For anyone who is looking for info about Picture Mode and Black equalizer being disabled, or wondering about G-Sync flickering, I've added more deets in the description ^^^ (they both pretty much boil down to having HDR enabled). Thank you so much to everyone who commented for helping me get this info out there! :)

@BACustomPCs
3 жыл бұрын
@@cornthedun3015 you can play with HDR and G-Sync disabled and there won't be any flickering. But I really don't recommend using HDR with this monitor. It does very little, if anything at all and is more of a marketing label than an actual feature. True HDR is meant for 10-bit color depth or higher screens, this one uses 8-bit. The colors on this monitor already look great to me and can be adjusted to anyone's liking.

I mostly game on the PC its hooked up on and I'm glad I picked it up. NO issues in quality and the only thing i've noticed was the screen flicker w/Gsync enabled, but having used it both on and off, it comes up so infrequently it's a non issue. I'm still waiting for Hardware Unboxed to review this, as I want a bit more quantifiable data before making a purchase. There's no ultrawide at the moment that is quite as cheap as this one, and if it's on par with the other budget ultrawides... It seems like a no-brainer. From what I've been able to work out, most of the sub $1000 monitors are pretty much within margin of error in factors like colour accuracy, pixel response times, etc. So it seems to me that either you go budget VA, or you go high end IPS. The VA based ones that cost as much as (or nearly as much as) IPS based monitors seems to be mostly not worth the extra money. I have to admit though, if I buy this, and end up with such a large cluster of dim pixels, I'd probably just return it, as I wouldn't be able to ignore it once I'd seen it, and it would be a constant source of annoyance, simply know that I'd spent money on a new monitor, and it's "faulty" right off the bat.
@BACustomPCs
3 жыл бұрын
I think that if this monitor is delivered completely flawless then it's more than worth the money. But it does seem that there are a decent amount of people who unfortunately received defective monitors, myself included, if only minor. So, with that being the case, ordering one of these does feel like somewhat of a gamble. According to NewEgg ratings alone, which is not a true representation of all buyers, the majority of people seem to have gotten a good, defective-free model. But still there's no way to guarantee that you'll be so lucky. I've noticed that the larger channels that have reviewed this monitor have all received defective-free panels and given positive reviews, but don't know if they are aware of the problems that others have had. Whichever monitor you end up going for, I hope you have a good experience!

@@BACustomPCs My big fear is, that if I get something too budget, and I place it next to my boyfriend's Asus ROG Swift 34" IPS, it'll end up feeling... Sub par. His is the first gen 100Hz model though, and I know ultrawides have come a long way since then, but IPS does tend to look a lot nicer than other panel types. I am limited in funds though, so well. We'll see what I end up with. This one does seem very tempting though. As far as I can tell, it uses the same panel as half a dozen other monitors of varying quality, probably the best being the Cooler Master GM34-CF, but that one isn't available here in Norway it seems.

Like the review. I appreciate that you don't gloss over the negatives and address points made in a logical fashion. Just what I was looking for. I've seen some discussion and articles regarding the potential flickering issues and from what I can see avoiding it revolves mainly around keeping your framerate (consistently) above the LFC threshold which features like HDR and VRR can obviously impact not to mention the system hardware driving this many pixels. Having said that I am no expert and could be talking rubbish. I have one arriving tomorrow and will let you know my experience.
@BACustomPCs
3 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the kind words! I'm no expert either, but I can tell you what worked for me. Per the video description, turning off HDR in Windows + changing the DisplayPort version from 1.4 to 1.2 in the monitor menu eliminated my G-Sync flicker. And if you use an HDMI cable instead of DP, the refresh rate will be capped at 100Hz. Looking forward to hearing your experience!

