), and then just fall straight down afterwards, rather than peeling off and falling backwards like KKR or Bowser.
