Those signs are so cool - I wish I could get my hands on one. There is a picture in the showroom at work with a big sign above one of the stores in BC “Finning Tractor Company -Caterpillar, and John Deere dealer” you would never see three large competitors like that under one roof now days. As I understand the IH and John Deere brands were mostly to sell implements to compliment the Caterpillar tractors for field work. Glad you got the leak fixed, you’ve been busy!

I just watched the video before with the new old cab. I think you should try and track to Canada and bring the original machine home to fit that cab back on. I don’t think that one would need a full nut and bolt to still display the cab. I enjoyed watching your buddy pull start that one in Canada. GOT TO LOVE THE OLD IRON. Keep up the good work.

My hat off to Tim for finding one of the most hard to obtain pieces. Same also with Toby who fixed a leak only in 3days now that is the dedication even I can't compare myself with. Hope the show goes well for you. Interesting sign it seems it was a shop that served 3 brands? I have seen something similar in Canada but so far my understanding was IH, CAT and John Deere had there own separate services. But in smaller rural areas it was not probably very feasible to have 3 separate buildings rather have it all united under one vendor. I might be mistaken on it but so far it is my understanding that there was a very clear and logical reason behind it. The sign has preserved very nice and im sure you will find a good place to hang it to.

I've been watching allot of your videos learning about these d2 tractors and I've noticed Ziegler signs in your shop and now I stumbled upon this video and that being said Jordan isn't all that far from me. I'm watching a d2 on a auction with a home made blade on it I've talked to the owner I have plans to go see it before the auction ends and do a full once over on it and hear it run check all the fluids the pony motor end play the steering clutch adjustments all that I've learned from your channel. I work at a gravel pit we run mostly old equipment but nothing nearly this old except we have a 966b with a d333 and our wash plant generator is powered by a d342. If I end up with this d2 on this auction I will maybe have to figure out how to hit you up if i have questions etc. I mainly collect old case tractors letter series and 30 series. I'm not sure if you keep your home city private from KZitem or not but if not where abouts are you located? Thanks, Isaac

In theory, if the rust comes off with little effort, it's new. You can also look inside the holes. If it's hammered (as it would be back in the day, because these came as blanks and they'd use a capped nail) it's original, if it's drilled... well, likely false. You can tell because a hammered hole has a different shape to a drilled one. Lastly, check all the cracks in the enamel, if they're all dirty with the same kind of color (usually they use shoe polish) it's new. If there's variations, then it's old. Also, the lack of cracks in the enamel tell a story as well. Old stuff is always chuck full of micro fractures, especially signs like these that got heated up in the sun.

Been there done that! More than once I have discovered a problem just before a tractor show or pull. Spent many late nights fixing things that were just fine before I got ready to load the tractor. I had the mag. seize up on the John Deere A just before a tractor pull. I lived in Michigan at the time. Made a high speed road trip to Steiner's, lucky they had a new Mag. in stock.

Well First, although I have not finished watching yet I am curious about your visitors abode. I know it is tough on tractors, dozers, and other equipment to keep it out but is there anything that works half way decent especially for vehicles, (what do you do for your Diva truck when it is parked for the winter?) now that I finished watching, sure glad that you got her fixed up. I do wish I could see her, but even though I will be in Stillwater Friday I do not think I will be able to make it. 😢

To add to my last comment I went and checked out that d2 on that auction this evening. From learning from your videos everything looked good to me minus the left steering clutch was stuck. We tried pulling it with the owners super M and I was holding the left steering clutch released and I was stopping him using the right brake in neutral. Any input on how I could free that steering clutch up if I end up with it? I'm thinking pull it with my case 500 and try harder pulling with a heavier tractor or pull it with our d4c at the gravel pit. Would soaking the steering clutches in anything help I read a forum that somebody soaked them in kerosene is that a bad idea? I'd rather not tear it apart right now but if I have to I have to. He said he ran it a month ago and both clutches were releasing. On a side note do you ever go to almelund threshing show? I grew up as a kid going to the Scott Carver threshing show myself. Do you happen to know Gary and Wes boettcher? Gary has been one of the guys helping put on that show he used to work for the family trucking company Ristow trucking. Hope your eyes are doing better