@@BACustomPCs Received it today after the first one got lost by Amazon so consider this my 3 hour review. Pretty happy so far, it's not perfect but I didn't expect it to be that. Coming from a 27" Dell Ultrasharp 2560x1440 IPS my main gripe is uniformity on flat colour washes (grey/black especially) and with some minor peripheral colour changes even on small viewing angle changes but this expected with the VA panel so not really a complaint. There's a little dark banding almost down the centre of the monitor but it's really not noticeable in normal use. Overall impressed after testing for dead/dark spots/ pixels - I didn't find any. After applying rtings ICC profile and recommended settings it looks great (it wasn't 'bad' before). Reducing the brightness and upping the contrast as well as minor RGB adjustments 48-46-47 (from 50-50-50) the colour is good. Running native resolution 144hz in Windows works great, I have yet to play games on it so that's the next port of call. The joystick is easy to use, sharpness is spot on with text. GSync is enabled with the 'not validated' warning in the control panel. Slightly worried about response time movement blurring (after the EIZO test) but time will tell in real world gaming. It's certainly going to stretch my 1080's legs more than the last monitor with like 30% more pixels to drive. For the price of £439 at the time of purchase I think this is good value overall. edit: congrats on 1k subs! edit2: picture mode should be available if HDR is disabled (which the feature is a bit of a gimmick anyway)

@@ataraxiauk Thanks for coming back and sharing your experience! I really appreciate your in-depth analysis thus far. I agree with you in saying that this monitor isn't perfect, but I think it's a darn good monitor for the price. I want to reiterate to a lot of viewers that it never was going to be flawless at this price, but a bargain for the features included. Also thanks for including your color settings. I've also found the colors to be satisfactory after some tweaking, of course not professional. Feel free to come back with any noteworthy or significant experiences you may have!

LG 34UC79G 34" 21:9 IPS Curved UltraWide FreeSync Gaming Monitor is available but resolution is too low 2560 x 1080, also price is too high 870 USD. Which LG you get btw ?

@@The_Sim_Guy I got the LG 34GP83A-B. The gigabyte was a going for $599 canadian in my area and the LG was around $1100. It was definitely more expensive which was a big part in why I was hesitant but I just couldn't deal with the black smear any longer. The LG has a smaller curve too which was a bit of a bummer but not a deal breaker. Every game just feels more responsive, crisp and clear now. I hear the top of the line samsung VA has eliminated the black smear but that price is a whole different story.

The reviews that state the power cord was the source of a strange audio buzz. Did they know if it was just the cable itself or something within the monitor housing? A simple power cable swap would solve the former.

Thanks for a great review! It's easy to follow and get right to the point. Regarding the PBP, is it possible to change the screen size from 50/50 to 75/25?
@BACustomPCs
Жыл бұрын
It is possible, but PBP only has two options in the monitor settings, those being "full" and "Aspect." "Full" will stretch each input aspect ratio to fill both sides of the screen and "aspect" will use the aspect ratio of each input source. To achieve a 75/25 effect you would need to use the "aspect" setting and set one input resolution to 2580x1440 (for the 75% side) and the other input to 860x1440 (for the 25% side). This can be done by creating a custom resolution for each source in your GPU software, such as Nvidia control panel. Not as easy as some monitors, as they have presets for 75/25 PBP, but it can be done.

Were you able to utilize HDR and 144hz at the same time? I'm testing the G32QC and whenever I'm in 1440p, 165hz (or 120hz), with VRR on, my monitor defaults to 60hz when I turn on HDR in windows. Just curious if you had similar issue? Utilized dp cable that came with the monitor. Great review!
@BACustomPCs

Thanks for watching! HDR will work at 144Hz with this panel, but when HDR is on, Picture Mode is locked on Standard and Black Equalizer is inaccessible. To be honest, HDR does very little, if anything at all, on this 8-bit panel, so I keep it off. Some users have different reports of HDR causing "washed out" colors or just making the colors look brighter. Having HDR on while G-Sync is enabled also causes a slight flicker. Unless the G32QC (or any monitor) is 10-bit color depth or higher, I'd recommend leaving HDR off, as it's really just a marketing gimmick. I'm also using the included DP cable and so far none of the settings have locked me to 60Hz. I hope this helps with your testing, good luck!

If you do work that requires very accurate colors, such as Photoshop or color grading, there are tools for calibrating color accuracy that you can buy, but they cost at least ~$100. I do digital art and graphic design work on this monitor, so to try and make the colors as accurate as possible, I adjusted the color settings until they were similar to my drawing tablet.
