In this Physics video in Hindi for class 12 we explained one application of Gauss' theorem. We derived electric field due to infinitely long charged wire. We can easily derive the formula for electric field with gauss' theorem.
Gauss' theorem states that the total electric flux through a closed surface is equal to 1/ ɛ₀ times the magnitude of the charge enclosed.
In this derivation we considered a cylindrical Gaussian surface with the long charged wire as its natural axis. The electric flux produced is the charge contained inside the cylinder divided by the absolute permittivity of the medium. The charge contained by the cylinder is the product of the height of the cylindrical Gaussian surface and linear charge density in that wire.
