You're a lifesaver! I accidentally got water into my water heater while cleaning my garage. I was able to successfully relight the pilot light using a lighter. My water heater is now working again. Thanks!!!!!!!

Was dealing with the same issue. We flooded about a month ago. I left everything to dry out with a dehumidifier. Went down this morning to see if she'd light. No luck. Did everything you did in this video, but I was getting no moisture out of my pan. Inspecting the piolet gas line, I found the little cap between the gas line and piolet nozzle was clogged. Cleaned it out with a guitar string, put it all back together, and we're back in business. This video helped a lot. Thanks. Liked and subbed.

My most sincere appreciation for your video. I was feeling depressed dreading that I was going to have to spend $1000 for a new water heater. I decided to follow your video step by step and it worked! Thanks a lot, brother.

One thing you might want to do where you think water has collected in the bottom preventing the air from reaching the burner is to drill a small hole (maybe 5/8 or so) close to the bottom of the tank on the side. If water is trapped, it will flow out from the hole. After draining, screw a plug in the drilled hole.

Great information Steve! I have exactly the same problem right now save one step! Basement had several inches of water in it. 4 year old Lochinvar gas water heater! Took out burner assembly, found no water in it. Clean as a whistle! This has the Honeywell thermostat unit and air supply from the bottom screen only. Cleaned that was not bad at all. Reinstalled burner assembly. Pilot light lights quickly. Thermopile starts the one flash blink every few seconds. But burner will not ignite! Checked overheat reset button and all I could with a Fluke multimeter. Like you said they overengineer all this crap now. Should I junk it?

Steve... did you see how orange the flame got when you took the screws out and let the air in, that's from the water also known as humidity. same as the video you did about your gas stove when you were running the humidifier. Hopefully it will dry out and he won't have any more problems.

Thanks for the great video - I don't see a sediment trap on the gas valve. Maybe not the reason for the clogged pilot orifice this time, but it could be at some point. Is the intake on the very bottom of the water heater ( would like to see a link for a photo)?

Yessiree, would have been better to have placed that water heater on an elevated stand or some concrete blocks like he said. It would help in two ways, working on it as well as flood intrusion.

Never liked putting a water heater on the basement floor. I alway sit them on a 6” to 18” platform, depending on available head room. Also easier to work on when sitting on the platform.

Homeowner insurance policies pay for water damage that comes from above ground or within the residence such as a busted pipe, leaking water heater/faucet/toilet/shower or roof leaks. They do not cover water damage from "rising" water such as "surges" from the ocean. Then there is "wind driven" water damage that I believe is also excluded. All those folks down there should be looking for flood insurance to help with the gap in homeowners insurance.

they sometimes require that in garages for the flammable fumes but they usually don't require it in basements a lot of water heaters would hit ceiling almost in these old basements you have no room to raise them up much
