She had very little to do with what would be referred to as changing the appropriate dress code. I said very little here because there was a counter culture to the Barbie appearance by teenage girls when Shirley was popular. The BDSM style of the 1980s and 1990s well if you truly studied it Shirley potentially became an icon for women in the wrong place. The knowledge that society is made up of misogynists and rapists who prey upon those who dress a certain way. When you lure a type of girl or boy to a club a dancehall a concert. Except Shirley isn't just responsible for the live show or the dress code at the local mall... The internet is filled with wayyyy more garbage than that.

Uhm…so you’re the type who would rather blame women for how they dress rather than the men who rape? yet you say the society is made up of misogynists and rapists…I'm not sure what you’re trying to say so please make sense and elaborate…I for one don’t believe in a rape culture or feminism, it may be somewhat complicated for me to grasp but since women got the right to vote population growth has been in decline and incel men becomes more prevalent and hate between the genders rises, you know with more career options being available to women some of them say they need no man soooo….besides why push for voting when all politicians do is talk and not acting in the interest of the people who voted for them.

I read an article somewhere online last week (6-01-2015) of an interview with Garbage when this song came out and the band stated the song was about the difficulty of being different but not at all about homosexuality. The lyrics are, according to Garbage, about a boy who is introduced to sex by a women who was having sex with his father: "...like father, like son..." The song is WAY more complicated than superficial guessing might indicate. ♥

I'll never forget first time listening to Garbage over the house phone while struggling to understand my older Spanish speaking cousins in the Dominican Republic 🇩🇴. I was rlly young and super into Nas and hip hop in general, my pops always had the Beatles or Elton John or the Doors etc *blasting*, while my mom had the radio tuned to Merengue o Salsa, Juan Luis Gabriel comes to mind. When they introduced me to this awesome band, I thought it was so freaking cool (and weird) they listened to English music especially rock/alt out there. Music transcends, it's universal. Garbage 4 ever

Lyrics: Hey boy, take a look at me Let me dirty up your mind I'll strip away your hard veneer And see what I can find The queerest of the queer The strangest of the strange The coldest of the cool The lamest of the lame The numbest of the dumb I hate to see you here You choke behind a smile A fake behind the fear The queerest of the queer This is what he pays me for I'll show you how it's done You learn to love the pain you feel Like father like son The queerest of the queer Hide inside your head The blindest of the blind The deadest of the dead You're hungry 'cause you starve While holding back the tears Choking on your smile A fake behind the fear The queerest of the queer I know what's good for you, you can touch me if you want I know you're dying to, you can touch me if you want I know what's good for you, you can touch me if you want But you can't stop The queerest of the queer The strangest of the strange The coldest of the cool The lamest of the lame The numbest of the dumb I hate to see you here You choke behind a smile A fake behind the fear The queerest of the queer The strangest of the strange The coldest of the cool You're nothing special here A fake behind the fear The queerest of the queer I know what's good for you I know you're dying to I know what's good for you I bet you're dying to You can touch me if you want You can touch me if you want You can touch me You can touch me But you can't stop

Anyone noticed how it all started with a vain young man, that is tempted through adulation (Shirley Manson) and enticement, he takes the bait. Next thing you know the young man is trapped, stripped from his identity, falls into madness (shaved hair), and now a new (pagan) identity is assigned to him against his will (contra natura)... the aftermath is a man lost and confused by the simplest things. It reminded me when Nebuchadnezzar descended into madness (Daniel 4).

First time I ever heard this song I was 14 getting ready for school early in the morning and it was on vh1. Back then I listened to bands like misfits, dead Kennedy's, black flag, nofx, and on the other hand I really liked alternative like Smashing Pumpkins, nirvana and I wasn't sure where garbage fit in but I liked it. I still do all these years later and they have made some really good music over the years. Butch vig is an awesome musical engineer, he just understands music from every angle to make it revolutionary or listenable or anything he wants it to be. One of the best of our time.
