Nice finds Jenni! I was headed that way on my trip, I stayed at Beatty & early the next day, was gonna go thru DV & head to Alabama Hills area. As soon as I got into the hills of DV, I had a code light come on, i stopped & checked everything, it was all good visiually. But i decided against continuing thru DV with an unknown code. So I made my way back to Beatty, theres a tire place there & the guy had a code reader, it was the thermostat, which no one in town had. So I returned to Pahrump to get one! ahhh good times! The Green Monster Mine is up in the Sierras. That big Ore Bin that you showed was used by some smaller operations that were up Mazourka Canyon. One of which is still active. You just needed to keep going up Mazourka Road into the canyon to see the mines. You can drive into the Reward Mine. I've got two videos of it. Reward is directly across from Manzanar Detention Center on the west face of the White Mountains.

Holy cow! I just went on youtube to see if you posted anything, and not a split second after the page opened, there you are! 🙋♂️ EDIT: I was told a tale by a local there, about 10 years ago...I was told that the original Kearsarge townsite was in a canyon that led upto the mine. Across the valley to the west, you have the Alabama Hills, and the townsite of Alabama. If you know your history, the USS Kearsarge was an iron-clad ship used by the Union Army during the Civil War, and was used very effectively against Confederate camps. Both towns were settled by veterans of the Civil War, and that's where the tale gets interesting... It seems that there was once a good water source above the townsite, which was dammed off, and used for both the town, and the mine, and legend has it, the (Confederate) veterans from Alabama snuck in one night, and dynamited the dam, which in turn, destroyed the original (Union) town of Kearsarge! Don't know if anybody was killed or not. Thus, the new Kearsarge was built along the rail line. Don't know if there's any truth to that story or not, but it was entertaining. I just drove through there on Tuesday, on my way back to Reno, and I always wanted to see that station site - but I kept forgetting exactly where it is! There is a dirt road that runs from, I think, Dolomite, to Laws, and it's not bad at all - it pretty much follows the path of the Slim Princess. Glad to see you discovering her, and all her stops!

When I clime up something like that and there's a road, I don't walk up the road. The reason is that the road is hard packed and covered in little rocks that can roll under your feet. I walk up next to the road where the material is likely to be soft and I can get traction and not slip.

We've driven up to the Reward Mine adit in our Chevy Tahoe. The only reason we didn't drive in was that I wasn't sure the bulky SUV would fit all the way down the adit to the turn around and backing it out just didn't seem like a good idea! The only really heavy going was making it over the Owens River - those crossings are (were at the time) deep in soft sand. Good video!

Pet cemeteries are just as good as human cemeteries, maybe better, if they're well marked. When my cat died in the '90s, he was cremated and "disposed" by the vet, but I went out to the pet cemetery at San Francisco's military Presidio and left a marker for him. It was a wonderful place for a grieving pet friend, as it contained the graves and markers for decades and decades of the pets of soldiers who had been stationed there. Give it a try sometime. I guess you don't find so many whole glass insulators out there these days. When I was a kid, there was quite an industry of people collecting and selling the insulators that fell off old power and telephone poles. I used to have a few, but they are all gone. Now I have a bin full of plastic tail light shards from traffic accidents in the city. Might make a decent mosaic someday.
