I got one just for fun when i picked up my 67. Pretty cool little device.

It sure is. I'm curious though, why did you buy the eTrex SE when you already have great navigation abilities within the 67i? Rick

Thanks for doing this review! Very helpful to get to see this in action. I think we will order one of these as a backup on our small boat.

Glad it was helpful! I'll be working on additional videos on it in the near future and breaking things down in more detail but in smaller videos that focus on particular parts of the eTrex SE. I already created another eTrex SE video about navigation that I believe will be uploaded on Sunday. After that, I'll be working on a tracking video. Rick

@@outdooremergencytech Thanks so much Rick! I have been searching online but have been unable to determine the following; can a single field (example = speed), be the sole thing displayed? We ask because a large single item data display would be super useful to us for our boat speed.
@outdooremergencytech
Жыл бұрын
I'll add this to my field test for this coming weekend or actually sooner. I'll test it on my drive to work tomorrow to see how accurate the speed is plus if I can find a display that shows the speed in large numbers. I'll let you know and will upload the video as soon as I edit it and can get it uploaded. Rick

I've just looked at my eTrex SE and I cannot find a large screen with the speed, but there are two screens that show the speed. The speed image is about 3/8" x 5/8". It may be best to call Garmin directly and ask them. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more help. Rick

Okay, I talked with Garmin and found a way to show less data fields that makes it change from 8 fields to 4 fields and the middle image, which defaults to speed, is now at least 1" wide by about 3/4" high. I'll measure it when I get home but it now seems large enough to be visible when mounted to handle bars or on something on a boat that would be in arms reach of you. I will create a short video this evening and upload it tonight and then I'll post the link here so you can see the difference. Rick

English Translation: I have carried out the activity recording test of the same path and distance, one with recording in the SECOND method and the other is the SMART one. The result was that recording per second gave 3258 points and in smart it gave 558 points. But reviewing the entire route on the map, the drawing mark, if everything is well recorded, precise along the road, no sign has been lost, it is not cut off and everything is perfect, my question is which one to use for more confidence because both have recorded well I see no difference in the PLANNING only the points on the path. Honestly I haven't test it this way and would not be able to give you a good answer. Hopefully someone else can answer the question here in the messages or you may want to contact Garmin directly. Aside from cost, I don't understand the use for a device that doesn't have good maps for hiking and doesn't communicate. Thanks for the video, was. Urious about this device.

I think this is a good device for people who want some rugged navigation device and don't want to spend a lot of money. Personally, I would spend an extra $100 or so and get something like the Garmin inReach Mini 2 that can do both navigation and communication and the navigation capabilities are better in my opinion. Of course, now that I have tested the GPSMAP 67i a lot, I would say go for that if you have the money. Rick

If u know how to navigate and read maps how good is the se. It’s so cheap im thinking of trying it. I mostly hike the smoky mtns of tn but im a geologist so i always have a map and compass but prefer gps nowadays

For someone like yourself, you would be fine with the eTrex SE, but as you said, and I feel the same way, I like the convenience of the GPS, Topo maps and smartphone apps, and I'm willing to pay more for the convenience. Thanks for leaving the comment. Rick

In the exact same boat. I'm a geo and used to map and compass. Primarily using GPS to give us distance, heading, and lat/long location quickly. Really don't want anything super expensive or overbuilt.

@@peterhone9763 nice. The only thing I like is some base maps to give context. I’ve been spoiled in using some garmin watches that have maps built into them

I’m torn I tried the 67 I and found the menu very clunky compared to a smartphone. Right now I’m using my watch 965 phone and a zoleo

I had to break down the 67i into smaller field tests so I could really understand how to use it. The menu system and features are fine for those who like and want more tech on their device but it takes some time to get familiar with it. Rick

Wait... so SE can work as a bluetooth GPS receiver with a smartphone/tablet? Like how Garmin GLO 2 work? with any location service apps like Google Maps, Gaia? or only with Garmin Explorer app?

@@outdooremergencytech Hi Rick, thanks for the reply. In fact what I want to know is , if the Garmin can quickly and easily be connected with the satellites? Actually I have a Bushnell personal back tracker and it is a pain in the neck to connect with the satellites when I am in a city. Sometimes even impossible. Kind regards. Walter
