If your only doing one piece, ie the seat, rather than making a buck, then mold, then part, you could just make a buck and do an overlay with FRP twill or plain weave cloth,yes you will need to bodywork it but if you get it good enough it will only need a small amount, it’s kinda like carbon skinning, I did a vid on making my front mudguard using that method, or just look at overlay 👍🏻 It may save a lot of time dude👍🏻

You’ve obviously seen the Motogadget switches already, but the three way with a button at the front is good for the headlight/flasher and the function button on the right. Saves confusion and big glove issues!

I'd go with fibreglass but use a split mould. Makes it a whole lot easier come release time.
@QuickBikes
Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I measured the height it would need to be and think a split mould would be best. As long as the join is really neat it should be alright I think... 😁 Trying to get it out of a single mould could be interesting 🤣😂🤔

@@QuickBikes you can minimise the joint with plastercine or wax before you start laying up.

I wish I could add a photo to these comments. Probably can I'm just to dim to work it out. I did a fibre glass seat unit and hump from scratch for my gt750. Looks awesome if I say so myself. If it gonna be painted then fibre glass is definitely the way forward.

Speaking from experience if there are any reverse curves in the part you are planning to mould then it will have to be a split mould, this more than doubles the time taken to make the mould and inevitably leads to a seam in the finished product which takes a long time to eradicate with body filler. Also any slight imperfections in the buck are amplified when the finished article is extracted from the mould. My advice would be 1. design the mould to ensure there is no possibility of a reverse curve. 2. get the buck as perfect as can be before taking the mould. 3. do not make the mould too thick and inflexible as otherwise you will not find it possible to release the product from the mould especially if the mould is deep (as yours will be from the top of the hump to the lowest edge). 4. research the best release agent possible and if it says use 3 applications before starting manufacture of the component then give it 5 applications. Easy composites website is good for tips videos and their products are good but they are certainly not the cheapest supplier. Good luck

The Road Vehicles Lighting Regulations 1989 say that a solo motor bicycle does not require a front position lamp if it's fitted with a headlamp. The MOT manual also says that a front position lamp isn't needed - "a motorcycle... fitted with a headlamp need not have a front position lamp". The MSVA manual just says that there must be a minimum of 1 white position lamp or 2 amber position lamps, and there must be a tell-tale unless the instrument panel lighting can only be switched on or off with the position lamp, so it's not really clear whether there has to be a separate sidelight as well as a headlamp. It wouldn't really make sense if the MSVA test rejected something that was both legal and allowed by the MOT test, but... UK Government. 😊 Perhaps you'll just have to ask them.

Would it be worth welding loops for securing springs on the silencer,that way I can swap over silencers easily &if it's damaged in the future u can just swap it over,which u can't do if it's permanently welded.. Ozzy 👍

You get them from Wish. They're Chinese so they take about 6 weeks to deliver. I got the same one last week, it cost £52 including delivery. I had the same one in black on my GSF650 S for about 5 years before I swapped it for the silver one, only for cosmetic reasons. They are well made and sound brilliant. If you are gunning it at high revs and sharply come off the gas it pops and bangs 😅

Funny story: A friend of mine years ago was wearing his favourite t-shirt, he wore it so often it had become paper thin, a stray spark from his angle grinder dissolved it, no flames, it just disappeared like a cigarette paper lol. All that was left was the collar. Looked like something out of a magic show. Probably should have worn overalls.
