INDUSTRIAL SOCIETY AND ITS FUTURE Introduction 1. The Industrial Revolution and its consequences have been a disaster for the human race. They have greatly increased the life-expectancy of those of us who live in “advanced” countries, but they have destabilized society, have made life unfulfilling , have subjected human beings to indignities, have led to widespread psychological suffering(in the Third World to physical suffering as well) and have inflicted severe damage on the natural world. The continued development of technology will worsen the situation. It will certainly subject human beings to greater indignities and inflict greater damage on the natural world, it will probably lead to greater social disruption and psychological suffering, and it may lead to increased physical suffering even in “advanced” countries. 2. The industrial-technological system may survive or it may break down. If it survives, it MAY eventually achieve a low level of physical and psychological suffering, but only after passing through a long and very painful period of adjustment and only at the cost of permanently reducing human beings and many other living organisms to engineered products and mere cogs in the social machine. Furthermore, if the system survives, the consequences will be inevitable: There is no way of reforming or modifying the system so as to prevent it from depriving people of dignity and autonomy. 3. If the system breaks down the consequences will still be very painful. But the bigger the system grows the more disastrous the results of its breakdown will be, so if it is to break down it had best break down sooner rather than later . 4. We therefore advocate a revolution against the industrial system . This revolution may or may not make use of violence; it may be sudden or it may be a relatively gradual process spanning a few decades. We can’t predict any of that. But we do outline in a very general way the measures that those who hate the industrial system should take in order to prepare the way for a revolution against that form of society. This is not to be a POLITICAL revolution. Its object will be to overthrow not governments but the ecoqnomic and technological basis of the present society. 5. In this article we give attention to only some of the negative developments that have grown out of the industrial-technological system. Other such developments we mention only briefly or ignore altogether. This does not mean that we regard these other developments as unimportant. For practical reasons we have to confine our discussion to areas that have received insufficient public attention or in which we have something to say. For example, since there are well-developed environmental and wilderness movements, we have written very little about environmental degradation or the destruction of wild nature, even though we consider these to be highly important.

I just got a myrmecia nigreceps colony. My favorite thing about them is the super aggressive nature of the workers and queen. I fed them a mealworm yesterday, and the moment I opened the lid, all the workers suddenly lifted their heads and stared at my, warning me away. I really love their eyesight.

Hello AK, I live in the United States, do you know of any company that sells bull ants or any aussie/asian species to Americans? Now i have been keeping and breeding tarantulas for years now, and i think i have the guts for bull ants, i just would love to have a chance to raise a species that likely predates the extinction of the dinosaurs. To think that 'primative' species' of ants like these were possibly walking underfoot of massive dinosaurs is so exciting and humbling. I would love to receive an ant nest from you, but i am also honored to to have found your channel as i find it to be relaxing and informative to watch and i can really appreciate all the work that goes into making each episode. Thanks in advance.

My favorite ants are parasitic lasius like Subumbratus which are hard to keep but very rewording when those beautiful orange workers emerge and even more so as not much is known on these subterranean ants as you would never find workers unless you some how found a colony in a log or if you were lucky enough, see on their nuptial flight.

I later went on to make countless nests with whatever money i could make at the time, to then spending all my free time caring for them.

Have a great day everyone! My favourite thing about bull ants is the fact that they act exactly like my smooth nob-tailed gecko when hunting crickets. They hunt with their eyes, stalking their prey until they finally get a chance to precisely attack and kill their prey. I also love the fact that they stalk even you with their gigantic eyes and are sometimes or a lot of the time not afraid to defend themselves or attack you. Also congrats on 2k subs and happy one year anniversary, can’t wait to see this channel grow!

I love the myrmecia genus of ants, they are such an incredible species to watch and I'd love to own them one day! However here in poland that's going to be pretty difficult, we do however have our own amazing species like Camponotus Ligniperda which is commonly regarded as the largest ant in europe i also own strongylonaghtus testaceus which is a paristic antspecies, but what makes it different is that they don't kill their host tetramorium and live together side by side.

Although antkeeping might seems like a random and boring hobby to many people out there, to me although it looks plain, just putting your queen in test tubes, through my second year of keeping I discovered it actually required some skill and experience! When I stepped into the world of semi clastural queens, it was quite a challenge for me to found, failing numerous trapjaws and polyrhachis at the start. Now, even though I am still no way an expert at antkeeping, having two unstable polyrhachis and trapjaw colony, and one tetraponera queen that ate its eggs, I began to truly appreciate the amount of skill and experience this hobby allows for.

Like if you agree but does anyone else notice that people always think that ants are just a tiny thing in the world that don't matter and don't have a job. I'm new to the hobby and honestly bull ants (especially Jack jumpers) frighten me, but they simultaneously fascinate me. I live in Tasmania so bull ants are about as common as your standard black ant, particularly in the bush land. Our back paddock is home to multiple colonies of bull ants, and Jack jumpers. They are so fun to watch, so full of life and I feel like they're almost like little puppies, jumping and running around taking on anything that enters their territory. I think one day I would like to keep them but they're definitely intimidating as a beginner lol. So jealous of your green ant and gold tailed bull ants, they're not native to tas and we have harsh biosecurity enforcements so unfortunately I can't keep them. Certainly makes me appreciate our native species more though x keep up the awesome work
