A masterful example of Dance Interpretation, and theatrics. That look Cyd gives him with her cigarette-priceless. Her leg Extensions-priceless. Everything about her-priceless, and kudos to Gene. They were well paired. RIP to both, now dancing in Heaven.

Cyd Charisse was absolutely BEAUTIFUL in this dance sequence! As a former Assistant Costume Designer for the movies, I always thought that the BEST flapper dress ever designed was worn by Miss Charisse. Monochromatic blue shades and emerald green have always been my favorite colors. Everything she wore for this sequence fit perfectly, the dress, the satin shoes, her nylons, the jewelry and especially the hairstyle. In my opinion, she's the quintessential flapper of all time! Thank you, my dear friend!

Cyd Charisse in heels had to be at least 2 -3 inches taller than Kelly, but the man didn't care, he chose her for that dance sequence because he knew she was THE hottest, classiest, sexiest dancer of all in that era! I admire both Kelly & Astaire; they knew Cyd was taller, but it didn't matter to either man; they also knew she was THE hottest dancer on the big screen in those days.----Credit to both! -------It's just not possible for us today, to realize just how smoking-hot that sequence was ; for 1952 audiences, it was a landmark moment!------------WolfSky9

Actually, Gene Kelly (star, choreographer and director) made Cyd the hottest female dancer at MGM by putting her in the flapper dress and Louise Brooks wig and teaching her jazz dance. Before SITR, Charisse was one of the Studio's resident ballet dancers and wasn't making an impact. Genius Gene Kelly made her a star and the rest is history.

I wrote Ms. Charisse a gushy fan letter back in the 1980's when I was in college- and promptly forgot about it. About 3 months later, she mailed me back a small B&W photo of herself with a very tiny autograph and 'thank you' scribbled onto it. Still makes me tear up to this day. In my own way I got to meet this long-legged green goddess. May she dance in the heavens forever.

All were fine dancers, and I couldn't pick the best. I do know that Cyd had the most beautiful legs in history, that's undeniable. Poor Vera Ellen's legs, which were thin to begin with, looked awful by the time she did "White Xmas." Ann Miller was always fun, especially when she had some guys to work with who were in her class, like in "Kiss Me, Kate." She steals the movie.

I was on a double date back in high school when I first saw this in 1979. We didn't think anything of it until this woman came on screen: emerald green dress, short, black, Louise Brooks bob, cigarette holder, one ridiculously long leg. And I promise you, every male in the audience was heard to say, "bwaaah..." The leg sauntering upward inspired my own date to mumble under her breath, "that little bit--." (She'd always admired Ms. Charisse's gams, but never really saw what they could do until now. At any rate, she came to the movie to see Gene Kelly. So in the end we were both happy.) The following dance is the closest thing to R-rated seduction in a G-rated film ever created. The pullback of Charisse into Kelly's arms at 2:08 actually brought catcalls, whistles, and "uh-oh's" from the mostly college crowd, it was so cool. And it is actually topped a few minutes later with the same woman wearing her hair down, in diaphanous white, twirling a 2500-foot long piece of billowing silk around her body. I mean, who does that?!!
