In 1974 the colourful old Halifax Corporation buses were finally replaced by the comparatively drab green of the new 'Metro' fleet. The old 'corpy' buses had been long known for their highly distinctive orange and green paint job, the only other livery of this kind being found on Glasgows' buses, perhaps not a coincidence considering that Geoff Hilditch, the long time manager of the Halifax buses, had come to them from Glasgow. When they finally left the steep and winding Pennine roads of the Halifax area it was a sad day. So sad in fact, that I wrote this song, which despite poetic license expresses how ordinary folk felt about the change!
