The spider is called a marbled orbweaver - also known as a pumpkin spider This spider is a female. The male looks much different (and scarier) and is usually smaller These spiders are not harmful to humans and should be left alone as they are great pest controllers and eat mosquitoes! They're also nocturnal, so this one was probably just sleeping. You're lucky to have spotted it. Thanks for sharing!

I find the top of waterfalls, where the source falls over the edge, to be far more fascinating than looking at them from the bottom. Thanks for climbing up to the top.

I'm not an expert but that orange stuff looks like iron bacteria seeping out of the rock. Basically, where there are high concentrations of iron and water, bacteria can eat the iron and the "sludge" is orangish and oozes like that. Shouldn't be dangerous but it can look kind of gross. I'm no expert but from observation and things I've heard other people say about iron bacteria, that's what it looks like to me.

You are to brave sometimes, but the views you show us are amazing. I wonder what towns in PA you were near? That spider was creepy looking, never saw one like that. Loved the water fall.

Looks a lot like Starved Rock State Park here in Northern Illinois. But ours are all sandstone cliffs and canyons, not limestone or granite. Very dangerous to climb.
