Thanks for this great discussion by two of my favourite people & favourite TV and movie makers. I had no idea that Palin wrote a lot. He is so quiet and pleasant it's easy to forget his great contributions to movies. I like his travel shows and like what he is trying to do with Ripping Yarns. And Gilliam is a genius.. I saw this when I was 29 and laughed so much, kids were turning around to shush me. Brilliant from start to finish and the ending brought us all back to real life. And it somehow made the fantastic adventures real too.

I was 11 years old when I begged my dad to take me to go see it. My young mind was utterly enchanted by it. Such a great memory.

I went to see the film on my 15th Birthday . My Dad said to pick a film and then we'd get pizza; films were rare in my childhood, due to distance to a theater and cost, on a teacher's salary. I was a Python fan and he was oblivious to them; but, he loved the film almost as much as I did (he adid take us to a couple of the Pink Panther films and loved those). Later, in college, while home on break, I was watching some Python, including Ken Clean Air System, with Cleese as a dim oxer, and my Dad started laughing when Cleese is jogging and suddenly comes to a stop in front of a parked car, looking around puzzled. He watched the rest of the episode, after that and had a great time.

This film made me a better person. A far more empathetic and loving soul. I was 7 years old when I saw this film. Favorite films of 1980’s-Time Bandits, Quest for Fire, Watership Down, The Hobbit, The Lord of the Rings, Excaliber, Dragon Slayer, The Emerald Forest, Picnic at Hanging Rock, The Last Wave, the last two were late 1970’s films.

I know a lot of people older than myself have their reasons as to why the Beatles are the greatest thing in the universe... but to me, the greatest thing they contributed to my life was George ensuring that this film and Life of Brian saw the light of day.

I saw Time Bandits in the theater as a kid. Dad took me. Never seen anything like it. I remember being thunderstruck by the ending. I was haunted by it. I just kept wondering what happened next to the boy. He was left all alone.

Those jolly old snobs have been responsible for some of the best comedy of the last 50 years, plus the astonishing film Time Bandits. What have you achieved recently?

yes but i think he was wrong to say that coz michael palin was right - you do have to be angry and want to do something about it and not everything is right (well not for those of us who aren't pythons anyway)
