Yeah look at George's arms, they're like fucking tree trunks. George was a hard puncher the first time around but I'd argue Foreman was an even bigger puncher in his comeback. He was just so fat, slow and ponderous good fighters could dance rings around him but if he ever landed something big and flush, look out. Moorer ate the old Foreman 1-2 late in the fight. Hell the second 1-2 the right hand came in so hard it split his lip causing Moorer to just bleed like crazy when he went down. George Foreman in my mind is probably the second or third hardest punching fighter of all-time, with #1 being Earnie Shavers. Earnie was 6'1" and he could absolutely level a guy with a single punch, watch his knockdown of Larry Holmes in their second fight. Stamina and general defensive problems kept Earnie from being a champion but watching some of his old fights the guy had dynamite in his right hand!
@josedejesus765

Foremon did say shavers hit him the hardest. Espn ranked him as the hardest hitter that's why I stated that. It's crazy cuz he didn't look like he was putting anything behind those punches but damn they were packing a lot of power.

Yeah, I think George is at least #2 of all-time. What's interesting about George is that in his comeback he was so slow he had to club people to knock them out and still managed to knock out several fighters, most of who sucked but still he did win spectacularly.

@Psalmanazar1

+Steven Yourke I agree, and it's even better: that humiliation in Zaire was actually two decades earlier. This was 1994, the Rumble in the Jungle was 1974. It's just unbelievable that he was able to (a) win a championship 20 years after losing his first one, and (b) completely leave boxing for a 10-year period in between. Boxing is a young man's game, and is incredibly grueling. A year off is too long for most people. Just one of the most freakish athletic achievements ever.

Hardest hitter is either Foreman or Earnie Shavers (who he never fought, so couldn't compare). Some people who had the joy of fighting both of them say Shavers hit harder, but it's a mute point. Point is, power is the last thing to go, so don't stand toe to toe with one of if not the best power punchers. Also want to give credit to Cooney (the white guy Foreman knocked out in 4 minutes before the Holyfield fight). 4 minutes with Cooney was enough for Foreman to put him as one of the top 3 hardest punchers he faced or trained with.

I used to wonder why boxers lift their head after a couple seconds of being down, but not do everything they can to get up and beat the count (an example of this is 41:45). But having been knocked out playing football, I can tell you why. When a person gets knocked out, they usually only stay out for a split-second, but the reason they don't hop back up is because it takes about 10 seconds just to remember where you are and what's going on. By the time Michael Moore regained conscience, and spent about 10 seconds remembering who and where he was and what was happening, it was too late to beat the count. That's what happens 9/10 when a boxer get's knocked out, and it's why they don't hop back to their feet.

Until that last angle, it's really hard to understand how much force George generates, but you can see how his hip generates so much power with his tree trunk arms and sledge hammer fist...what a beautiful freak...I watched this fight with my Dad and I remember running around the house screaming when this knockout happened.

Some of us were stunned that a supposedly "too old" man who also supposedly "lost his edge" 20+ years ago in Africa before this fight could somehow land a 1-2 chin check that was so powerful it floored a better-conditioned man half his age, while everybody and their mom was screaming in joy as if they won the lottery once the ref counted 10 and George looked into the skies as if God told him "You're welcome!".

I don't remember anyone being shocked after the fight that Moore lost. By round 10, he was clearly boxing score card complacent. And got too comfortable against a boxing legend. In his defense however, it's not a bad thing to be beaten by George Foreman, lol. The criticism would've been more like, = You were 35 wins and ZIPPO losses! And l heard a 45 year man old took you out??? Who the hell did you lose to? Moore = "Uhh, George Foreman." Them = "Oh. Ummm. Never mind."

Moorer said Foreman "got lucky" with those 1-2 punches, that Foreman couldn't have planned this fight as he said he did after the fight. But you don't become heavyweight champion of the world at age 45 by just "getting lucky". Moorer you were so full of yourself, you underestimated old George's experience. Plus, luck in the end is not entirely random, it is mastered so that when you take the risks it will work your way. That's definitely experience, not just "random things happening in your opponent's favor". Specially when you didn't obey your corner, when it was needed.

@Froggy Noddy big george hand knit a perfect confort zone to moorer since round one, encouraging him to turn in his own power the whole time. also its not the last punch that KO'd moorer its the 1-2 just before, all he hear is ringing he step back hust a little and plant himself rigth into the big man power he served him the same recipe but with a rigth hook and down he goes

Watched the 10th round again; Moorer was clearly gassed and could not move and punch effectively. He was constantly beat to the punch and even tried running away a couple of times, without success. I'm starting to think that those clumsy glancing shots from Foreman earlier in the fight did a lot more damage on Moorer than they appeared.

And that's what made Big George so great, he had so much power in his hands the true strength can be masqueraded where a simple jab can do so much damage. Those simple jabs he delivered to Moorer in the early rounds really left their mark at the very end.

Even more than his power Foreman's determination and chin are inspirational. So many natural born punchers get disheartened after getting badly outboxed for a few rounds. George never stops believing in his power, he just calmly shrugs off all these big shots and moves back in range to try again, over and over. What an amazing human being.

I watched this fight when I was 17 at a bar just east of Cleveland. We had a feeling that George still had his puncher's chance, I thought it would be a better match-up than the fight itself actually was. Moorer probably fought the best he ever did at heavyweight up until that last round. It was shocking even though we knew George had that chance. It's still shocking, I still get emotional seeing it again.

The point is that Moorer is clearly giving him pitty pat punches to set himself up to get hit. Man when Foreman hit Moorer with thst straight right, he split his lip open!! you call that a circus?? The more I look at it, I don't view this as a one punch knockout. George was hitting Moorer with a lot of big, heavy shots particularly in the 10th round before the final right hand. Even though they didn't all look spectacular, they definitely took their toll. Even Moorer said he was out on his feet before the final one-two
