Do all restaurants add trifal and cocum in the curry? I'm trying to make this at home but I don't have these ingredients. I want to know if I should wait and get these ingredients or if I can go ahead and make this without trifal and cocum.

@@anoushkapaul103 Well there are several ways and different varieties of curries being cooked across Goa.If you are unable to find the following ingredients its completely okay it won't be that different in terms of its taste and authenticity. Well you should try other curries too in my opinion they are way better than this regular one😉.

Hi Chef, I am from Goa & I really loved the way how you made this curry. This is the exact method of this recipe. Also the rice you mentioned is called "ukde tandul" in konkani. Please bring more such goan cuisines like chicken cafreal and recheado bangdo.

This is how we make vatan for every fish curry... I'm from devgad we also make fish curry with same preparation of vatan so i think not only goa but all the konkan region makes it same way... ❤

Hi chef I don't know if you'll read this message or not but thought of sharing my experiences with you.... my grandmother was from goa but married my grandfather who was from Mangalore..... so my mom and her siblings grew up with a taste of both the world's.... this legacy was carried on to their children (that is me and my cousins) and we too have been brought up with the same taste on our tongue..... now cooking the same dishes for our families... the recipe you cooked is perfect.... fish curry recipe in goan cuisine and Mangalorean cuisine are somewhat same though some differences like coconut and even roasting of masala ingredients before making the paste.... thanks chef for bringing back memories 🙏😊

I don't know if Chef read your message, but I'd like to say thank you from the UK for sharing that 🙂In my opinion, food is the core of all human culture. It is the thing that binds families together, and it is the thing that turns strangers into friends. Tracing the history of foods makes us realise that what we cook in one corner of the world is special and unique, but it is also the result of a long evolution that reaches far across the world. I hope I can visit Goa and Mangalore someday and taste a little of those memories for myself.

We add dry coriander seeds instead of cumin in the watan (paste). Also, Triphala is not only for flavour. It helps break down and digest the protein. Especially heaty fish like bangada. Triphala is a must in bangada curry. Given Goa's climate, you need effort for a healthy gut. So, this is not just comfort food it's a perfect balance of nutrients if you're calorie conscious.

Hello there. I m a Chef in the UK London and I m really interested in this recipe. I use to make some years back Goa Fish Curry with coconut milk and tomato paste because I couldn't find any Goan chillies but I didn't knew that I could have used Kashmiri red chillies. Just visited Goa and explored a lot of traditional goan food. And before that I had never really been a fan of fish curries as I always found them too heavy. But when I tried this goan curry there, I absolutely fell in love. And I enjoyed a lot of other goan delicacies as well. The seafood is to die for. And today I’m going to try to make the curry myself. Wish me luck!

Very well explained, a lot of effort has been taken to understand the traditional curry. I had not heard of Triphal in fish curry, will definitely try your dish. Mangloreans use tamarind and small piece onion while grinding the masala, Kokomo is not used. Ginger is not ground with masala but slivers of ginger added while boiling masala. Slight variation and flavorful. Thank you so much for every detail. Clear instructions

Awesome perfect, I am preparing fish curry like this only. Sometime I roast whole masala in one teaspoon of coconut oil. O bhi taste may achha lagta hai. Fish fry ki bhi recipe share kare. 😊 Waiting for fish fry hotel style.

We eat fish curry with rice bhakhari just delicious,my mother in law make it within 5 minutes,we don't use onion in it but only use tomato and garlic and kokam.

Humaan is made with or without onion but no garlic. It depends on the fish that is used for making Curry. Macarels, sardin are used to make Ambat thic humaan so that's without onion. But Pomfret,white fish, kingfish, etc used to make humaan with or without onion. This video was amazing. This recipe is ambatthic.

hi schef im from goa too loved the way u made it ( except for some changes ) , but thats ok ..it looks delicious n it tempted me to order fish n i made curry of it .. just GOAN things .. i would also request you to make more dishes like Gotache( small mango ) sasaav , chicken cafrreal , ambot thik etc etc.. definately u will love it

It's good combination ,one of goan curry style.its really perfect chef. Better small fishes as compare to king fish. 90%goan use cocam. 100% tirfal 👍

Yes, there are few variations of all og the goan food, depending on who's making it but this is a very good attempt and the ukde tandul/red rice was an awesome pairing.
