Hi there. I am John Bond from Riverwinds Consulting, and this is Publishing Defined.
This is the fifth and final part in a five-part video series on Getting Your Book Published. This part is called Promoting and Marketing Your Book.
You have reached the final mountain top. You open a box with a copy of your new book. Success. But the journey is not completely over.
What will the publisher be doing to get people to buy copies? The most important step the publisher brings to the table is distribution. Getting your book out to Amazon, Barnes and Noble, BookShop.org, the independent stores, and a host of other online and brick-and-mortar partners for them to consider stocking or purchasing. This is no small task.
They will also execute other promotional efforts, depending on the market and type of book you have created. This might include book reviews, sending copies to influencers, social media ads, and so much more. You will want to understand exactly what their plans are.
But you will need to do your part. Authors understand their content and readers better than the publisher. And they are the biggest advocates. So, whether it is your own social media efforts, speaking, or connecting with podcast or video channel creators, you will want to spread the word far and wide.
One important note about your promotional efforts. Do content marketing. That is, instead of pitching, “buy my new book,” educate them for free and make them want more, or to buy your book.
Check in with your publisher if they will be pursuing international or foreign language editions.
