I fully agree with your perspective here. We need to cut the useless frequencies to have a better sound with less useless tension for lack of better words. Great sharing! 👍 👍

I feel like it wouldn’t kill the mix to actually make the guitar louder at that part of the track. I’m a total noob but just what me ear was craving

And by louder I just mean turning the volume up on it not doing extra EQ work

Just lower the lead a bit and everything would be more proportional

Depends on what music you're playing. Blues and metal sounds great with more bass and low-mid but for most other genres I agree

It really depends on the guitars and pickups for example a Stratocaster generally doesn’t have alot of mids and is much more twangy and trebly because of its single coils compare to a sg with humbuckers which doesn’t have a lot of treble to it and is a much more warmer sound to it

Maybe for pop what you did is good, but for metal and hard rock the rhythm you presented is thin and weak IMO. It's well mixed so it's all about personal preference too. The context you presented it in makes it very hard to judge because there's a lead being played, so maybe the cut in frequencies could be intentional to give that lead space in the EQ.

All of this is dependent on context - what works in one track may not work at all in the next. This just a very common technique used in more pop styled music. For Rock the approach is definitely different.

@@NathanJamesLarsen This sounds like rock to me .... I'm tired of all that metal junk that's pure low end with Cookie Monster singing on top and a million double kicks happening 24/7. When everything is 'Heavy' nothing really is. To me a track like this one is much tougher and 'heavy' sounding than most of the junk these so called 'metal' guys are producing lately.
