Thank you so much for this I just went to confession because I had been unkind to “neighbor” by saying mean things and Gossiping. My priest told me we always have “a choice” Which really struck a cord within me. I have learned to value Confession (I am a convert and struggled with pride and what would the Priest think of me, etc) Going to follow your advice and do an examination-of conscience nightly so I can keep myself, with God’s help, on the right road. Thank you and God Bless

Its so hard for me to accept a man assuming the role of God and acting as God by listening to my sins and absolving me of my sins. Especially since Jesus himself warned us that no man on earth is to be called father since we have only one Father. If it were not for treating men like God and calling them by His Name of Father, I would convert to catholicism tomorrow!! But I do agree 100% that a heartfelt confession and repentence of sins before God is extremely vital to a spiritual life. A truly contrite heart is the only sacrifice that God asks of us at the altar. Open your heart completely to Jesus and offer it all to Him. Great content as always, thank you!

Hey, appreciate your honesty! Listen I think there’s been a few misconceptions about the priesthood and God Himself. The priest is not the one acting as God but it is God Himself acting through the priest to forgive sins. They are merely the doorway in the confessional.

Hey...this priest has it all pretty much figured out, that type is starting to become rare...God bless him! But to add to that I had a priest once who told me to skip the list, skip the written Act of Contrition and do the whole thing from the heart...I also confessed a sin 50 years old and he told me going back that far was not necessary because I'm not the same person I was then...he said sometimes God forgets...interesting priest he was...

Amen to that, Chris! I’m with you in thinking that the priest you went to for confession is an interesting priest. A sin unconfessed is a sin unconfessed - it needs to be confessed and forgiven for your soul to be clean again. God bless, Hope

Does a future sin add to the burden of what Christ already suffered on the cross? I have an intuition that Jesus felt the pain of every sin ever committed and all the suffering ever caused when he was on the cross. But I'm not sure if this is doctrinal or not?

What about I am disabled and I have asked for months and months for a priest to come hear my Confession from a Church maybe fifteen minutes away. They don’t even say why. I told them I would meet them at the door that they do not have to come in. If their concern is covid. So what do you suggest?

We're so sorry to hear that, and we hope you can get Confession very soon. It's hard to know what their reason may be. Have you tried contacting any other priests and explaining your situation? Even if they live a little farther away, maybe they'd be open to it. Are there any religious orders near you? They often offer great services. Again, we're so sorry to hear you haven't been able to access the Sacrament of Reconciliation.

😢 So sorry to hear that. A true priest cares for souls. I recommend you contact the closest FSSP or SSPX parish. They will come to you because they have the Faith and believe in the Sacraments.

So glad you’re here, Cheryl! Great question. The main thing of course is that your are confessing them sincerely and making an honest effort not to do them again. After that, and depending on the sin it may look slightly different, you’d want to avoid the temptation as much as possible and build a virtue to block the vice. For example, if the sin is lust then avoid the situation/setting that tends to lead to that sin; or if it’s gluttony, build the virtue of temperance. From a Catholic education and experience and time as a missionary those are the things I would look at. Hope it can be of some help! Katie

Hello Father Columba. Could you comment on this, please? I haven't been to confession (or communion) for over 30 years. Now I realise that I have this "big bag full of sins", of all kinds plus the ones that I cannot even remember in this such long time. Would you have any advice for a case like myself? I am lost as to where to start. I feel overwhelmed at the idea of going to confess with a 30-year list of sins. I don't think the priest that day would be very happy... Many thanks in advance.

Hello, thank you so much for your comment and that is wonderful news about coming back after 30 years. Please know we are all praying for you at Called to More and I will ask Father to as well once he’s back from retreat. I think just the opposite will happen- you will make that priest’s day who will only be delighted to hear you’re coming Home to the sacraments after 30 years away. Also, all our sins, whether we remember them or not, are forgiven at Confession - though it is a sin to *intentionally* refrain from mentioning a sin. But if it’s not intentional, consider the forgotten sin a forgiven sin. God bless you and your journey ❤️

Thank you so much Father Columba, I find your videos so helpful. I am new to the Catholic faith. I am trying to learn as much as I can and do prayers daily. Today was my 3rd time at church. I try to follow along what others do there but I can feel a bit lost and unworthy at times. I have come home and make notes while watching your video. I find all you share comforting and helpful on my journey. I really appreciate your guidance. I will put this into practice. Thank you again

Dude, sometimes I'd rather go to hell than confess my sins. It is embarrassing admitting you can be petty, vain, superficial, attention seeking, and I think the hardest to confess is how much I care about celebrities and watching pornography. I freaking hate confessing those. I feel so vain, immature, and like I have poor self control

Maybe if you remember Jesus was stripped naked for you before He hung on that cross and you could take it back for Him by going to confession. Taking the embarrassment that is rightly ours. It just might help you bear the shame? God Bless
