Thank you for the great overview of using the PA1010D module. The module is streaming data continuously after the setup() routine is done. This generates a lot of traffic on the I2C bus. In my hardware setting there are further I2C sensors at the same bus. Therefore my question: is it possible to stop streaming and set the device in a request-response-mode? I would be very happy about a code example :) Best wishes

Interesting question! In my experience, GPS sensors usually use UART to continuously stream the GPS data. Maybe you use the UARTminstead of I2C? I am not aware of I2C-based request-response for GPS data :( Sorry!

Hi I'm using the adafruit GPS and the new M0 Lo-Ra boards I have the GPS transmitting the receiver is receiving but I can't get the receiver 2 print the latitude longitude on the serial port of the ESP 32 web server Board . I just can't figure out how to get Arduino boards to print on each others serial monitor all it has to do is print latitude longitude on the serial monitor of the ESP 32 and it will automatically refresh my Google map widget

Can this be used in a uniden scanner to add to a rs232 ttl

Hi there, I'm using ic2 and for some reason not able to get a lock after it working great for a while. I keep reeading that the flashing LED is only active if there is a lock, however I don't get any output. Does this indicate I have an issue with wiring or is this incorrect? Thanks!
@sayanee

I'm assuming by "lock" you mean a "GPS fix". Since it did work for you before, I am guessing the wiring is not an issue. For me, the first GPS fix always takes a bit longer. Ensure it's in the clear view of the skies / outdoors and give it around 5-10 minutes.

@@sayanee I seem to have a strange, but consistent behaviour: after spamming for 100 or so requests for a about 30 seconds, I then instantly get 110 satellites and a fix. Without this: the much slower read never rtreives anything. However, if I spam requests as above, then switch to the slower request, it works fine after this without issue. My conclusion currently is that there is a build up empty results from a lack of requests on the internal buffers, I effectively clear this by this initial spam. So strange!

I have some earlier taken NMEA sentences. How do we add them in our Arduino UNO code?
@sayanee
3 жыл бұрын
What do you want to do with the raw NMEA sentences? If you want to parse them and get the lat/long information, and it is a one-time affair, then maybe just decode them manually by referring to the NMEA sentence information: aprs.gids.nl/nmea/

Heyy, i have a projekt to build a GPS Speedometer using GTU7 Gps modul and i2c 128x64 Display. But i cant find the right code or sketch for my projekt. Can someone help me:( (i‘m a little bit confused now)

I recently purchased this module and am using the I2c protocol through the connection ports on the gps unit to be sent to an MKR 1010Wifi. When the PPS indicator light is active my serial monitor only displays zeros for the date, time, fix, etc. I tried using the pin headers and an UNO and it did work. Any suggestions?

It would be really hard to debug this remotely, so I can suggest a few things: 1. Test I2C on the MCU: Try another non-GPS I2C sensor with MKR 1010Wifi to ensure the correct I2C pins are used. 2. Test GPS module: Try to use the GPS module via the UART connections with MKR 1010Wifi and ensure you get a fix first. 3. Test the 1PPS: Is the 1PPS blinking every 1 second? "light is active" seems like it is blinking more than once per second. Check with the seller/manufacturer what does this blinking pattern mean.

@@sayanee I've gotten the gps unit to work using both i2c and UART on the arduino Uno, but even using wires directly to the SDA/SCL pins fails to work on the MKR. I believe the issue lies in the difference in processors between the two devices. The Uno being AVR, and the MKR being SAMD/ARM.

@@devondevriendt Hhhmmm interesting. As seen at 5:07 I used RobotDyn M0 mini whose MCU is SAMD21G with Arduino firmware (with UART though). But here is a basic tutorial on using the MCU SAMD with PA1010D with the I2C interface. Hope it helps 🙏🏼Keep looking and maybe try other I2C sensors on the MKR maybe.

Is the Arduino running slave mode in the I2C example? So any received data from the GPS I2C is immediately sent to the serial port?
@sayanee
4 жыл бұрын
I don't think so. The Arduino MCU is still the master that uses the slave address in GPS.begin(): github.com/adafruit/Adafruit_GPS/blob/master/src/Adafruit_GPS.cpp#L148

@@sayanee I see. My previous experience in GPS modules are they just spew data and it's up to the CPU to receive and parse it.
@sayanee
4 жыл бұрын
@@hzrnbugsie That's via UART right? Yes, GPS modules are usually simple enough that they spew out the data via the TX pin. I2C was available for this module, but I'm still going to use the UART protocol.

@@sayanee Yes, this has always been the case for UART mode. I guess an I2C interface makes sense if you only need GPS data on-demand
