I'm working in Erdas 2014, used 3x3 kernel and worked perfectly. applyed 6x for each band Thank you

if possible, I do have two question 1 how can i reclassified the corrected land sat when i analyzing NDVI and other vegetation index's? I thing that, there is some thing change on the nature of the image and may this change can affect the result? Kind Regards

I am not sure , what change are you talking about. If you explain what is the exact problem, I will try to have a lootk

Many thanks for this! I have used this technique and it was quite successful. Please how can I reference this process in paper that I'm writing at the moment? And please do you know any paper in a scientific journal that used or referenced this process?

Hello Sir... When I am going to do focal analysis for de-striping the Landsat 7 ETM+ 2010 as per your video... I am always getting the same error msg...i.e. "the Syntax error in file node list". Every time it is getting stopped. I tried both before stacking the layers and after stacking the layers, but every time it shows same msg. What shall I do sir?

i have a problem , i pre-processed a Landsat image(stacked) in ENVI(after doing FOCAL analysis) . but when ENVI completed the correction the image went back to previous state (gap). now im trying to do FOCAL again but this time the image is SIGNED 16 bit and the focal analysis doesn't seem to have any effect of that :( . can you help?

There is a video in this channel to do gap filling for scientific analysis. Follow that. That would be the best solution

I want to destripe/gap fill the landsat 7 slc off data. I tried in ENVI with single file gap fill method and I got result. I have a few doubts: 1. In erdas Can i stack all the 6 bands of MSS landsat 7 etm+ slc off data and start the focal analysis or does I need to do band wise focal analysis then stack the all the corrected bands? how many times we need to perform the focal analysis. 2. In ENVI there is landsat gap fill tool, in that tool there are three methods a) single file gap fill, b) Two band gap fill (global histogram matching) c)Two band gap fill (local histogram matching) In Two band gap fill (local histogram matching) does we need to work band wise or on stacked image. Thank you

Sir, I atmospheric corrected the bands and renamed them, now i am not able to use the drop down boxes of ignore specified values and apply only at specified values. why is this happening? and could you suggest the alternative.

Yes it is working in 2014 version also. Just change kernal function as 5*5 instead of 3*3. Thanks

many thanks sir for amazing video, can I conduct gapfilling after atmospheric correction (FLAASH), or, the gapfilling technique must be applied on band by band? I really don't know the sequence and also my study area is more than one scene.
@GeoSpatialTutorials

Better would be, Gap filling first, Mosaic next and then atmospheric correction

many thanks sir, do you mean gap filling band by band separately? then layerstake for each scene? then atmospheric correction? best regards

You can but, results may no be as good. SO better do the process first and then mosaic

why focal analysis option is better than destripe option in erdas?

Focal analysis is not better. Its only for displaying purpose. Not for scientific analysis

Dear Sir, Thank you very much! and I have two question, How much this Gap filled images are accurate? Is this technique directly applied to stacked images or before stacking images? regards,
@GeoSpatialTutorials

You have to apply it to already stacked image. Else your work will be increased by that much.This is not a very accurate method, it just interpolates spectral values to fill the gaps. But the best among available to carry out scientific analysis.

I think you should have said in the video that this method is NOT preferred in scientific analysis. I am disappointed on you for not warning the viewers.

Anyone going through it will observe that its not perfect. Many have mailed me asking about the accuracy. I have replied accordingly. Also go through the comments for which I have replied. Here also I have mentioned that. While making a video a person can forget to include certain thing and probably you should think of it before posting such comments. There is no gap filling method that is accurate. SLC off is an issue which can not be addressed completely and there are one or two methods which addresses it to some extent and this method is definitely one. Though it is for primarily for aesthetic purpose, some small scientific analysis also can be made. Though the accuracy can not be guaranteed.

Also do not think that, using a historical data for filling the gap or using multiple SLC off images to fill gaps result in accurate image. There is not accurate method for this.You should select method based on your work. If you are using historical data for filling the gap or using multiple SLC off images to fill gaps be aware that temporal changes in land cover can totally spoil your study. Method I explained here interpolates the neighboring cells, others will interpolate the historical images. That the only difference.

Thanks for your reply. As it was a very important aspect, I still think the video should contain that 'aesthetic' warning. People will be misdirected otherwise.
