I am so glad you did this video. Ever since I discovered Gator Guards, I've ordered them a few times and love them. Comparing them to the floating frames,the GGs seem to me to be the superior option. I would love to get more books graded, but I just don't have the available funds. I primarily like to use the guards for my signed books,plus I love the options of different colors and mix and matching the screws to fit the comic.

I agree, the amount of time involved, how well the Gator Guards are constructed, and the option to personalize with different colored screws makes a huge difference. They really do look incredible! I love my first DIY option but don't know that I would keep redoing this process while I can definitely picture more comics in Gator Guards

I'm so glad I could help showcase a new company/option for you. If your company can figure out how to display connecting covers, I'm all ears!! I eventually will see if there's an option similar to the floating frame for the connecting covers, but I don't want to have to meticulously measure 3-5 comics just to get it right.

I've had a good experience with Gator Guards so far. An added benefit is that there are the slight cutouts on the inside of the plastic halves that minimize how much your book is sandwiched when they are closed together. Wish the price was a little lower though.
@MarriedwithComics

Thanks! I definitely agree with you that the Gator Guard doesn't smush the comics, which can cause additional damage if you're not careful. I think we all wish they were a bit cheaper but it seems like the cheaper alternatives come with an extra cost of time, quality, or a not-so-great display.

I'm so glad to find this video especially with what's been happening with grading companies, specifically CGC (Black Flag/Acetategate). I've seriously considered Gator Guard as a CGC alternative.

Gator Guards are a great alternative! They're a lot cheaper but you can still display and preserve your comics. I love them!

Just subbed &!completely new to comic book collecting! I had no idea something like this existed but I will definitely purchase the Gator Guards to display any cool books I find. One thing I was curious about, is whether or not it has UV protectant built in… You may have mentioned it, I’m up early having tea for a sore throat & not feeling well so forgive me if you did. Appreciate the content & looking forward to watching more videos!

I've been using Gator Guards for quite some time now. I absolutely love them! Victor is a great dude, and has an awesome product. The floating displays are just entirely too much work, and not a very impressive payoff in my opinion. I actually did a video about using Gator Guards as an alternative to CGC. Now, more than ever, I feel it's a better option for people who are serious about simply preserving their books, as opposed to flipping them. They are a little pricey. Still cheaper than CGC. But it's still pricey enough that I can't afford to buy them as often as I'd like. But that doesn't change the fact that they are still a superior product. Thanks for the review. Loved it. Thank you so much for subscribing! I agree, especially when I did the floating frames a second time, it's so much work! I will say months after creating this video when I had another round of comics to display they went into Gator Guards. We aren't even sending as many comics to CGC as we once hoped to. The prices are too high, the wait is too long sadly, and I hear too many horror stories about damaged comics or improper grades. I'm delighted to stick with Gator Guard and Victor, who I completely agree is incredible!!!

Ooooh so I think I’m gonna still use your previous free floats for my keys that won’t be graded. I feel like they display better on the wall and just paint the metal to match my walls. But may do a few gator guards for shelf purposes.
@MarriedwithComics

Sounds like a fantastic plan to me! The floating frames are designed to be anchored in the wall, which will look really slick! Paint the screws and it'll look even better! I agree, the Gator Guards look great on shelves, especially next to the slabs. It's a good and a bad thing to have so many options. I just want to display it all. Lol!

I was surprised that you showed X-Men #24. I hadn't been collecting X-Men when that issue came out, but I did pick up the Direct edition from my LCS back then on the strength of the cover (yours appears to be a Newsstand copy). Thanks for the vid...!

I love Rogue and Gambit! They're definitely my favorite X-men but that's all tying back to my love of the animated series as a child. I'll catch up on the comics eventually. This cover was definitely one I'd been hunting for. I'm glad you grabbed it back when it was released!

Excellent review. I think it really comes down to how much work dyou want to put into it. I got enough crafty/shop projects at home i would rather let gator guard take this one off my hands, especially for the price. I will say the 11x17's looks soooo good. Art gallery style.

Thanks! I agree, for the time and effort the small price difference between the 8.5x11" vs. the Gator Guards just doesn't make sense. I still like the 11x17" for the really eye catching signed comics, but will definitely keep those to rarer comics that are worth the extra time.

Really enjoyed this comic craft series. I really enjoy DIY projects (my omnis are all in bookshelves I've built myself) but I have to say I'll definitely take the Gator Guard over the floating frames. Between the measuring, clamping, attempting the cut with the mitre saw (you're a bolder person than me!), I'll take the extra cost and go with the Gator!

Thank you!! That's amazing you built your own bookshelves! I will admit after putting the 2 displays together back to back, I prefer Gator Guards. I still like the big floating frames for special comics, but there's no way I'm displaying all of my favorites in them.

Gator Guard: (a) Quick assembly; (b)center position built in; (c) reversible, reusable/replaceable; (d) no extra materials, assemble anywhere Floating Frame: (a) Longer assembly, much bigger time investment; (b) center position variable based on accurate measurements; (c) one-time use; (d) need extra materials and assembly space

I thought at first that the logo and brand name would be a bit distracting but I honestly didn't notice it very much. Yes, I was distracted by how cool it looks, but it didn't deter from the comic. For some of the other companies that chose a larger, custom logo it may be more noticeable and could potentially draw your eye away from the comic.
